1And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon? 2Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph. 3And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. 4David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.
5¶ And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.26.5 trench: or, midst of his carriages
6Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee. 7So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him. 8Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.26.8 delivered: Heb. shut up 9And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD’s anointed, and be guiltless? 10David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish. 11The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’s anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go. 12So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul’s bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.
13¶ Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them: 14And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king? 15And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord. 16This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.26.16 worthy to die: Heb. the sons of death 17And Saul knew David’s voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king. 18And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand? 19Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.26.19 accept: Heb. smell26.19 abiding: Heb. cleaving 20Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
21¶ Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly. 22And David answered and said, Behold the king’s spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it. 23The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD’s anointed. 24And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation. 25Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

1Usa niana ka adlaw, may mga taga-Zif nga miadto kang Saul sa Gibea ug miingon, “Si David nagatago sa bungtod sa Hakila, nga atbang sa Jeshimon.” 2Busa miadto si Saul sa kamingawan sa Zif aron sa pagpangita kang David. Giuban niya ang iyang 3,000 ka mga tawo nga iyang gipili gikan sa Israel. 3Nagkampo sila sa daplin sa dalan sa bungtod sa Hakila, nga atbang sa Jeshimon. Apan nagpabilin si David didto sa kamingawan. Sa dihang nabalitaan ni David nga gisundan siya didto ni Saul, 4nagpadala siyag mga tigpaniid, ug nahibaloan niya nga miabot gayod si Saul.
5Unya miadto si David sa dapit nga gikampohan ni Saul. Nakita niya ang dapit nga gihigdaan ni Saul ug ni Abner nga anak ni Ner, nga komander sa mga sundalo. Natulog si Saul nga gilibotan sa mga sundalo. 6Nangutana si David kang Ahimelec nga Hitihanon ug kang Abishai nga anak ni Zeruya ug igsoon ni Joab, “Kinsa ba kaninyo ang mouban kanako sa pagsulod sa kampo ni Saul?” Mitubag si Abishai, “Ako ang mouban.” 7Busa misulod nianang gabhiona si David ug si Abishai sa kampo ni Saul, ug nakita nila si Saul nga natulog, nga ang iyang bangkaw giugbok sa yuta duol sa iyang ulohan. Si Abner ug ang mga sundalo natulog usab libot kaniya. 8Miingon si Abishai kang David, “Karong adlawa gitugyan na sa Dios kanimo ang imong kaaway. Karon tugoti ako sa pagpatay kaniya pinaagi sa bangkaw. Ipapilit ko siya sa yuta sa usa lang ka pagduslak.” 9Apan miingon si David kang Abishai, “Ayaw siyag patya! Kay silotan gayod sa Ginoo ang mopatay sa iyang pinili nga hari. 10Ginasiguro ko gayod kanimo, sa presensya sa buhi nga Ginoo, nga ang Ginoo mismo ang mopatay kaniya, o mamatay siya sa natural nga kamatayon o sa gira. 11Apan dili motugot ang Ginoo nga ako ang mopatay sa iyang pinili nga hari. Kuhaon lang nato ang bangkaw ug ang sudlanan sa tubig nga anaa sa iyang ulohan, ug unya mamiya kita.” 12Busa gikuha ni David ang bangkaw ug ang sudlanan sa tubig sa may ulohan ni Saul, ug milakaw sila. Wala gayoy nakakita o nakahibalo sa nahitabo; wala gayoy nakamata kanila tungod kay gipahinanok sila pag-ayo sa Ginoo.
13Unya mitabok sila si David sa pikas nga bahin sa kapatagan ug mitindog ibabaw sa bungtod nga halayo ug diotay sa kampo nila ni Saul. 14Misinggit si David ngadto sa mga sundalo ug kang Abner nga anak ni Ner, “Abner, madungog mo ba ako?” Mitubag si Abner, “Kinsa ka? Unsay imong tuyo sa hari?” 15Mitubag si David, “Dili ba ikaw man ang inilang maisog nga sundalo sa Israel? Nganong wala man nimo bantayi ang hari nga imong agalon? May mianha diha aron unta sa pagpatay kaniya! 16Dili maayo kining imong gibuhat. Ipanumpa ko sa buhi nga Dios nga angay kang mamatay ug ang imong mga tawo, kay wala ninyo bantayi ang inyong agalon, ang pinili nga hari sa Ginoo. Tan-awa kon anaa pa ba ang bangkaw sa hari ug ang sudlanan sa tubig diha sa iyang ulohan.” 17-18Nakaila si Saul sa tingog ni David, busa miingon siya, “David, anak, ikaw ba kana?” Mitubag si David, “Oo ako kini, Mahal nga Hari. Nganong gigukod mo ako nga imong alagad? Unsay akong sala? 19Mahal nga Hari, pamatia ang akong isulti. Kon ang Ginoo mao ang nagtulod kanimo sa pagpatay kanako, hinaut kaloy-an niya ako pinaagi sa pagdawat sa akong halad. Apan kon kini iya lang sa tawo, hinaut nga panghimaraoton sila sa Ginoo. Kay gihinginlan nila ako gikan sa yuta sa Ginoo ug giingnan nga moalagad sa ubang mga dios. 20Ayaw itugot nga mamatay ako sa yuta sa mga langyaw, nga halayo sa Ginoo. Nganong ikaw nga hari sa Israel nangita man gayod kanako nga sama man lang ako sa pulgas? Nganong gigukod mo ako sama sa langgam sa bukid?”
21Miingon si Saul, “Nakasala ako. Balik kanako David, anak ko, ug dili ko na ikaw hilabtan pag-usab kay wala nimo ako patya karong adlawa. Mora akog buang sa akong gihimo, ug nasayop gayod ako.” 22Mitubag si David, “Ania ang imong bangkaw, ipakuha kini dinhi sa usa sa imong tawo. 23Panalanginan ako sa Ginoo sa akong gihimo karong adlawa, kay gantihan niya ang matag tawo nga matarong ug matinud-anon. Gitugyan ka sa Ginoo kanako karong adlawa, apan wala ko ikaw patya kay ikaw ang pinili nga hari sa Ginoo. 24Maingon nga gihatagan ko ug bili ang imong kinabuhi karong adlawa, hinaut nga hatagan usab sa Ginoo ug bili ang akong kinabuhi ug luwason niya ako gikan sa tanang kalisod.” 25Unya miingon si Saul kang David, “Hinaut nga panalanginan ka sa Dios, anak ko. Makahimo ka pa ug dagkong mga butang, ug magmadaogon ka gayod.” Unya mibiya si David, ug si Saul mipauli.
