2Gott ist unsere Zuflucht und Stärke,
ein bewährter Helfer in Zeiten der Not.
3Darum fürchten wir uns nicht, selbst wenn die Erde erbebt,
die Berge wanken und in den Tiefen des Meeres versinken.
4Auch dann nicht, wenn die Wogen tosen und schäumen
und die Berge von ihrem Wüten erschüttert werden.
5Ein breiter, mächtiger Strom belebt die Stadt Gottes,
die Wohnung des Höchsten, den heiligen Ort.
6Gott ist in ihrer Mitte, schon früh am Morgen beschützt er sie;
niemals wird sie ins Unglück stürzen.
7Ringsum versinken die Völker im Chaos,
und ihre Macht wird erschüttert.
Denn Gott lässt seine mächtige Stimme erschallen,
und schon vergeht die ganze Erde.
8Der Herr, der allmächtige Gott, steht uns bei!
Der Gott Jakobs ist unser Schutz.
9Kommt und seht, was der Herr Großes getan hat!
Seine Taten verbreiten Entsetzen.
10In aller Welt bereitet er den Kriegen ein Ende.
Die Kampfbogen bricht er entzwei,
er zersplittert die Speere und verbrennt die Kriegswagen46,10 Oder: Schilde..
11»Hört auf!«, ruft er, »und erkennt, dass ich Gott bin!
Ich stehe über den Völkern; ich habe Macht über die ganze Welt.«
12Der Herr, der allmächtige Gott, steht uns bei!
Der Gott Jakobs ist unser Schutz!

1God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.46:3 The Hebrew has Selah (a word of uncertain meaning) here and at the end of verses 7 and 11.
4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields46:9 Or chariots with fire.
10He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.’
11The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
