1Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead. 2And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him. 3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?19.3 Thinkest…: Heb. In thine eyes doth David, etc 4Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away. 5Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
6¶ And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syria-maachah, and out of Zobah.19.6 odious: Heb. to stink 7So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle. 8And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men. 9And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field. 10Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.19.10 the battle…: Heb. the face of the battle was19.10 choice: or, young men 11And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.19.11 Abishai: Heb. Abshai 12And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee. 13Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight. 14So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him. 15And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
16¶ And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.19.16 river: that is, Euphrates19.16 Shophach: also called, Shobach 17And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him. 18But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host. 19And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
Ginpierdi ni David ang mga Ammonhon kag mga Arameanhon
(2 Sam. 10:1-19)
1Sang ulihi, napatay si Nahash nga hari sang mga Ammonhon. Kag ang iya anak nga si Hanun amo ang nagbulos sa iya bilang hari. 2Nagsiling si David, “Pakitaan ko sang kaayo si Hanun tungod nga maayo ang iya amay sa akon.” Gani nagpadala si David sang mga opisyal sa pagpakita sang iya pag-unong sa kalisod ni Hanun tungod sa pagkapatay sang iya amay.
Pero sang pag-abot sang mga opisyal ni David kay Hanun didto sa duta sang mga Ammonhon, 3nagsiling ang mga opisyal sang mga Ammonhon kay Hanun, “Nagahunahuna ka bala nga ginadumdom ni David ang imo amay paagi sa pagpadala sang mga tawo sa pag-unong sa imo kalisod? Indi ayhan nagkadto sila diri sa pagpang-espiya sa aton duta kag laglagon ini?”
4Gani ginpadakop ni Hanun ang mga tinawo ni David kag ginpabalbasan ang ila mga burangos. Ginpagutrab man niya ang ila mga bayo halin sa balikawang paidalom kag dayon ginpapauli sila. 5Nahuya gid sila nga magpauli. Sang mabalitaan ni David ang natabo sa iya mga tinawo, nagpadala siya sang mga mensahero sa paghambal sa iya mga tinawo nga magpabilin lang anay sila sa Jerico hasta nga magtubo ang ila mga burangos, kag dayon makapauli na sila.
6Nareyalisar sang mga Ammonhon nga ginpaakig gid nila si David. Gani nagbayad sila sing mga 35 ka tonelada nga pilak agod arkilahan ang karwahe kag mga manugkarwahe sang Aram Naharaim,19:6 Aram Naharaim: isa ka lugar sa Mesopotamia. Aram Maaca, kag Zoba. 7Ang kadamuon sang mga karwahe kag mga manugkarwahe 32,000. Nag-ugyon man sa ila ang hari sang Maaca kag ang iya mga soldado. Nagkampo ini nga mga grupo malapit sa Medeba. Nagguwa man ang mga Ammonhon sa ila mga banwa kag nagpreparar sa pagpakig-away. 8Pagkabati sini ni David, ginpadala niya si Joab kag ang tanan nga maisog nga mga soldado sa pagpakig-away. 9Nagplastar ang mga Ammonhon sa pagpakig-away sa may puwertahan sang ila banwa, samtang ang mga hari nga nag-ugyon sa ila nagplastar sa kapatagan.
10Sang makita ni Joab nga may mga kaaway sa iya atubang kag likod, nagpili siya sang pinakamaayo nga mga soldado sang Israel, kag ginpanguluhan niya sila sa pagpakig-away sa mga Arameanhon. 11Ang nabilin nga mga soldado ginpapanguluhan niya kay Abishai nga iya utod sa pagpakig-away sa mga Ammonhon. 12Nagsiling si Joab kay Abishai, “Kon makita mo nga daw mapierdi na kami sang mga Arameanhon, buligan ninyo kami, kag kon kamo man ang daw mapierdi sang mga Ammonhon buligan namon kamo. 13Magpakabaskog kita! Magpakig-away kita nga may kaisog para sa aton katawhan kag sa mga banwa sang aton Dios. Himuon sang Ginoo kon ano ang maayo para sa iya.”
14Dayon nagsalakay si Joab upod sang iya mga tinawo, kag nagpalalagyo ang mga Arameanhon sa ila. 15Pagkakita sang mga Ammonhon nga nagapalalagyo ang mga Arameanhon, nagpalagyo man sila kay Abishai nga utod ni Joab, kag nagsulod sa ila banwa. Gani nagpauli sila ni Joab sa Jerusalem.
16Sang mareyalisar sang mga Arameanhon nga napierdi sila sang mga Israelinhon, nagpadala sila sang mga mensahero sa mga kaupod nila nga mga Arameanhon didto sa pihak sang Suba sang Eufrates agod pangabayon sila nga magbulig sa ila. Nag-abot ini nga grupo nga ginapanguluhan ni Shofac19:16 Shofac: ukon, Shobac. nga kumander sang mga soldado ni Hadadezer.
17Sang mahibaluan ini ni David, ginpatipon niya ang tanan nga soldado sang Israel sa pagpakig-away. Dayon nagtabok sila sa Suba sang Jordan kag nagplastar nga nagaatubang sa mga Arameanhon, kag dayon nag-inaway sila. 18Pero nagpalalagyo ang mga Arameanhon sa mga Israelinhon. Nakapatay sila ni David sang 7,000 ka manugkarwahe kag 40,000 ka soldado nga nagalakat lang. Napatay man nila si Shofac, ang kumander sang mga soldado. 19Sang makita sang mga sakop ni Hadadezer nga napierdi na sila sang mga Israelinhon, nagpakig-abyan sila kay David kag nagpasakop sa iya. Gani halin sadto indi na magbulig ang mga Arameanhon sa mga Ammonhon.
