1Zing een loflied voor de Here,
allen die met God leven!
Het is goed als Gods kinderen Hem loven.
2Zing een loflied voor de Here met de citer,
zing een psalm met de tiensnarige harp.
3Zing een nieuw lied voor de Here,
begeleid door prachtig snarenspel.
4Want het woord van de Here is betrouwbaar
en uit al zijn daden blijkt zijn trouw.
5God houdt van oprechtheid en eerlijkheid.
De aarde loopt over van de goedheid en liefde van de Here.
6De hemelen werden door het woord van de Here gemaakt,
alles wat er in is, ontstond door zijn adem.
7Hij brengt het water in de zeeën bijeen
en slaat al het water op in zijn schatkamers.
8Laat de hele aarde ontzag hebben voor de Here,
alle bewoners van de aarde moeten met eerbied voor Hem buigen.
9Want God sprak en toen was het er.
Op zijn gebod stond alles er.
10De Here doorbreekt de plannen van de volken
en voorkomt hun slechte voornemens.
11De wil van de Here blijft voor eeuwig bestaan.
Zijn gedachten worden van generatie op generatie overgedragen.
12Gelukkig is het volk dat de Here als zijn God heeft,
het volk dat Hij Zich als erfdeel koos.
13De Here kijkt uit de hemel neer
en let op de mensen.
14Vanuit zijn woning kijkt Hij
naar de bewoners op aarde.
15Hij die hen zelf heeft gemaakt,
weet precies waarom zij doen wat zij doen.
16Een koning overwint niet door zijn grote leger,
een held redt het niet door zijn grote kracht.
17Overwinning wordt niet bewerkt door paarden alleen.
Wanneer een leger ontkomt,
is dat echt niet dankzij de kracht van een paard.
18Let maar op, de Here waakt
over hen die ontzag voor Hem hebben,
en over hen die zijn goedheid en liefde verwachten.
19Zij weten dat zij alleen zo
aan de dood kunnen ontkomen,
dat alleen de Here
hen bewaart voor hongersnood.
20Wij verwachten de Here met heel ons hart.
Hij helpt en beschermt ons.
21Ja, ons hele hart juicht van vreugde
en wij vertrouwen alleen op Hem.
22Here, laten uw goedheid en liefde ons nooit verlaten.
En wij willen U altijd blijven verwachten.
Psalm 33
1You who are godly, sing with joy to the Lord.
It is right for honest people to praise him.
2With the harp, praise the Lord.
With the lyre that has ten strings, make music to him.
3Sing a new song to him.
Play with skill, and shout with joy.
4What the Lord says is right and true.
He is faithful in everything he does.
5The Lord loves what is right and fair.
The earth is full of his faithful love.
6The heavens were made when the Lord commanded it to happen.
All the stars were created by the breath of his mouth.
7He gathers together the waters of the sea.
He puts the oceans in their places.
8Let the whole earth have respect for the Lord.
Let all the people in the world honor him.
9He spoke, and the world came into being.
He commanded, and it stood firm.
10The Lord blocks the sinful plans of the nations.
He keeps them from doing what they want to do.
11But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever.
What he wants to do will last for all time.
12Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
Blessed are the people he chose to be his own.
13From heaven the Lord looks down
and sees everyone.
14From his throne he watches
all those who live on the earth.
15He creates the hearts of all people.
He is aware of everything they do.
16A king isn’t saved just because his army is big.
A soldier doesn’t escape just because he is very strong.
17People can’t trust a horse to save them either.
Though it is very strong, it can’t save them.
18But the Lord looks with favor on those who respect him.
He watches over those who put their hope in his faithful love.
19He watches over them to save them from death.
He wants to keep them alive when there is no food in the land.
20We wait in hope for the Lord.
He helps us. He is like a shield that keeps us safe.
21Our hearts are full of joy because of him.
We trust in him, because he is holy.
22Lord, may your faithful love be with us.
We put our hope in you.
