1At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release. 2And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD’s release.15.2 creditor: Heb. master of the lending of his hand 3Of a foreigner thou mayest exact it again: but that which is thine with thy brother thine hand shall release; 4Save when there shall be no poor among you; for the LORD shall greatly bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it:15.4 Save…: or, To the end that there be no poor among you 5Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day. 6For the LORD thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow; and thou shalt reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee.
7¶ If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: 8But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. 9Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.15.9 thought: Heb. word15.9 wicked: Heb. Belial 10Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto. 11For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
12¶ And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee. 13And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty: 14Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him. 15And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day. 16And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee; 17Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise. 18It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.
19¶ All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep. 20Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household. 21And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God. 22Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart. 23Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
El año del perdón de las deudas
1»Cada siete años perdonarás toda clase de deudas. 2Lo harás de la siguiente manera: Cada acreedor le perdonará a su prójimo el préstamo que le haya hecho. Ya no le exigirá a su prójimo o hermano que le pague la deuda, porque se habrá proclamado el año del perdón de las deudas en honor del Señor. 3Podrás exigirle el pago de sus deudas al forastero, pero a tu hermano le perdonarás cualquier deuda que tenga contigo. 4Entre vosotros no deberá haber pobres, porque el Señor tu Dios te colmará de bendiciones en la tierra que él mismo te da para que la poseas como herencia. 5Y así será, siempre y cuando obedezcas al Señor tu Dios y cumplas fielmente todos estos mandamientos que hoy te ordeno. 6El Señor tu Dios te bendecirá, como ha prometido, y tú podrás darles prestado a muchas naciones, pero no tendrás que pedir prestado de ninguna. Dominarás a muchas naciones, pero ninguna te dominará a ti.
7»Cuando en alguna de las ciudades de la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da veas a un hermano hebreo pobre, no endurezcas tu corazón ni le cierres tu mano. 8Antes bien, tiéndele la mano y préstale generosamente lo que necesite. 9No des cabida en tu corazón a la perversa idea de que, por acercarse el año séptimo, año del perdón de las deudas, puedes hacerle mala cara a tu hermano hebreo necesitado y no darle nada. De lo contrario, él podrá apelar al Señor contra ti, y tú resultarás convicto de pecado. 10No seas mezquino, sino generoso, y así el Señor tu Dios bendecirá todos tus trabajos y todo lo que emprendas. 11Gente pobre en esta tierra, siempre la habrá; por eso te ordeno que seas generoso con tus hermanos hebreos y con los pobres y necesitados de tu tierra.
Liberación de los esclavos
15:12-18 – Éx 21:2-6
12»Si tu hermano hebreo, hombre o mujer, se vende a ti y te sirve durante seis años, en el séptimo año lo dejarás libre. 13Y, cuando lo liberes, no lo despidas con las manos vacías. 14Abastécelo bien con regalos de tus rebaños, de tus cultivos y de tu lagar. Dale según el Señor tu Dios te haya bendecido. 15Recuerda que fuiste esclavo en Egipto, y que el Señor tu Dios te dio libertad. Por eso te doy ahora esta orden.
16»Pero, si tu esclavo, porque te ama a ti y a tu familia y le va bien contigo, te dice: “No quiero dejarte”, 17entonces tomarás un punzón y, apoyándole la oreja contra una puerta, le perforarás el lóbulo. Así se convertirá en tu esclavo de por vida. Lo mismo harás con la esclava. 18No te pese dejar en libertad a tu esclavo, porque sus servicios durante esos seis años te costaron apenas la mitad de lo que le habrías pagado a un jornalero. Así el Señor tu Dios te bendecirá en todo lo que hagas.
Los animales primogénitos
19»Apartarás para el Señor tu Dios todo primogénito macho de tus manadas y rebaños. No pondrás a trabajar al primogénito de tus bueyes, ni esquilarás al primogénito de tus ovejas. 20Cada año, tú y tu familia los comeréis en la presencia del Señor tu Dios, en el lugar que él habrá de elegir. 21Si alguno de esos animales está cojo o ciego, o tiene algún otro defecto grave, no se lo presentarás en sacrificio al Señor tu Dios. 22En tal caso, podrás comerlo en tu propia ciudad, como si fuera una gacela o un ciervo, estés o no ritualmente puro. 23Pero no comerás la sangre, sino que la derramarás en la tierra, como si fuera agua.
