1Hezekiah began to reign when he was five and twenty years old, and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Abijah, the daughter of Zechariah. 2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
3¶ He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them. 4And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them together into the east street, 5And said unto them, Hear me, ye Levites, sanctify now yourselves, and sanctify the house of the LORD God of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the holy place. 6For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.29.6 turned their…: Heb. given the neck 7Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel. 8Wherefore the wrath of the LORD was upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he hath delivered them to trouble, to astonishment, and to hissing, as ye see with your eyes.29.8 trouble: Heb. commotion 9For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. 10Now it is in mine heart to make a covenant with the LORD God of Israel, that his fierce wrath may turn away from us. 11My sons, be not now negligent: for the LORD hath chosen you to stand before him, to serve him, and that ye should minister unto him, and burn incense.29.11 be not…: or, be not now deceived29.11 burn…: or, offer sacrifice
12¶ Then the Levites arose, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites: and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehalelel: and of the Gershonites; Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah: 13And of the sons of Elizaphan; Shimri, and Jeiel: and of the sons of Asaph; Zechariah, and Mattaniah: 14And of the sons of Heman; Jehiel, and Shimei: and of the sons of Jeduthun; Shemaiah, and Uzziel. 15And they gathered their brethren, and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king, by the words of the LORD, to cleanse the house of the LORD.29.15 by the words…: or, in the business of the LORD 16And the priests went into the inner part of the house of the LORD, to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD into the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it, to carry it out abroad into the brook Kidron. 17Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month came they to the porch of the LORD: so they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and in the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end. 18Then they went in to Hezekiah the king, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt offering, with all the vessels thereof, and the shewbread table, with all the vessels thereof. 19Moreover all the vessels, which king Ahaz in his reign did cast away in his transgression, have we prepared and sanctified, and, behold, they are before the altar of the LORD.
20¶ Then Hezekiah the king rose early, and gathered the rulers of the city, and went up to the house of the LORD. 21And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he goats, for a sin offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD. 22So they killed the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar: likewise, when they had killed the rams, they sprinkled the blood upon the altar: they killed also the lambs, and they sprinkled the blood upon the altar. 23And they brought forth the he goats for the sin offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them:29.23 forth: Heb. near 24And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded that the burnt offering and the sin offering should be made for all Israel. 25And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet: for so was the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.29.25 commandment of the LORD: Heb. commandment by the hand of the LORD29.25 by: Heb. by the hand of 26And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. 27And Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering upon the altar. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshipped. 31Then Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated yourselves unto the LORD, come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank offerings; and as many as were of a free heart burnt offerings.29.31 consecrated…: or, filled your hand 32And the number of the burnt offerings, which the congregation brought, was threescore and ten bullocks, an hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD. 33And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep. 34But the priests were too few, so that they could not flay all the burnt offerings: wherefore their brethren the Levites did help them, till the work was ended, and until the other priests had sanctified themselves: for the Levites were more upright in heart to sanctify themselves than the priests.29.34 did help…: Heb. strengthened them 35And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order. 36And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God had prepared the people: for the thing was done suddenly.

6우리 조상들은 우리 하나님 여호와께서 보시기에 악을 행하고 그분을 저버렸으며 여호와의 성전을 등지고 말았습니다.
7또 그들은 성전 문을 닫고 등불을 끄고 성소에서 분향하지 않았으며 이스라엘의 하나님께 불로 태워 바치는 번제도 드리지 않았습니다.
8그러므로 여호와께서는 유다와 예루살렘에 분노하셔서 우리를 두려움과 놀라움과 조소의 대상이 되게 하셨습니다. 이것은 오늘날 여러분도 다 알고 있는 사실입니다.
9그래서 우리 조상들은 전쟁에서 죽음을 당했고 우리의 자녀들과 아내들은 포로로 잡혀갔습니다.

12그때 왕의 말을 듣고 즉각 행동 개시에 나섰던 레위 사람들은 다음과 같다: 고핫 집안에서 아마새의 아들 마핫과 아사랴의 아들 요엘, 므라리 집안에서 압디의 아들 기스와 여할렐렐의 아들 아사랴, 게르손 집안에서 심마의 아들 요아와 요아의 아들 에덴,
13엘리사반의 집안에서 시므리와 여우엘, 아삽의 집안에서 스가랴와 맛다냐,
14헤만의 집안에서 29:14 또는 ‘여히엘’여후엘과 시므이, 여두둔의 집안에서 스마야와 웃시엘이었다.
15이들은 그 동료 제사장들을 불러 모아 자신들을 성결하게 하고 왕이 명령한 대로 여호와의 말씀에 따라 성전을 정결하게 하기 시작하였다.
