7¶ And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. 8Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.7.8 before me: Heb. with me 9And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Dezvăluirea conspirației
1Astfel, împăratul și Haman au venit să petreacă împreună cu împărăteasa Estera.
2În timp ce beau vin, împăratul a întrebat‑o pe Estera și în cea de‑a doua zi:
– Care‑ți este dorința, împărăteasă Estera? Îți va fi împlinită! Oricare îți este cererea, chiar și jumătate din împărăție de ar fi, ți se va face după voie!
3Împărăteasa Estera a răspuns și a zis:
– Dacă am găsit bunăvoință înaintea3 Lit.: în ochii. ta, împărate, și dacă împăratul crede că este bine, cruță‑mi viața! Aceasta este dorința mea. De asemenea, cruță‑mi și poporul, 4căci atât eu, cât și poporul meu am fost vânduți, ca să fim nimiciți, uciși și stârpiți. Dacă am fi fost vânduți ca robi și ca roabe, aș fi tăcut, căci un astfel de necaz nu ar fi meritat atenția împăratului.4 Sau: tăcut, dar vrăjmașul n‑ar putea să înlocuiască pierderea făcută împăratului.
5Atunci împăratul Ahașveroș a întrebat‑o pe împărăteasa Estera:
– Cine și unde este acela căruia i‑a îndrăznit inima să facă așa ceva?
6Estera a zis:
– Asupritorul și dușmanul este Haman, răul acesta.
Atunci Haman a rămas îngrozit în fața împăratului și a împărătesei. 7Plin de mânie, împăratul și‑a lăsat paharul de vin și s‑a dus în grădina palatului. Haman însă a rămas să mijlocească pentru viața sa înaintea împărătesei Estera, căci văzuse că pierzarea lui fusese hotărâtă de către împărat. 8Când s‑a întors împăratul din grădina palatului în sala ospățului vinului, a văzut că Haman se aruncase pe patul pe care ședea Estera.
Împăratul a zis atunci:
– Cum?! Vrei s‑o mai și constrângi pe împărăteasă chiar în palat, de față cu mine?
De îndată ce au ieșit aceste cuvinte din gura împăratului, i‑au și acoperit fața lui Haman.
9Harbona, unul dintre eunucii care îi slujeau împăratului, a zis:
– Mai mult, iată și spânzurătoarea înaltă de cincizeci de coți9 Aproximativ 25 m., pe care a făcut‑o Haman pentru Mardoheu, cel ce a vorbit spre binele împăratului, se află în curtea casei lui Haman.
Împăratul a zis:
– Spânzurați‑l pe ea!
10Ei l‑au spânzurat pe Haman pe spânzurătoarea ridicată chiar de el pentru Mardoheu, iar mânia împăratului s‑a potolit.
