馬の幻と怒りの日の幻
1さらに見ていると、小羊は第一の封印を解いて、巻物を開き始めました。すると四つの生き物の一つが、雷のようにとどろく声で「来なさい」と呼びました。 2目をこらしていると、一頭の白い馬が現れました。馬上の人は弓を持ち、冠をかぶっていました。そして次々と勝利を収めながら、なお勝利を求めて出て行きました。
3それから、小羊は第二の封印を解き、巻物を開きました。すると、第二の生き物が「来なさい」と呼ぶのが聞こえました。 4次に現れたのは赤い馬です。その馬上の者には、長い剣と、平和を奪って地上に混乱を招く権威が与えられました。こうして、戦争と殺し合いが各地で勃発しました。
5小羊が第三の封印を解いた時、第三の生き物が、「来なさい」と呼ぶのを聞きました。すると、黒い馬が現れました。その馬にまたがる者は、秤を手にしていました。 6四つの生き物の間から、声が聞こえました。「小麦一リットルも、大麦三リットルも一デナリ（一日分の賃金）。オリーブ油とぶどう酒を大切にしなさい。」
7第四の封印が解かれた時、第四の生き物が「来なさい」と呼ぶのを聞きました。 8今度は、青ざめた馬が現れました。その馬にまたがる者の名は「死」で、そのあとに、「地獄」という名の人の乗っている馬が続きました。彼らには、戦争とききんと伝染病と獣によって、地上の人々の四分の一を殺す権威が与えられました。
9小羊が第五の封印を解いた時、私は祭壇を見ました。その祭壇の下に、神のことばを伝え、自分たちの証言に忠実であったために殉教した者全員の、たましいが見えました。 10彼らは大声で、主に、こう叫んでいました。「おお、きよく、真実で、絶対者なる主よ。地上の人々のひどい仕打ちを、さばいてはくださらないのですか。いったいいつ、私たちの血の復讐をしてくださるのですか。」 11すると、その一人一人に白い衣が与えられ、こう言い渡されました。「もうしばらく休むがよい。まだ、おまえたちと同じように殉教する者が、イエスに仕える同胞の中から出るからだ。」
12小羊が第六の封印を解くのを見ていると、突然、大地震が起こりました。太陽は黒布でおおわれたように暗くなり、月は血のように赤く変わりました。 13そして、星が地上に落ちたのです。まるで、いちじくの青い実が、大風にばらばらと振り落とされるようでした。 14星をちりばめていた天は、巻物が巻き取られるように消え去り、すべての山や島は、激しい揺れのために、あちこちへその場所を変えました。 15地上の王、指導者、金持ち、将軍、身分の高い人も低い人も、奴隷も自由人も、人々はこぞって、ほら穴や山の岩陰に身を隠し、 16山々に向かって大声で叫びました。「私たちの上に倒れかかれ！ 王座に座っておられる方の顔から、小羊の怒りから、私たちを隠してくれ。 17神と小羊の怒りの日がついに来たのだ。だれがそれに耐えられよう。」
The Seals
1I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
3When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.
5When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds6:6 Or about 1 kilogram of wheat for a day’s wages,6:6 Greek a denarius and six pounds6:6 Or about 3 kilograms of barley for a day’s wages,6:6 Greek a denarius and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
7When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
9When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,6:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 12:10; 19:10. were killed just as they had been.
12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
15Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us6:16 See Hosea 10:8. from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17For the great day of their6:17 Some manuscripts his wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
