1Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel. 2The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up. 3For thus saith the Lord GOD; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
4¶ For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live: 5But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought. 6Seek the LORD, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el. 7Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth, 8Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name: 9That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.5.9 spoiled: Heb. spoil 10They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly. 11Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.5.11 pleasant…: Heb. vineyards of desire 12For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.5.12 a bribe: or, a ransom 13Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time. 14Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. 15Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
16Therefore the LORD, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing. 17And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the LORD. 18Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. 19As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. 20Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
21¶ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.5.21 in…: or, your holy days 22Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.5.22 peace…: or, thank offerings 23Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols. 24But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.5.24 run: Heb. roll 25Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel? 26But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.5.26 the tabernacle…: or, Siccuth your king 27Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the LORD, whose name is The God of hosts.

1Слушай это слово, о дом Израиля, этот траурный плач, который я поднимаю о тебе:
2– Пала дева Израиль,
не встать ей больше;
брошена в своей же земле,
и некому ее поднять.
3Так говорит Владыка Господь:
– У израильского города,
выступающего на войну с тысячей воинов,
останется только сотня;
у города, выступающего с сотней,
останется лишь десяток.
4Так Господь говорит дому Израиля:
– Взыщите Меня и живите;
5не ищите Вефиля,
не ходите в Гилгал
и не отправляйтесь в Вирсавию.
Ведь Гилгал непременно пойдет в плен5:5 Амос иронически отмечает то, что жители Гилгала, ближайшего города к местности, где израильтяне пересекли реку Иордан при входе в землю Ханаана, отправятся в плен, таким образом покидая Обещанную землю (см. Нав. 4:19-24).,
а Вефиль обратится во зло5:5 Вефиль означает «Дом Бога», но Амос говорит, что он станет «Домом Зла»..
6Взыщите Господа и живите
иначе Он пронесется через дом Иосифа5:6 Дом Иосифа – Северное царство, Израиль, где наиболее влиятельным был род Ефрема, сына Иосифа. как огонь;
огонь будет все пожирать
и в Вефиле некому будет его погасить.
7Вы, превращающие суд в горечь
и швыряющие праведность на землю.
8(Он создал Плеяды и созвездие Орион,
Он обращает глубокую тьму в зарю
и делает день черным, как ночь,
призывает воды морские
и разливает их по лицу земли;
Господь Его имя;
9гибель внезапно наводит Он на твердыню
и разрушает укрепленный город),
10вы ненавидите обличающего в суде5:10 Букв.: «в воротах». В древних ближневосточных городах ворота были центром всей общественной жизни города, в них проходили и судебные разбирательства.
и презираете говорящего истину.
11За то, что вы топчете бедного
и вынуждаете его отдавать вам зерно,
вы выстроите дома из тесаных камней –
но вам в них не жить;
вы насадите пышные виноградники –
но вам не пить их вина.
12Ведь Я знаю, как многочисленны ваши преступления
и как велики ваши грехи.
Вы притесняете праведного, берете взятки
и лишаете бедных справедливости в судах.
13Поэтому благоразумный в такие времена молчит,
ведь эти времена злые.
14Ищите добро, а не зло,
чтобы вам жить.
Тогда Господь, Бог Сил, будет с вами
как вы и говорите.
15Ненавидьте зло, любите добро,
утверждайте в судах правосудие.
Может быть, Господь, Бог Сил,
смилуется над уцелевшими потомками Иосифа.
16Поэтому так говорит Владыка Господь, Бог Сил:
– На всех улицах будет плач
и на каждой площади – вопли.
Земледельцев позовут плакать
и плакальщиков – рыдать.
17Во всех виноградниках будет плач,
потому что Я пройду среди вас, –
говорит Господь.
День Господа
18Горе вам, желающим дня Господа!
Зачем вам этот день Господа?
День тот не светом будет, а тьмой.
19Это будет, как если бы кто, едва убежав от льва,
попался в лапы к медведю,
или как если бы кто, укрывшись в своем доме
и оперевшись рукой о стену,
был ужален змеей.
20Разве не будет день Господа тьмой, а не светом, –
мраком, без проблеска света?
21– Ненавижу, презираю ваши праздники;
собраний ваших не выношу.
22Пусть вы и приносите Мне всесожжения
и хлебные приношения –
Я не приму их.
Пусть вы приносите лучших животных в жертву примирения –
Я их не одобрю.
23Удали от Меня шум песен своих!
Я не стану слушать мелодию твоих арф.
24Но пусть правосудие течет как река,
праведность – как непересыхающий поток!
25Приносили ли вы Мне заклания и жертвы
в течение сорока лет в пустыне, дом Израиля?
26Вы взяли с собой вашего царя,
идола Сиккута, и Кийуна, вашего звездного бога5:26 Или: «взяли собой Сиккута, вашего царя, и Кийуна – ваших идолов, ваших звездных богов»; в одном из древних переводов: «взяли собой святилище Молоха и звезду вашего бога Рефана, их идолов».,
которых вы сделали для себя.
27Поэтому Я пошлю вас в плен дальше Дамаска, –
говорит Господь, Чье имя Бог Сил.
