1-2何かをする場合、ただ自分の喜びのためにするのはよくありません。それは悪いことではないかと疑問や不安を持つ人を思いやり、そういう弱さを持つ人々の「重荷」を軽くしてあげなさい。そして、人の益になることをし、その人が主にあって成長できるよう支えましょう。
3キリストも、ご自分を喜ばせようとはなさいませんでした。「彼が来られたのは、実に、敵対する者たちの侮辱を受けて苦しむためであった」と、詩篇の作者が言っているとおりです。 4ずっと昔に書かれたこのことばは、私たちに忍耐を教え、励ますためのものです。また、神が死と罪の力とを打ち破ってくださる時を、私たちが待ち望むためのものです。 5どうか、強い忍耐力と励ましを与える神が、あなたがたが一つ思いとなって暮らしていけるよう、助けてくださいますように。一人一人がキリストの模範にならって互いに接することができますように。 6そうして初めて、私たちはみな、主イエス・キリストの父なる神をほめたたえ、声を合わせて賛美できるのです。
すべての人が神をたたえる
7そういうわけですから、キリストがあなたがたを受け入れてくださったように、あなたがたも互いにあたたかく受け入れ合いなさい。そうすれば、神がほめたたえられるのです。 8イエス・キリストが来られたのは、神がご自分の約束に対して誠実な方であることを示すため、また、ユダヤ人を助けるためであったことを思い出してください。 9それはまた、外国人も救われて、自分たちに対する神のあわれみのゆえに神をほめたたえるためでもあったことを、思い出してください。次のように書かれているとおりです。
「私は外国人の中で、あなたを賛美し、
あなたの御名をほめ歌おう。」（詩篇18・49）
10また、ほかの箇所にはこうあります。
「外国人よ。主の民であるユダヤ人と共に喜べ。」（申命32・43）
11「外国人よ。主をほめたたえよ。
すべての人よ。主をほめたたえよ。」（詩篇117・1）
12また、預言者イザヤはこう言っています。
「エッサイの家系に一人の世継ぎが生まれる。
その方は外国人を治める王となる。
彼らは、ただこの方だけに望みをかける。」（イザヤ11・10）
13そこで、私はあなたがた外国人のために祈ります。どうか、希望を与えてくださる神があなたがたを幸せにし、平安で満たしてくださいますように。どうかあなたがたを、聖霊の力によって希望にあふれさせてくださいますように。
14私の兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが知恵に満ち、善意にあふれていること、そして、これらを他の人々に教えることができるほどよくわきまえていることを、私は知っています。 15-16それにもかかわらず、私が所々かなり大胆に強調して書いたのは、あなたがたにそのことを思い起こしてもらいたかったからです。私は神の恵みにより、あなたがた外国人のためにキリスト・イエスに仕える者であって、福音を伝え、かおり高い供え物として、あなたがたを神にささげる務めを果たしているのです。あなたがたは聖霊によって、きよい者、神に喜ばれる者とされています。
17それで、キリスト・イエスが私を用いてなしてくださったことを、誇りに思っています。 18私は、ただ外国人を神に導くために、キリストが私を役立ててくださったということだけを話します。他のことについて、何も言うつもりはありません。私は、ことばと活動、 19および、私を通してなされた奇跡と御霊の力によって、外国人を神に導いてきました。このようにして私は、エルサレムからイルリコに至るまで、キリストの福音をくまなく伝えてきました。 20すでに、だれかほかの人によって伝道がなされている所ではなく、むしろ、キリストの名をまだ一度も聞いたことがない人々の所で、福音を宣べ伝えたいと切に望みました。 21イザヤが、「彼（キリスト）の名を一度も聞いたことのない人々が見て理解するようになる」（イザヤ52・15）と言っているとおりに働いてきたのです。
22このような事情のもとで、私はこれまで、あなたがたの所に行けませんでした。 23しかし、もうこちらでの働きも終わり、長いあいだ待ったかいがあって、とうとうそちらに行けそうです。 24実は今、スペインでの伝道を計画しています。その途中、ローマに立ち寄るつもりです。そして、わずかな間でも、共に心の満たされた時を過ごしてから、あなたがたに送られて、旅を続けたいと願っています。
困った時には助け合う
25しかし、その前に、エルサレムに行かなければなりません。そこにいるユダヤ人のクリスチャンに、献金を届けるためです。 26ご存じのように、マケドニヤとアカヤのクリスチャンが、いま困難に会っているエルサレムのクリスチャンのために、募金することにしたからです。 27彼らは、それを喜んでしてくれました。エルサレムのクリスチャンには大きな借りがあると思っているのです。どうしてかわかりますか。福音がエルサレムの教会から伝えられたからです。彼らはエルサレム教会から、福音というすばらしい霊の贈り物を受けました。そこで、いくらかでも物質的な援助をして恩返しができればと願っているのです。 28それで私は、この献金を渡し終えてから、スペインに行く途中で、あなたがたを訪ねたいと思っています。 29その時にはきっと、主からの大きな祝福を分かち合えるでしょう。

1We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. 3For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.”15:3 Psalm 69:9 4For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
5May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. 8For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews15:8 Greek circumcision on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed 9and, moreover, that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written:
“Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles;
I will sing the praises of your name.”15:9 2 Samuel 22:50; Psalm 18:49
10Again, it says,
“Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people.”15:10 Deut. 32:43
11And again,
“Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles;
let all the peoples extol him.”15:11 Psalm 117:1
12And again, Isaiah says,
“The Root of Jesse will spring up,
one who will arise to rule over the nations;
in him the Gentiles will hope.”15:12 Isaiah 11:10 (see Septuagint)
13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Paul the Minister to the Gentiles
14I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another. 15Yet I have written you quite boldly on some points to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me 16to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
17Therefore I glory in Christ Jesus in my service to God. 18I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done— 19by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ. 20It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. 21Rather, as it is written:
“Those who were not told about him will see,
and those who have not heard will understand.”15:21 Isaiah 52:15 (see Septuagint)
22This is why I have often been hindered from coming to you.
Paul’s Plan to Visit Rome
23But now that there is no more place for me to work in these regions, and since I have been longing for many years to visit you, 24I plan to do so when I go to Spain. I hope to see you while passing through and to have you assist me on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while. 25Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem in the service of the Lord’s people there. 26For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the Lord’s people in Jerusalem. 27They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material blessings. 28So after I have completed this task and have made sure that they have received this contribution, I will go to Spain and visit you on the way. 29I know that when I come to you, I will come in the full measure of the blessing of Christ.
30I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. 31Pray that I may be kept safe from the unbelievers in Judea and that the contribution I take to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the Lord’s people there, 32so that I may come to you with joy, by God’s will, and in your company be refreshed. 33The God of peace be with you all. Amen.
