1Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. 2For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. 3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: 4That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; 5Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: 6That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. 7For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. 8He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. 9But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. 10And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; 11And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.
13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

さらにきよい生活を目指して
1-2愛する皆さん。さらに付け加えます。あなたがたは日々の生活で、どうしたら神をお喜ばせできるかを、すでに知っているはずです。そのために、主イエスの教えを学んだのですから。そこでお願いします。というより、これは主イエスの命令と思ってほしいのですが、どうか、その目標に向かってさらに熱心に励んでください。 3-4神が望んでおられることは、あなたがたがきよくなることです。ですから、あらゆる不品行の罪を避け、きよらかな品位ある結婚生活を送ってほしいのです。 5神を知らない異教徒のように、情欲におぼれてはいけません。 6また、他人の妻を奪って、その人を裏切るようなことをしてはいけません。前もってきびしく警告しておいたように、主はこれらについて厳罰を下されるからです。 7私たちが神に召されたのは、汚れた思いや情欲のとりこになったりするためではなく、きよく清潔な生活を送るためです。 8もし、これらの戒めに従うことを拒むなら、人にではなく、聖霊を与えてくださった神にそむくことになるのです。
9また、クリスチャン同士の純粋な兄弟愛については、何も言う必要がないと確信しています。なぜなら、神ご自身があなたがたに、互いに愛し合うことを教えてくださったからです。 10あなたがたの愛は、国中のすべてのクリスチャンをおおうほど強いものだと聞いています。そうであればこそ、心からお願いしたいのです。ますます兄弟愛を深めなさい。 11そして、以前にも教えたように、静かな生活を送り、仕事に身を入れ、喜んで働きなさい。 12そうすれば、クリスチャンでない人たちからも信用され、尊敬されることでしょう。また、他の人に負担をかけなくてすむでしょう。
クリスチャンが死んだら？
13それから、皆さん。クリスチャンが死んだらどうなるか、よく知っておいてほしいのです。悲しみのあまり取り乱して、何の希望もない人たちと同じようにならないためです。 14私たちは、イエスが死んで復活されたことを確かなことと信じています。ですから、イエスが帰って来られる時、すでに死んで世を去ったすべてのクリスチャンを、神が共に連れて来てくださると信じてよいのです。 15私は主から直接聞いたとおりを伝えるのですが、主が再び来られる時、私たちがまだ生きていたとしても、すでに墓の中にいる人たちをさしおいて主にお会いすることは、断じてありません。 16主は、大号令と、天使の長の声と、神の召集ラッパの響きと共に天から下って来られます。その時、まず最初に復活して主にお会いできるのは、すでにこの世を去っているクリスチャンです。 17それから、なお生きて地上に残っている私たちが、いっしょに雲に包まれて引き上げられ、空中で主とお会いするのです。そして、いつまでも主と共に過ごすことになります。 18ですから、このことをわきまえて、互いに慰め合い、励まし合いなさい。