16제사장들이 성전 안으로 들어가 그 곳을 깨끗이 하고 더러운 것을 모조리 성전 뜰로 끌어내면 레위 사람들은 그 모든 것을 성 밖의 기드론 시내로 가져갔다.
17이와 같이 성전 정결 작업은 월 일에 시작되어 8일 만에 성전 현관까지 마치고 또 8일 동안은 성전 건물을 정결하게 하여 그 달 16일에 그 작업을 완전히 마쳤다.
18그런 다음 그들은 히스기야왕에게 가서 이렇게 보고하였다. “우리는 번제단과 차림상과 거기에 딸린 모든 기구들을 포함하여 성전의 정결 작업을 끝마쳤습니다.
19또 우리는 아하스왕이 성전 문을 폐쇄할 때 내어버린 모든 성전 비품도 다시 찾아 정돈하고 성결하게 하여 그 모든 것을 여호와의 제단 앞에 두었습니다.”
20다음날 아침 일찍 히스기야왕은 성의 지도급 인사들을 모아 그들과 함께 성전으로 갔다.
21그는 나라와 백성과 성소를 위해 죄를 씻는 속죄제물로 수소와 숫양과 어린 양과 숫염소를 각각 7마리씩 끌어와 아론의 자손 제사장들에게 그것을 여호와의 제단에 드리라고 지시하였다.
22그래서 제사장들은 먼저 수소를 잡아 그 피를 단에 뿌리고 그 다음은 숫양을 잡아 그 피를 단에 뿌렸으며 또 어린 양도 잡아 그 피를 단에 뿌렸다.
23마지막으로 제사장들이 숫염소를 왕과 그 지도급 인사들 앞으로 끌어내자 그들이 그 위에 손을 얹었다.
24그런 다음 제사장들은 그 숫염소들을 잡아 그 피를 백성의 죄를 씻는 제물로서 단에 뿌렸다. 이것은 왕이 온 이스라엘을 위해 불로 태워 바치는 번제와 죄를 씻는 속죄제를 드리라고 명령하였기 때문이었다.
25-26왕은 여호와께서 예언자 갓과 나단을 통해 다윗왕에게 명령한 지시에 따라 제금과 비파와 수금과 같은 다윗의 악기를 연주하는 레위 사람들을 성전에 배치하고 제사장들도 나팔을 들고 서게 하였다.
27그러고서 그는 단에 번제를 드리라고 명령하였다. 번제를 드리기 시작하자 나팔과 그 밖의 다른 악기에 맞추어 여호와에 대한 찬송이 울려퍼졌다.
28그러자 거기에 모인 모든 사람들이 여호와께 경배하였으며 번제가 다 끝날 때까지 노래하는 자들은 계속 노래하고 나팔과 다른 악기를 연주하는 자들은 계속 연주하였다.
29번제가 끝나자 왕과 그와 함께 있는 모든 사람들이 엎드려 다시 여호와께 경배하였다.
30그러고서 히스기야왕은 레위 사람들에게 다윗과 예언자 아삽의 시로 여호와를 찬양하라고 명령하였다. 그러자 그들은 즐거운 마음으로 찬양하고 엎드려 여호와께 경배하였다.
31히스기야왕이 군중들에게 정결 의식이 끝났으므로 제물과 감사 예물을 여호와께 가져오라고 말하자 그들은 제물과 감사 예물을 가져오기 시작했는데 어떤 사람은 자진해서 번제물까지 가져오기도 하였다.
32-33군중들이 여호와께 드릴 번제물로 가 져온 것은 수소 70마리, 숫양 100마리, 어린 양 200마리이며, 그 밖에 거룩하게 구별하여 드린 예물은 소 600마리, 양 3,000마리였다.
34그러나 제사장들이 너무 부족하여 그 많은 제물을 잡아 다 준비할 수 없으므로 그 일이 끝날 때까지, 그리고 다른 제사장들이 자신을 성결하게 할 때까지 그 형제 레위 사람들이 제사장들을 도왔다. 이것은 레위 사람들이 자신들을 성결하게 하는 데 있어서 제사장들보다 더욱 성실했기 때문이었다.
35그리고 제사장들은 그 많은 번제물 외에도 화목제의 기름과 또 번제와 함께 술을 따르는 전제도 드렸다. 이렇게 하여 성전에서 섬기는 일이 다시 시작되었다.
36히스기야왕과 백성들은 모든 일이 그처럼 신속하게 끝날 수 있도록 하나님께서 도와주신 것을 몹시 기쁘게 생각하였다.
