イスラエルへの罰
1イスラエルよ、ほかの国々のように喜ぶな。
あなたは自分の神を捨て去り、すべての麦打ち場で、
ほかの神々にいけにえをささげたからだ。
2それゆえ、収穫は乏しく、ぶどうの木も枯れてしまう。
3あなたはこの神の地にこれ以上とどまることができず、
エジプトやアッシリヤに連れ去られる。
そこで残飯を食べて暮らすようになる。
4祖国を遠く離れたその地では、神へのささげ物として
ぶどう酒を注ぐことは許されない。
その地でささげられるいけにえは、
どれも神を喜ばせることができないからだ。
それは、葬式の食物のように汚れている。
そのようないけにえを食べる者は汚れる。
自分のためにそれを食べるのはかまわないが、
神にささげることは許されない。
5-6それでは、
アッシリヤに奴隷として連れて行かれる時、
聖なる日や主の祭りの日に、何をしようとするのか。
あとに残された財産は、だれが相続するのか。
エジプトだ。
エジプトはあなたたちの死体を集め、
メンピスが埋葬する。
その廃墟には、いばらとあざみが生える。
7イスラエルの刑罰の日がきた。
報復の日がほぼきており、まもなくイスラエルは、
そのことをいやというほど思い知らされる。
『預言者たちは頭がおかしい。』
『霊感を受けた人たちは狂っている。』
こう言って人々はあざ笑う。
それは、この国が罪の重りをつけられ、
神を愛する者たちに憎しみしか示さないからだ。
8わたしは自分の民を守ろうと預言者を任命した。
だが、民はことあるごとに預言者たちを妨害し、
公の場で憎しみを露骨に示し、
主の神殿でも同じようにふるまった。
9今わたしの民がしていることは、
昔、彼らがギブアでしたこと（士師19・14以下参照）と
同じように堕落している。
主はそれを忘れず、必ず罰を下す。
10ああ、イスラエルよ。
荒野であなたたちを導いた、あのころ、
わたしはあなたたちを
荒野で見つけたぶどうのように、
夏の初物のいちじくのように、
大切にした。
ところがあなたたちは、
バアル・ペオル（イスラエル人が偶像礼拝をした山）で
わたしを捨て、ほかの神々に身をゆだね、
やがて、それらの神々と同じように汚れてしまった。
11イスラエルの栄光は鳥のように飛び去る。
あなたたちの子どもは出産と同時に死に、
あるいは胎内で消えうせ、
あるいははらまれることもなくなる。
12たとえ子どもが育っても、わたしは彼らを取り去る。
すべてが滅びに定められている。
わたしがあなたたちから離れ、
あなたたちを放り出す時は、悲しみの日となる。」
13わたしはイスラエルの息子たちを
滅びに定めた。
父親は、虐殺が行われる場所まで
息子たちを連れて行かなければならない。
14主よ、あなたの民のために、
何を願ったらよいのでしょう。
子を産まない胎を、
乳を出して養うことをできない乳房を、私は求めます。
15「彼らのすべての悪事はギルガルで始まった。
わたしも、その地で彼らを憎み始めた。
その偶像礼拝のゆえに、
わたしは彼らをわたしの地から追い出す。
もう彼らを愛さない。
彼らの指導者はみな反逆者だからだ。
16エフライムは滅びに定められている。
イスラエルの根は干からび、もう実を結ばなくなる。
たとえ子を産んでも、わたしはそのいとし子を殺す。」
17私の神は、イスラエルの民が聞くことも
従うこともしないので、彼らを滅ぼします。
彼らは諸国の民の間で、祖国のない、
さすらいの民となるのです。
Punishment for Israel
1Do not rejoice, Israel;
do not be jubilant like the other nations.
For you have been unfaithful to your God;
you love the wages of a prostitute
at every threshing floor.
2Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people;
the new wine will fail them.
3They will not remain in the Lord’s land;
Ephraim will return to Egypt
and eat unclean food in Assyria.
4They will not pour out wine offerings to the Lord,
nor will their sacrifices please him.
Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners;
all who eat them will be unclean.
This food will be for themselves;
it will not come into the temple of the Lord.
5What will you do on the day of your appointed festivals,
on the feast days of the Lord?
6Even if they escape from destruction,
Egypt will gather them,
and Memphis will bury them.
Their treasures of silver will be taken over by briers,
and thorns will overrun their tents.
7The days of punishment are coming,
the days of reckoning are at hand.
Let Israel know this.
Because your sins are so many
and your hostility so great,
the prophet is considered a fool,
the inspired person a maniac.
8The prophet, along with my God,
is the watchman over Ephraim,9:8 Or The prophet is the watchman over Ephraim, / the people of my God
yet snares await him on all his paths,
and hostility in the house of his God.
9They have sunk deep into corruption,
as in the days of Gibeah.
God will remember their wickedness
and punish them for their sins.
10“When I found Israel,
it was like finding grapes in the desert;
when I saw your ancestors,
it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree.
But when they came to Baal Peor,
they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol
and became as vile as the thing they loved.
11Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird—
no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.
12Even if they rear children,
I will bereave them of every one.
Woe to them
when I turn away from them!
13I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre,
planted in a pleasant place.
But Ephraim will bring out
their children to the slayer.”
14Give them, Lord—
what will you give them?
Give them wombs that miscarry
and breasts that are dry.
15“Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal,
I hated them there.
Because of their sinful deeds,
I will drive them out of my house.
I will no longer love them;
all their leaders are rebellious.
16Ephraim is blighted,
their root is withered,
they yield no fruit.
Even if they bear children,
I will slay their cherished offspring.”
17My God will reject them
because they have not obeyed him;
they will be wanderers among the nations.
