イエスの系図
1これは、イエス・キリストの系図です。イエス・キリストはダビデ王の子孫、さらにさかのぼってアブラハムの子孫です。
2アブラハムはイサクの父、イサクはヤコブの父、ヤコブはユダとその兄弟たちの父です。
3ユダはパレスとザラの父〔彼らの母はタマル〕、パレスはエスロンの父、エスロンはアラムの父です。
4アラムはアミナダブの父、アミナダブはナアソンの父、ナアソンはサルモンの父です。
5サルモンはボアズの父〔母はラハブ〕、ボアズはオベデの父〔母はルツ〕、オベデはエッサイの父です。
6エッサイはダビデ王の父、ダビデはソロモンの父〔母はウリヤの妻でした〕です。
7ソロモンはレハブアムの父、レハブアムはアビヤの父、アビヤはアサの父です。
8アサはヨサパテの父、ヨサパテはヨラムの父、ヨラムはウジヤの父です。
9ウジヤはヨタムの父、ヨタムはアハズの父、アハズはヒゼキヤの父です。
10ヒゼキヤはマナセの父、マナセはアモンの父、アモンはヨシヤの父です。
11ヨシヤはエコニヤとその兄弟たちの父です〔彼らは、イスラエルの人たちがバビロンに移住していた時に生まれました〕。
12バビロンに移住してからは、エコニヤはサラテルの父、サラテルはゾロバベルの父です。
13ゾロバベルはアビウデの父、アビウデはエリヤキムの父、エリヤキムはアゾルの父です。
14アゾルはサドクの父、サドクはアキムの父、アキムはエリウデの父です。
15エリウデはエレアザルの父、エレアザルはマタンの父、マタンはヤコブの父です。
16そして、ヤコブはヨセフの父です〔このヨセフが、キリストと呼ばれるイエスの母マリヤの夫となった人です〕。
17こういう次第で、アブラハムからダビデ王までが十四代、ダビデ王からバビロン移住までが十四代、バビロン移住からキリストまでが十四代となります。
約束されていた救い主
18イエス・キリストの誕生は次のとおりです。母マリヤはヨセフと婚約していました。ところが結婚する前に、聖霊によってみごもったのです。 19婚約者のヨセフは、神の教えを堅く守る人でしたから、婚約を破棄しようと決心しました。しかし、人前にマリヤの恥をさらしたくなかったので、ひそかに縁を切ることにしました。
20ヨセフがこのことで悩んでいた時、天使が夢に現れて言いました。「ダビデの子孫ヨセフよ。ためらわないで、マリヤと結婚しなさい。マリヤは聖霊によってみごもったのです。 21彼女は男の子を産みます。その子をイエス（「主は救い」の意）と名づけなさい。この方こそ、ご自分を信じる人々を罪から救ってくださるからです。 22このことはみな、神が預言者（神に託されたことばを語る人）を通して語られた、次のことばが実現するためです。
23『見よ。処女がみごもって、男の子を産む。その子はインマヌエル〔神が私たちと共におられる〕と呼ばれる。』（イザヤ7・14）」
24目が覚めるとヨセフは、天使の命じたとおり、マリヤと結婚しました。 25しかし、その子が生まれるまでは、マリヤに触れませんでした。そして、生まれた子をイエスと名づけました。

2Abraham was the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,
3Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar,
Perez the father of Hezron,
Hezron the father of Ram,
4Ram the father of Amminadab,
Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
5Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab,
Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth,
Obed the father of Jesse,
6and Jesse the father of King David.
David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife,
7Solomon the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah,
Abijah the father of Asa,
8Asa the father of Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram,
Jehoram the father of Uzziah,
9Uzziah the father of Jotham,
Jotham the father of Ahaz,
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah,
10Hezekiah the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amon,
Amon the father of Josiah,
11and Josiah the father of Jeconiah1:11 That is, Jehoiachin; also in verse 12 and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon.
12After the exile to Babylon:
Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
13Zerubbabel the father of Abihud,
Abihud the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
14Azor the father of Zadok,
Zadok the father of Akim,
Akim the father of Elihud,
15Elihud the father of Eleazar,
Eleazar the father of Matthan,
Matthan the father of Jacob,
16and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah.
17Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
Joseph accepts Jesus as his son
18This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about1:18 Or The origin of Jesus the Messiah was like this: his mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet1:19 Or was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,1:21 Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means the Lord saves. because he will save his people from their sins.’
22All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’1:23 Isaiah 7:14 (which means ‘God with us’).
24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
