祈り続けなさい
1ある日、イエスは弟子たちに、いつでも祈り、また答えられるまで祈り続けることを教えようと、一つのたとえを話されました。 2「ある町に、少しも神を恐れず、人を人とも思わない裁判官がいました。 3同じ町に住む一人の未亡人が、たびたびこの裁判官のところへ押しかけ、『訴えられて困っています。どうか私を守ってください』と願い出ました。 4-5裁判官はしばらくの間、相手にしませんでしたが、あまりのしつこさに我慢できなくなり、心の中でこう考えました。『私は神だろうが人間だろうがこわくないが、あの女ときたらうるさくてかなわない。しかたがない。裁判をしてやることにしよう。そうすれば、もうわずらわしい思いをしなくてすむだろう。』」 6主は続けて言われました。「このように、悪徳裁判官でさえ音を上げてしまうのなら、 7まして神は、昼も夜もひたすら訴え続ける信者たちを、必ず正しく取り扱ってくださるはずです。そうは思いませんか。 8神はすぐにも答えてくださるのです。ただ問題は、メシヤのわたしが帰って来る時、いったいどれだけの人が信仰を持って祈り続けているかです。」
9それから、自分を正しい者とし、他人を軽蔑する人たちに、こんな話をなさいました。 10「二人の男が祈るために神殿へ行きました。一人は自尊心が強く、あくまで自分を正しいと主張するパリサイ人、もう一人は、人のお金をだまし取る取税人でした。 11パリサイ人は心の中で祈りました。『神様。ありがとうございます。私はほかの人々、特に、ここにいる取税人のような罪人ではありません。人をだましたこともなければ、姦淫したこともありません。 12一週間に二回は必ず断食し、全収入の十分の一もきちんと献金しています。』 13一方、取税人は遠く離れて立ち、目を伏せ、悲しみのあまり胸をたたきながら、『神様。罪人の私をあわれんでください』と叫びました。 14よく言っておきますが、罪を赦されて帰ったのは、パリサイ人ではなく、この罪人のほうです。高慢な者は卑しい者とされ、謙遜な者には大きな名誉が与えられるのです。」
15ある日のことです。イエスにさわって祝福していただこうと、人々が子どもたちを連れて来ました。ところが弟子たちはそれを見て、じゃまだとしかりました。 16するとイエスは、子どもたちを呼び寄せ、弟子たちに言われました。「いいから、子どもたちを自由に来させなさい。追い返してはいけません。 17神の国は、この子どもたちのように、素直に信じる心を持っている人たちのものなのです。」
天国に入るには
18ある時、一人のユダヤ教の指導者がイエスに尋ねました。「先生。あなたは尊いお方です。そこでお聞きしたいのですが、永遠のいのちを受けるにはどうすればよいのでしょう。」 19「わたしのことを『尊い』と言うのですか。それがどういうことか、わかっていますか。尊い方は、ただ神お一人だけです。 20それはそれとして、質問に答えましょう。モーセの戒めはよく知っていますね。『姦淫してはいけない。殺してはいけない。盗んではいけない。うそをついてはいけない。父と母を敬え』とあります。」 21すると、彼は言いました。「子どものころから、戒めはきちんと守ってきました。」 22「でも、あなたには一つだけ欠けたところがあります。財産を全部売り払って、貧しい人たちに分けてあげなさい。天に宝をたくわえるのです。それから、わたしについて来なさい。」 23このイエスのことばに、その人は肩を落として立ち去りました。たいへんな金持ちだったからです。 24そのうしろ姿を見つめていたイエスは、弟子たちに言われました。「金持ちが神の国に入るのは、なんとむずかしいことでしょう。 25それよりは、らくだが針の穴を通るほうが、よほどやさしいのです。」 26これには弟子たちも驚き、思わずことばを返しました。「そんなにむずかしいのですか。だとしたら、救われる人などいるでしょうか。」 27「人にはできません。だが、神にはできるのです。」 28すかさずペテロが口をはさみました。「私たちは家も捨てて、お従いしました。」 29「そうです。あなたがたのように、神の国のために、家、妻、兄弟、両親、子どもを捨てた者はだれでも、 30この世ではその何倍もの報いを受け、やがて来る世では、永遠のいのちまでいただけるのです。」
31ここでイエスは、十二人の弟子たちをそばに呼び寄せ、特に言って聞かせました。「あなたがたも知っているように、わたしたちはエルサレムへ行くところです。そこで、昔の預言者たちのことばどおりのことが、わたしの身に起こります。 32わたしは外国人の手に渡され、あざけられ、侮辱され、つばをかけられ、 33むち打たれ、ついには殺されますが、三日目に復活するのです。」 34ところが弟子たちには、イエスの言われることが全く理解できず、「先生はきっと、なぞをかけておられるのだろう」としか考えられませんでした。
35ほどなくエリコという町に近づくと、盲人が一人、道ばたに座り込み、通りがかりの人に物ごいをしていました。 36大ぜいの人があわただしく通り過ぎ、あたりの様子がざわついてきたので、いったいどうしたのかと思った盲人は、そばにいた人をつかまえて尋ねました。 37すると、ナザレのイエスがお通りになると言います。 38盲人は、この時とばかり大声で訴えました。「イエス様！ ダビデ王の子よ！ どうぞ、私にあわれみを！」 39イエスの前を進んで来た人たちが黙らせようとしましたが、そうすればするほど、ますます大声で叫び立てます。「ダビデ王の子よ！ あわれみを！」 40その時、イエスは足を止め、「あの人を連れて来なさい」と言われました。 41それから、彼にお尋ねになりました。「わたしにどうしてほしいのですか。」「主よ。見えるようになりたいのです！」 42「さあ、見えるようになりなさい。あなたの信仰があなたを治したのです。」 43その瞬間、彼の目は見えるようになりました。そして、心から神をほめたたえながら、イエスについて行きました。この出来事を見ていた人たちもみな、神を賛美しました。
1And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: 3And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 5Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? 9And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 15And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. 17Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein. 18And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 19And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 20Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. 21And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. 22Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 23And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich. 24And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 25For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved? 27And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God. 28Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee. 29And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake, 30Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
31¶ Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. 32For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: 33And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. 34And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
35¶ And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: 36And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. 37And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. 38And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 39And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 40And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, 41Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. 43And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
