1Een psalm van David. Een lied voor de koordirigent.
2Als God aantreedt,
vluchten zijn vijanden alle kanten uit,
zij snellen weg om Hem niet te hoeven zien,
alle mensen die Hem haten.
3U verdrijft hen.
Zoals rook uit elkaar drijft
en was in de warmte smelt,
zo blijft van de ongelovigen niets over
als God eraan komt.
4Maar de gelovigen zijn blij
als zij God zien
en juichen voor Hem.
Met veel vertoon van blijdschap
laten zij dat blijken.
5Zing voor God,
zing psalmen ter ere van zijn naam.
Maak een effen weg
voor Hem die door de vlakten nadert.
Zijn naam is Here,
jubel het uit voor Hem.
6Hij is een vader voor ouderloze kinderen
en komt op voor de rechten van de weduwen,
Hij is God, die woont in zijn heilig huis.
7God, die eenzame mensen weer familie geeft
en gevangenen bevrijdt en welstand geeft,
maar opstandigen laat Hij achter Zich
in een dor en droog land.
8Mijn God, toen U voor ons volk uittrok
en ons voorging in de wildernis,
9toen trilde de aarde en de hemel droop
omdat U Zich toonde,
zelfs de Sinaï beefde toen zij U zag,
U, de God van Israël.
10U gaf ons een overvloed,
vele goede dingen gaf U ons, o God.
Toen het land uitgeput was,
gaf U het nieuwe kracht.
11Uw volk putte daaruit.
U hielp ons
die er zo ellendig aan toe waren,
met uw goedheid en trouw.
12Het machtige woord van de Here
werd over ons uitgesproken
en het goede nieuws
werd ons door velen gebracht.
13De koningen van de vijandelijke legers vluchtten allemaal
en de vrouwen konden de buit verdelen.
14Zou u tussen de schaapskooien blijven liggen?
U zult zijn als duiven
met zilveren vleugels en gouden slagpennen.
15Toen de Almachtige God de koningen verjoeg,
leek de berg Salmon wit als sneeuw.
16De berg van God lijkt op de bergen van Basan,
met hun vele toppen.
17Waarom kijken jullie, toppen van Basan, zo jaloers
naar de berg die God uitkoos om er te wonen?
Luister, de Here zal daar voor eeuwig blijven wonen.
18God bezit vele duizenden strijdwagens.
Vanaf de Sinaï is de Here zijn huis binnengegaan.
19U bent naar de hemel gegaan
en hebt gevangenen met U meegenomen.
U hebt geschenken ontvangen voor de mensen,
zelfs voor de opstandigen onder hen.
U wilt bij hen wonen, Here God.
20Wij prijzen de Here,
elke dag opnieuw staat Hij ons bij.
Deze God geeft ons bevrijding.
21Die God is een God die altijd voor uitkomst zorgt.
De Oppermachtige Here bewaart ons voor de ondergang.
22Luister, God vernietigt zijn vijanden,
Hij doodt de mensen die blijven zondigen.
23De Here heeft beloofd
onze vijanden aan ons over te leveren,
waar dan ook vandaan.
Al moest Hij hen van de zeebodem weghalen.
24Opdat Israël de overwinning heeft
en zelfs de honden hun deel krijgen van de vijand.
25O God, ik zie de feestelijke optocht ter ere van U gaan,
iedereen loopt voor U, mijn God en mijn Koning,
naar uw heilig huis.
26Vooraan lopen de zangers,
daarachter de muzikanten met de snaarinstrumenten.
Dan de jonge meisjes met hun tamboerijnen.
27Met prachtige liederen prijzen zij God, de Here,
die Israël steeds weer kracht en leven geeft.
28Ik zie daar de jongste stam,
Benjamin, die een groot regeerder is.
En de leiders van Juda, wat zijn het er veel!
En daar de leiders van Zebulon en Naftali.
29Uw God gaf u de macht.
O God, laat ons maar zien hoe groot uw macht is,
waardoor U ons de overwinning gaf.
30De koningen bieden U geschenken aan
voor uw tempel in Jeruzalem.
31Bedreig het ongedierte in het riet,
de talloze stieren en kalveren van de volken.
Allen die uit zijn op geldelijk gewin.
Laat de volken die op oorlog uit zijn,
uitzwermen naar alle kanten.
32Er komen hooggeplaatsten uit Egypte aan
en de mensen uit Ethiopië wenden zich tot God
en roepen Hem aan.
33Laten alle koninkrijken die er zijn,
voor God lofliederen zingen.
Zing psalmen voor de Here.
34Hij is meester over alle hemelen en alomtegenwoordig.
Luister! Zijn machtige stem klinkt.
35Geef God alle eer.
Hij is onze sterkte.
Hij regeert over Israël.
Zijn kracht omspant alles.
36O God, uw roem en eer zijn befaamd.
Men weet dat U in uw heilig huis woont.
De God van Israël geeft alle kracht en sterkte aan zijn volk.
Wij loven en prijzen onze God!
