1富よりも名誉を大事にしなさい。
金や銀で名声は買えません。
2金持ちも貧しい人も、神の前では同じです。
すべての人を主が造ったからです。
3注意深い人は先まで見通しを立て、
失敗しないように準備します。
考えの足りない者はむやみやたらに進み、
あとで苦しみます。
4謙遜で主を敬う人は、富も名誉も長寿も与えられます。
5神の教えに背く者の道には、
危険な罠が待ち受けています。
自分を大切にする人は、決してそこに近寄りません。
6子どもの時に正しい生き方を教えておけば、
年をとってからも変わりません。
7貧しい人が金持ちに押さえつけられるように、
金を借りる者は貸してくれた人の奴隷になります。
8悪い支配者は必ず災いに会い、権力を失います。
9親切な人は貧しい人に食べ物を分けて喜ばれます。
10人をさげすむ者を追い出せば、
みんなうちとけて、争いも口げんかもなくなります。
11きよい心を愛し、良いことを語る人は、
王のほうから友になってくれます。
12主は正しい人を守り、悪者の計画を葬り去ります。
13怠け者は「仕事になんかとても行けない。
外に出たらライオンに食い殺されるかもしれない」と
言いわけをします。
14売春婦は危険な罠、主にのろわれた者は、
その罠に簡単に引っかかります。
15若者は反抗心でいっぱいですが、
正しく罰すれば素直になります。
16貧しい人からせしめたり、
金持ちにわいろを贈ったりして財産を作っても、
結局は貧しくなります。
知恵のことば（１）
17-19主を信じて任せなさい。
知恵のことばを聞いて忘れずに守りなさい。
そうすれば、自分の益になるばかりでなく、
人にも教えることができるようになります。
20-21私は間違ったことを言ったことはないから、
私の言うことを信じて、そのとおり人にも教えなさい。
22-23貧しい人や病人のものを横取りしてはいけません。
神が見ています。
そんなことをする者は必ず罰せられます。
24-25すぐに腹を立てる愚か者には
近づかないようにしなさい。
安易に近寄ると罠に陥ります。
26-27手もとに余分な金もないのに、
人の保証人になってはいけません。
他人の借金のかたに、
寝具まで
取り上げられてしまいます。
28昔からある境界線を勝手に変えるのは、
どろぼうと同じことです。
29まじめに良い仕事をする人は、必ず成功します。
1A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

Thirty Sayings of the Wise
Saying 1
17Pay attention and turn your ear to the sayings of the wise;
apply your heart to what I teach,
18for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart
and have all of them ready on your lips.
19So that your trust may be in the Lord,
I teach you today, even you.
20Have I not written thirty sayings for you,
sayings of counsel and knowledge,
21teaching you to be honest and to speak the truth,
so that you bring back truthful reports
to those you serve?

22Do not exploit the poor because they are poor
and do not crush the needy in court,
23for the Lord will take up their case
and will exact life for life.

24Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person,
do not associate with one easily angered,
25or you may learn their ways
and get yourself ensnared.

26Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge
or puts up security for debts;
27if you lack the means to pay,
your very bed will be snatched from under you.
