3¶ And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
4And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments; 5We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and from thy judgments: 6Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land. 7O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against thee.9.7 belongeth…: or, thou hast 8O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. 9To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; 10Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets. 11Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. 12And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem. 13As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.9.13 made…: Heb. intreated we not the face of the, etc 14Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice. 15And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we have done wickedly.9.15 gotten…: Heb. made thee a name
16¶ O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain: because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. 17Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord’s sake. 18O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses, but for thy great mercies.9.18 which…: Heb. whereupon thy name is called9.18 present: Heb. cause to fall 19O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.

دعای دانيال برای قوم خود
1در اولين سال سلطنت داريوش مادی (پسر خشايارشا) كه بر بابلیها حكومت میكرد، 2من، دانيال، از كتاب ارميای نبی فهميدم كه طبق كلامی كه خداوند به ارميا گفته بود اورشليم میبايست هفتاد سال ويران میماند. 3پس دست دعا و التماس به سوی خداوند دراز كردم و روزه گرفتم، پلاس پوشيدم و خاكستر بر سرم ريختم 4و در دعا اعتراف كرده، گفتم:
«ای خداوند، تو خدای بزرگ و مهيب هستی. تو هميشه به وعدههايت وفا میكنی و به كسانی كه تو را دوست دارند و اوامر تو را اطاعت میكنند، رحمت مینمايی. 5ولی ما گناه كرده و مرتكب شرارت شدهايم، ما سركش و خطاكاريم و از دستورات تو سرپيچی نمودهايم. 6به سخنان انبیا كه خدمتگزاران تو بودند و پيام تو را به پادشاهان و بزرگان و اجداد و افراد قوم ما رساندند، گوش ندادهايم.
7«ای خداوند، عدالت از آن توست و شرمندگی از آن ما، ما كه از اهالی يهودا و اورشليم و تمام اسرائيل هستيم و به سبب خيانتی كه به تو كردهايم، در سرزمينهای دور و نزديک پراكنده شدهايم. 8آری، ای خداوند، ما و پادشاهان و بزرگان و اجداد ما رسوا شدهايم زيرا به تو گناه كردهايم. 9اما تو بخشنده و مهربان هستی و كسانی را كه به تو گناه كردهاند میبخشی. 10ای خداوند، ای خدای ما، ما از تو سرپيچی كردهايم و قوانين تو را كه بوسيلهٔ انبيايت به ما دادهای، زير پا گذاشتهايم. 11تمام بنیاسرائيل از احكام تو سرپيچی كرده، از تو برگشتهاند و به صدايت گوش ندادهاند. بلی، همهٔ ما به تو گناه كردهايم و به همين سبب لعنتهایی كه در كتاب تورات خدمتگزارت موسی نوشته شده، بر سر ما آمده است. 12هر چه درباره ما و رهبرانمان گفته بودی به وقوع پيوسته است. آن بلای عظيمی كه در اورشليم بر سر ما آمد در هيچ جای دنيا ديده نشده است. 13اين بلا طبق آنچه در تورات موسی نوشته شده بر سر ما آمد، ولی با وجود اين باز نخواستيم از گناهانمان دست بكشيم و آنچه را درست است به جا آوريم تا تو از ما راضی شوی. 14بنابراين، تو كه مراقب كارهای ما بودی ما را تنبيه كردی زيرا تو ای خداوند، خدای ما، هميشه عادلانه عمل میكنی؛ با اين وجود ما به تو گوش فرا نداديم.
15«ای خداوند، خدای ما، تو با قدرتت قوم خود را از مصر بيرون آوردی، و نام تو در ميان قومها معروف شد چنانكه امروز میبينيم. هر چند ما گناه كردهايم و پر از شرارت هستيم، 16ولی ای خداوند، التماس میكنم به خاطر امانتت، خشم و غضبت را از شهر مقدست اورشليم برگردانی، زيرا قوم تو و شهر تو به سبب گناهان ما و شرارت اجداد ما مورد تمسخر همسايگان واقع گرديدهاند.
17«ای خدای ما، دعای خدمتگزار خود را بشنو! به التماس من توجه فرما! به خاطر خداونديت بر خانهٔ مقدست كه ويران شده نظر لطف بينداز! 18ای خدای من، گوش بده و دعای ما را بشنو. چشمانت را باز كن و خرابی شهری را كه نام تو بر آن است، ببين. ما به سبب شايستگی خود از تو درخواست كمک نمیكنيم، بلكه به خاطر رحمت عظيم تو!
19«ای خداوند، دعای ما را بشنو و گناهان ما را ببخش. ای خداوند، به درخواست ما گوش بده و عمل نما و به خاطر خودت، ای خدای من، تأخير مكن، زيرا نام تو بر اين قوم و بر اين شهر میباشد.»
هفتاد «هفته»
20زمانی كه مشغول دعا بودم و به گناهان خود و گناهان قوم خود اسرائيل اعتراف میكردم و از خداوند، خدايم برای شهر مقدسش اورشليم التماس مینمودم، 21جبرائيل كه او را در خواب قبلی ديده بودم، با سرعت پرواز كرد و هنگام قربانی عصر نزد من رسيد 22و به من گفت: «دانيال، من آمدهام به تو فهم ببخشم تا بتوانی اين اسرار را بفهمی. 23همان لحظه كه مشغول دعا شدی، جواب دعای تو داده شد و من آمدهام تو را از آن آگاه سازم، زيرا خدا تو را بسيار دوست دارد. پس، حال، دقت كن تا آنچه را كه دربارهٔ خوابت میگويم، بفهمی.
24«به امر خدا برای قوم تو و شهر مقدس تو هفتاد ”هفته“9:24 در اينجا و نيز آيات بعدی «هفته» معادل هفت سال میشد. طول خواهد كشيد تا طبق پيشگويی انبیا فساد و شرارت از بين برود، كفاره گناهان داده شود، عدالت جاودانی برقرار گردد و قدسالاقداس دوباره تقديس شود. 25بدان و آگاه باش كه از زمان صدور فرمان بازسازی اورشليم تا ظهور رهبر برگزيدهٔ خدا، هفت ”هفته“ و شصت و دو ”هفته“ طول خواهد كشيد و با وجود اوضاع بحرانی، اورشليم با كوچهها و حصارهايش بازسازی خواهد شد.
26«پس از آن دورهٔ شصت و دو ”هفته“، آن رهبر برگزيده كشته خواهد شد، ولی نه برای خودش. سپس پادشاهی همراه سپاهيانش به اورشليم و خانهٔ خدا حمله برده، آنها را خراب خواهد كرد. آخر زمان مانند طوفان فرا خواهد رسيد و جنگ و خرابيها را كه مقرر شده، با خود خواهد آورد. 27اين پادشاه با اشخاص زيادی پيمان يک ”هفتهای“ میبندد، ولی وقتی نصف اين مدت گذشته باشد، مانع تقديم قربانیها و هدايا خواهد شد. سپس اين خرابكار، خانهٔ خدا را آلوده خواهد ساخت، ولی سرانجام آنچه برای او مقرر شده بر سرش خواهد آمد.»
