1Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 2And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, 3Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. 4And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5¶ But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 7Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cæsar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 8And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 9And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
10¶ And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. 13But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people. 14And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still. 15And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16¶ Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. 17Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him. 18Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. 19And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is? 20For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 21(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22¶ Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. 23For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 24God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. 30And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
32¶ And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. 33So Paul departed from among them. 34Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
Sa Tesalonica

Ang Kasulatan mao ang iyang gigamit 3aron pamatud-an kanila nga ang Cristo kinahanglan gayod nga mag-antos ug mabanhaw. Sa ilang kasuko kanila ni Pablo naninggit sila, “Kining mga tawhana nagdalag kasamok bisan asa sila moadto tungod sa ilang mga pagtulon-an. Ug karon ania na sila sa atong siyudad. 7Gipadayon pa sila niining Jason sa iyang balay. Kini silang tanan nagasupak sa kasugoan sa Emperador tungod kay nagaingon sila nga may usa pa ka hari nga ginganlag Jesus.” 8Pagkadungog niadto sa mga tawo ug sa mga pangulo, nagubot sila. 9Sa wala pa nila buhii si Jason ug ang iyang mga kauban, gipapiyansa una nila sila.
Sa Berea
10Nianang pagkagabii gipadala sa mga magtutuo si Pablo ug si Silas didto sa Berea. Pag-abot nila didto miadto sila sa simbahan sa mga Judio. 11Mas bukas ang hunahuna sa mga tawo didto sa Berea kaysa mga tawo didto sa Tesalonica. Gusto gayod nilang maminaw sa mga gipangtudlo nila ni Pablo. Si Pablo didto sa Atenas
16Samtang naghulat si Pablo kang Silas ug kang Timoteo didto sa Atenas, nakita niya nga daghan kaayo ang ilang mga dios-dios didto. Nasubo gayod siya. 17Busa misulod siya sa simbahan sa mga Judio ug nakiglantugi kanila ug sa mga dili Judio nga nagasimba usab sa Dios. Kada adlaw atua siya sa plasa nga nakiglantugi sa mga tawo nga iyang gikahibalag. 18May duha ka grupo sa mga magtutudlo ang nakiglantugi kang Pablo. Ang usa mga Epicureo, ug ang usa mga Estoico. Ang uban kanila miingon, “Nagpataka man lag sulti kining tawhana?” Miingon ang uban, “Morag lahi man nga mga dios ang iyang giwali.” Mao kini ang ilang giingon tungod kay giwali ni Pablo ang mahitungod kang Jesus ug ang pagkabanhaw. 19Busa gidala nila si Pablo sa lugar nga ginganlan ug Areopagus nga tigomanan sa mga pangulo sa lungsod. Miingon sila kaniya, “Gusto namo nga mahibaloan ang bag-ong pagtulon-an nga imong giwali. 20Kay lahi ang imong gitudlo ug bag-o kanamo, busa gusto namong mahibaloan kon unsa kining mga butanga. 21(Mao kini ang ilang gisulti tungod kay ang mga taga-Atenas ug ang uban nga mga taga-laing lugar nga didto na nanimuyo wala nay laing gibuhat gawas sa pagpakiglantugi mahitungod sa bag-o nga mga butang.)”
22Busa mitindog si Pablo atubangan sa mga tawo nga nagtigom didto sa Areopagus ug miingon, “Mga taga-Atenas! Nakita ko nga kamo relihiyoso gayod. 23Kay sa akong paglibot dinhi sa inyong siyudad nakita ko ang inyong mga ginasimba. May nakita pa ako nga altar nga may nahisulat nga nagaingon, ‘Sa Dios nga Wala pa Mailhi.’ Kining Dios nga inyong ginasimba nga wala pa ninyo mailhi mao ang Dios nga ginawali ko kaninyo. 24Mao kini ang Dios nga naghimo sa kalibotan ug sa tanan nga anaa niini. Siya ang Ginoo nga tag-iya sa langit ug sa yuta, busa wala siya magpuyo sa mga templo nga hinimo sa mga tawo. 25Wala usab siya magkinahanglan ug tabang gikan sa mga tawo tungod kay siya mismo ang nagahatag ug kinabuhi kanato, ug sa tanang gikinahanglan nato. 26Gikan sa usa lang ka tawo, gihimo sa Dios ang nagkalain-laing matang sa tawo ug gipapuyo niya sa tanan nga bahin sa kalibotan. Sukad pa sa sinugdan giplano nang daan sa Dios kon asa magpuyo ang mga tawo lakip ang panahon nga sila magkinabuhi dinhi. 27Kining tanan gihimo sa Dios aron kitang mga tawo mangita kaniya, ug mamasin nga makita nato siya. Apan ang tinuod ang Dios dili man layo kanato, 28kay ‘nagakinabuhi ug nagalihok kita tungod sa iyang gahom.’ Sama sa giingon sa uban ninyong mga magbabalak nga, ‘kita tinuod niyang mga anak.’ 29Busa, tungod kay kita mga anak sa Dios, dili kita maghunahuna nga ang Dios sama sa mga dios-dios nga bulawan, o plata, o bato, nga gimugna lamang sa hunahuna ug kamot sa tawo. 30Kaniadto, sa wala pa makaila ang mga tawo sa Dios, wala niya tagda ang ilang mga sala. Apan karon gisugo sa Dios ang tanang mga tawo sa tanang mga dapit nga maghinulsol na ug talikdan ang daotan nilang mga binuhatan. 31Kay may adlaw na nga gipili ang Dios nga hukman niya sa matarong nga paghukom ang tanang mga tawo dinhi sa kalibotan pinaagi sa tawo nga iyang gipili. Gipamatud-an niya kini sa tanan pinaagi sa pagbanhaw niya niining tawhana gikan sa kamatayon.”
32Pagkadungog nila nga si Pablo nagasulti mahitungod sa pagkabanhaw, ang uban kanila nagbugalbugal kaniya. Apan ang uban miingon, “Balik dinhi kay gusto namo nga maminaw pa gayod kanimo mahitungod niining mga butanga.” 33Unya, mibiya si Pablo sa maong tigomanan. 34Ang ubang mga lalaki midapig kaniya ug mituo sila kang Jesus. Usa kanila mao si Dionisio nga miyembro sa Areopagus, ug may babaye usab nga si Damaris, ug may lain pang uban.
