2Wir danken dir, o Gott – ja, dir allein gilt unser Dank!
Denn du bist uns nahe! Von deinen Wundern erzählen wir.
3Gott spricht: »Wenn meine Zeit gekommen ist,
werde ich Gericht halten und für Gerechtigkeit sorgen!
4Mag auch die Erde beben, und mögen ihre Bewohner vor Angst zittern –
ich selbst habe die Fundamente der Erde unverrückbar festgelegt.
5So befehle ich nun den großmäuligen Angebern:
Schluss mit euren großen Worten!
Denen, die mich ablehnen, sage ich: Blast euch nicht so auf!
6Ja, hört auf zu prahlen und lasst ab von eurem Stolz!75,6 Verse 5b–6a wörtlich: Denen, die mich ablehnen, sage ich: Erhebt nicht das Horn! Erhebt nicht zur Höhe euer Horn!
Tragt eure Nase nicht so hoch!
7Wahre Größe kann kein Mensch verleihen –

8Denn Gott allein ist Richter:
Den einen lässt er fallen, den anderen bringt er zu Ansehen und Macht.
9Der Herr hat einen Becher in seiner Hand,
gefüllt mit starkem, betäubendem Trank.
Alle, die Gott verachten,
müssen den Becher bis zum letzten bitteren Tropfen austrinken.
10Ich aber will immer von Gott erzählen,
für ihn, den Gott Jakobs, will ich musizieren.
11Er spricht: »Ich werde die Macht der Gottlosen brechen;

1We praise you, God,
we praise you, for your Name is near;
people tell of your wonderful deeds.
2You say, ‘I choose the appointed time;
it is I who judge with equity.
3When the earth and all its people quake,
it is I who hold its pillars firm.75:3 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here.
4To the arrogant I say, “Boast no more,”
and to the wicked, “Do not lift up your horns.75:4 Horns here symbolise strength; also in verses 5 and 10.
5Do not lift your horns against heaven;
do not speak so defiantly.” ’
6No-one from the east or the west
or from the desert can exalt themselves.
7It is God who judges:
he brings one down, he exalts another.
8In the hand of the Lord is a cup
full of foaming wine mixed with spices;
he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth
drink it down to its very dregs.
9As for me, I will declare this for ever;
I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,
10who says, ‘I will cut off the horns of all the wicked,
but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.’
