1 Kronieken 1:1-54

Historisch overzicht

1Dit zijn de vroegste generaties van de mensheid: Adam, Set, Enos, 2Kenan, 3Mahalalel, Jered, Henoch, Metuselach, 4Lamech, Noach, Sem, Cham en Jafet. 5De zonen van Jafet waren Gomer, Magog, Madai, Jawan, Tubal, Mesech en Tiras. 6De zonen van Gomer waren Askenaz, Difat en Togarma. 7De zonen van Jawan waren Elisa, Tarsis, de Kittiërs en de Rodanieten. 8De zonen van Cham waren Kus, Misraïm, Put en Kanaän. 9De zonen van Kus waren Seba, Chawila, Sabta, Rama en Sabtecha. De zonen van Rama waren Seba en Dedan. 10Nimrod, die later een beroemde held werd, was ook een zoon van Kus. 11De families die naar de zonen van Misraïm werden genoemd, waren de Ludieten, de Anamieten, de Lehabieten, 12de Naftuchieten, de Patrusieten, de Kashluchieten, de voorvaders van de Filistijnen, en de Kretenzers. 13Onder Kanaäns zonen bevonden zich ook zijn oudste zoon Sidon en Chet. 14Kanaän was tevens de voorvader van de Jebusieten, de Amorieten, de Girgasieten, 15de Chiwwieten, de Arkieten, de Sinieten, 16de Arwadieten, de Semarieten en de Hamatieten. 17De zonen van Sem waren Elam, Assur, Arpachsad, Lud, Aram, Us, Chul, Geter en Mesech. 18Arpachsads zoon was Selach en Selachs zoon was Eber. 19Eber had twee zonen: Peleg, die zo heette omdat tijdens zijn leven de aarde werd verdeeld, en zijn broer Joktan. 20De zonen van Joktan waren Almodad, 21Selef, Chasarmawet, Jerach, Hadoram, 22Uzal, Dikla, Ebal, Abimaël, 23Seba, Ofir, Chawila en Jobab. 24De zoon van Sem was Arpachsad, de zoon van Arpachsad was Selach, 25de zoon van Selach was Eber, 26de zoon van Eber was Peleg, de zoon van Peleg was Reü, de zoon van Reü was Serug, de zoon van Serug was Nachor, 27de zoon van Nachor was Terach, de zoon van Terach was Abram, die later Abraham werd genoemd.

28Abrahams zonen waren Isaak en Ismaël. 29De zonen van Ismaël waren Nebajot, de oudste, Kedar, 30Adbeël, Mibsam, Misma, Duma, Massa, Chadad, Tema, 31Jetur, Nafis en Kedema. 32Abraham kreeg ook zonen van zijn bijvrouw Ketura. Dat waren achtereenvolgens Zimran, Joksan, Medan, Midjan, Jisbak en Suach. Joksans zonen waren Seba en Dedan. 33De zonen van Midjan waren Efa, Efer, Chanoch, Abida en Eldaä. Dit waren de nakomelingen die Abrahams bijvrouw Ketura hem gaf.

34Abrahams zoon Isaak had twee zonen: Esau en Israël. 35De zonen van Esau waren Elifaz, Reüel, Jeüs, Jalam en Korach. 36De zonen van Elifaz waren Teman, Omar, Zefi, Gatam, Kenaz, Timna en Amalek. 37De zonen van Reüel waren Nachat, Zerach, Samma en Mizza. 38Tot de zonen van Esau behoorden tevens Lotan, Sobal, Sibon, Ana, Dison, Eser en Disan. Lotans zonen waren: Chori en Homam. 39Lotan had ook nog een zuster, die Timna heette. 40De zonen van Sobal waren Aljan, Manachat, Ebal, Sefi en Onam. Sibons zonen waren Ajja en Ana. 41De zoon van Ana was Dison en deze Dison had de volgende zonen: Chamran, Esban, Jitran en Keran. 42De zonen van Eser waren Bilhan, Zaäwan en Jaäkan. Disan had twee zonen: Us en Aran.

43Hier volgen de namen van de koningen van Edom, die regeerden voordat een koning over Israël regeerde: Bela, de zoon van Beor, die in de stad Dinhaba woonde. 44Na de dood van Bela werd Jobab, de zoon van Zerach uit Bosra, de nieuwe koning. 45Toen Jobab stierf, volgde Chusam uit de streek van de Temanieten, hem op. 46Na diens dood werd Hadad, de zoon van Bedad, koning. Hij regeerde vanuit de stad Awit. Hij was het die het leger van Midjan in de velden van Moab versloeg. 47Na de dood van Hadad besteeg Samla uit Masreka de troon. 48Na Samlaʼs overlijden kwam Saul uit de aan de rivier gelegen stad Rechobot aan de macht. 49Toen Saul stierf, stond Baäl-Chanan, de zoon van Achbor, klaar om hem op te volgen. 50Na de dood van Baäl-Chanan werd Hadad koning en regeerde vanuit de stad Paï. Zijn vrouw heette Mehetabel, zij was een dochter van Matred en een kleindochter van Me-Zahab. 51-54Na Hadads dood waren de volgende mannen de stamhoofden van Edom: Timna, Alja, Jetet, Oholibama, Ela, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibsar, Magdiël en Iram.

17The sons of Shem:

Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.

18Arphaxad was the father of Shelah,

and Shelah the father of Eber.

19Two sons were born to Eber:

one was named Peleg,1:19 Peleg means division. because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

20Joktan was the father of

Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah.

All these were descendants of Keturah.

34Abraham was the father of Isaac.

43These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned:

Bela son of Beor, whose city was named Dinhabah.

44When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king.

45When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

46When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith.

47When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.

48When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river1:48 Possibly the Euphrates succeeded him as king.

49When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Akbor succeeded him as king.

50When Baal-Hanan died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau,1:50 Many Hebrew manuscripts, some Septuagint manuscripts, Vulgate and Syriac (see also Gen. 36:39); most Hebrew manuscripts Pai and his wife’s name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. 51Hadad also died.

The chiefs of Edom were:

Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 52Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54Magdiel and Iram.

These were the chiefs of Edom.
