ダビデとツィバ
1ダビデが山の頂上から少し下ったころ、メフィボシェテ家の執事ともいうべきツィバが、ようやく追いつきました。二頭のろばに、パン二百個、干しぶどう百房、ぶどう百房、それにぶどう酒一たるを積んでいます。
2王は、「いったい何のためだ」と尋ねました。
「ろばはご家族がお乗りになるため、パンと夏のくだものは若いご家来衆に、ぶどう酒は荒野で弱った方々に召し上がっていただくためです。」
3「メフィボシェテはどこにいる。」
「エルサレムに残っております。あの方は、『今こそ、王になれる。今日こそ、祖父サウルの王国を取り戻す』と申しておりました。」
4「それがかなったら、メフィボシェテのものを全部、おまえに与えよう。」
「ありがとうございます、王様。心からお礼申し上げます。」
ダビデをのろうシムイ
5ダビデの一行がバフリムの村を通り過ぎると、一人の男がのろいのことばを浴びせながら出て来ました。男はゲラの息子シムイで、サウル一族の者でした。 6彼は王と側近、さらに護衛の勇士のだれかれかまわず、石を投げつけました。
7-8「出て行けっ！ この人殺し！ 悪党め！」この時とばかり、ダビデをののしります。「よくもサウル王とその家族を殺してくれたな。ざまあ見ろ。罰があたったのだ。王位を盗んだおまえが、今は息子のアブシャロムに王位を奪われた。これが神のおぼしめしというものだ。今度は、おまえが同じ手口で殺されるのだ。」
9あまりのひどさに、アビシャイが申し出ました。「あの死に犬に、あなたをのろわせておいてよいものでしょうか。あいつの首をはねさせてください。」
10「ならぬ！ 主が彼にのろわせておられるのだ。どうして止められるだろう。 11実の息子が私を殺そうとしているのだぞ。このベニヤミン人は、のろっているだけではないか。放っておきなさい。主がそうさせておられるのだから。 12おそらく主は、私が不当な扱いを受けていることをご存じで、それに甘んじる私に、あののろいに代えて祝福を下さるだろう。」
13一行がなおも進んで行くと、シムイも丘の中腹をダビデと並行して歩き、のろったり、石を投げたり、ちりをばらまいたりしました。 14王も従者も全員、くたくたに疲れていました。それで一行はしばらく休息することにしました。
アヒトフェルとフシャイの進言
15その間に、アブシャロムと彼の兵は、エルサレム入城を果たしました。アヒトフェルもいっしょでした。 16ダビデの友、アルキ人フシャイはエルサレムに戻り、直ちにアブシャロムに謁見を求めて来ると、「王様、ばんざい！ 王様、ばんざい！」と叫びました。 17アブシャロムは尋ねました。「これが、父ダビデに対する態度か。どうして父といっしょに行かなかったのだ。」
18「私はただ、主とイスラエルの民によって選ばれたお方に仕えたいのです。 19かつてはお父上でしたが、これからは、あなたにお仕えします。」
20話が決まると、アブシャロムはアヒトフェルに、「さて、これからどうしたものか」と意見を求めました。 21アヒトフェルは進言しました。「お父上が宮殿の留守番にと残しておかれた、そばめたちがいます。まず、その女たちを訪ねて、いっしょに寝られるのがよろしい。それくらい父君を侮辱すれば、全国民はもう、あなたと父君の仲は致命的で、和解の余地はないと察するでしょう。そうすれば、いっそう民はあなたのもとに一致団結します。」
22そこで、宮殿の屋上に、だれの目にもそれとわかる天幕（テント）が張られました。アブシャロムはそこへ入って、父のそばめたちと寝たのです。 23アブシャロムは、かつてダビデがそうしたように、アヒトフェルのことばには何でも従いました。アヒトフェルが語ることはすべて、神の口から直接授けられた知恵のように思われたからです。
1And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine. 2And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink. 3And the king said, And where is thy master’s son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father. 4Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. 9¶ Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head. 10And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the LORD hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so? 11And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him. 12It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.16.12 affliction: or, tears: Heb. eye 13And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.16.13 cast…: Heb. dusted him with dust 14And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
15¶ And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. 16And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.16.16 God…: Heb. 20¶ Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do. 21And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong. 22So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. 23And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.16.23 oracle: Heb. word
