失われたものが見つかる喜び
1イエスの教えを聞きに来る人たちの中には、あくどい取り立てをする取税人や罪人といわれる者たちがかなりいました。 2ユダヤ教の指導者や律法の専門家は、イエスがそういう問題の多い人々とつきあい、時には食事までいっしょにするのを見て、批判しました。
3そこでイエスは、次のようなたとえ話をなさいました。 4「羊を百匹持っているとします。そのうちの一匹が迷い出て、荒野で行方がわからなくなったらどうしますか。ほかの九十九匹は放っておいて、いなくなった一匹が見つかるまで捜し歩くでしょう。 5そして、見つかったら、大喜びで羊を肩にかつぎ上げ、 6家に帰ると、さっそく友達や近所の人たちを呼び集めて、いっしょに喜んでもらうでしょう。 7それと同じことです。迷い出た一人の罪人が神のもとに帰った時は、迷ったことのない九十九人を合わせたよりも大きな喜びが、天にあふれるのです。
8別のたとえで話してみましょう。女が銀貨を十枚持っていて、もし一枚なくしてしまったら、女はランプをつけ、家の中をすみからすみまで掃除して、その一枚を見つけるまで、必死で捜し回るでしょう。 9そして見つけ出したら、友達や近所の人を呼び、いっしょに喜んでもらうでしょう。 10同じように、一人の罪人が罪を悔いて神のもとに帰った時、天使たちはたいへんな喜びにわくのです。」
11イエスはもっとよく説明しようと、また別のたとえも話されました。「ある人に息子が二人いました。 12ある日、弟のほうが出し抜けに、『お父さん。あなたが亡くなってからでなく、今すぐ財産の分け前がほしいんです』と言いだしたのです。それで父親は、二人にそれぞれ財産を分けてやりました。 13もらう物をもらうと、何日もたたないうちに、弟は荷物をまとめ、遠い国に旅立ちました。そこで放蕩に明け暮れ、財産を使い果たしてしまいました。 14一文なしになった時、その国に大ききんが起こり、食べる物にも事欠くようになりました。 15それで彼は、その国のある人のもとで、畑で豚を飼う仕事をもらいました。 16あまりのひもじさに、豚のえさのいなご豆さえ食べたいほどでしたが、だれも食べる物をくれません。 17こんな毎日を送るうち、彼もやっと目が覚めました。『お父さんの家なら雇い人にだって、あり余るほど食べ物があるだろうに。なのに自分は、なんてみじめなんだ。こんな所で飢え死にしかけている。 18そうだ、家に帰ろう。帰って、お父さんに頼もう。「お父さん。すみませんでした。神様にもお父さんにも、罪を犯してしまいました。 19もう息子と呼ばれる資格はありません。どうか、雇い人として使ってください。」』
20決心がつくと、彼は父親のもとに帰って行きました。ところが、家まではまだ遠く離れていたというのに、父親は息子の姿をいち早く見つけたのです。『あれが帰って来た。かわいそうに、あんなみすぼらしいなりで。』こう思うと、じっと待ってなどいられません。走り寄って抱きしめ、口づけしました。 21『お父さん。すみませんでした。ぼくは、神様にもお父さんにも、罪を犯してしまいました。もう息子と呼ばれる資格はありません。』 22ところが父親は、使用人たちにこう言いつけたのです。『さあ、何をぼやぼやしている。一番良い服を出して、この子に着せてやりなさい。宝石のついた指輪も、くつもだ。 23それから肥えた子牛を料理して、盛大な祝宴の用意をしなさい。 24死んだものとあきらめていた息子が生き返り、行方の知れなかった息子が帰って来たのだから。』こうして祝宴が始まりました。
25ところで、兄のほうはどうだったでしょう。彼は、その日も畑で働いていました。家に戻ってみると、何やら楽しげな踊りの音楽が聞こえます。 26いったい何事かと、使用人の一人に尋ねると、 27『弟さんが帰って来られたのです。だんな様は、たいへんなお喜びで、肥えた子牛を料理し、ご無事を祝う宴会を開いておられるのです』というのです。 28事情を聞いて、兄は無性に腹が立ってきました。家に入ろうともしません。父親が出て来てなだめましたが、 29兄は父に食ってかかりました。『私はこれまで、お父さんのために汗水流して働いてきました。お父さんの言いつけに、ただの一度もそむいたことはありません。なのに、友達と宴会を開けと言って、子やぎ一匹くれたことがありますか。 30ところが、遊女におぼれてあなたのお金を使い果たした弟のためには、最上の子牛を料理して、お祭り騒ぎをするのですか。』 31すると、父親は言いました。『いいか、よく聞きなさい。おまえはいつだって、私のそばにいたではないか。私のものは全部おまえのものだ。 32考えてもみなさい。あれはおまえの弟なのだよ。死んだと思ってあきらめていたのが、無事に帰って来たのだ。いなくなっていたのが見つかったのだから、お祝いするのはあたりまえではないか。』」
The Parable of the Lost Sheep
1Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
3Then Jesus told them this parable: 4“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
The Parable of the Lost Coin
8“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins15:8 Greek ten drachmas, each worth about a day’s wages and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
The Parable of the Lost Son
11Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.
13“Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
25“Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28“The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
31“ ‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ ”
