Das Volk verpflichtet sich, das Gesetz zu befolgen
1Nachdem wir Gott unsere Schuld bekannt hatten, schlossen wir eine Vereinbarung und hielten sie schriftlich fest. Unsere führenden Männer, unsere Leviten und Priester unterschrieben die Urkunde und versiegelten sie.
2Als Erste unterzeichneten der Statthalter Nehemia, der Sohn von Hachalja, und Zedekia, 3dann die Priester Seraja, Asarja, Jirmeja, 4Paschhur, Amarja, Malkija, 5Hattusch, Schebanja, Malluch, 6Harim, Meremot, Obadja, 7Daniel, Ginneton, Baruch, 8Meschullam, Abija, Mijamin, 9Maasja, Bilga und Schemaja.
10Danach unterschrieben die Leviten Jeschua, der Sohn von Asanja, Binnui von der Sippe Henadad, Kadmiël 11und ihre Stammesbrüder Schechanja, Hodija, Kelita, Pelaja, Hanan, 12Micha, Rehob, Haschabja, 13Sakkur, Scherebja, Schebanja, 14Hodija, Bani und Beninu.
15Als Nächste unterzeichneten die führenden Männer des Volkes: Parosch, Pahat-Moab, Elam, Sattu, Bani, 16Bunni, Asgad, Bebai, 17Adonija, Bigwai, Adin, 18Ater, Hiskia, Asur, 19Hodija, Haschum, Bezai, 20Harif, Anatot, Nebai, 21Magpiasch, Meschullam, Hesir, 22Meschesabel, Zadok, Jaddua, 23Pelatja, Hanan, Anaja, 24Hoschea, Hananja, Haschub, 25Lohesch, Pilha, Schobek, 26Rehum, Haschabna, Maaseja, 27Ahija, Hanan, Anan, 28Malluch, Harim und Baana.
29Auch das übrige Volk schloss sich der Verpflichtung an: weitere Priester und Leviten, die Torwächter, Sänger, Tempeldiener und alle, die sich von den heidnischen Völkern des Landes abgesondert hatten, um Gottes Gesetz zu befolgen. Auch ihre Frauen schlossen sich an sowie ihre Söhne und Töchter, sofern sie alt genug waren, die Vereinbarung zu verstehen. 30Zusammen mit den führenden Männern legten sie einen Eid ab, das Gesetz zu befolgen, das uns Gott durch seinen Diener Mose gegeben hat. Sie wollten nach den Geboten des Herrn, nach seinen Ordnungen und Weisungen leben. 31Sie schworen:
»Wir verheiraten unsere Söhne und Töchter nicht mit Männern und Frauen aus den anderen Völkern.
32Wenn Angehörige fremder Völker uns am Sabbat oder an einem anderen Gott geweihten Tag Getreide und Waren anbieten, so kaufen wir nichts.
Jedes siebte Jahr lassen wir das Land brachliegen und erlassen den Menschen sämtliche Schulden.
33Wir verpflichten uns, jährlich eine kleine Silbermünze für den Dienst im Tempel zu zahlen: 34für das Brot, das Gott geweiht ist, für die täglichen Speiseopfer und Brandopfer, die Opfer an den Sabbaten, Neumondfeiern und den übrigen Festtagen, für die besonderen Opfergaben und für die Opfer, die Israels Schuld tilgen, sowie für alle Arbeiten im Tempel unseres Gottes.
35Wir werfen das Los unter den Priestern, den Leviten und dem übrigen Volk, um zu bestimmen, in welcher Reihenfolge ihre Sippen jedes Jahr zu den festgesetzten Zeiten beim Tempel erscheinen sollen. Sie sollen das Brennholz für die Opfer stiften, die auf dem Altar am Tempel verbrannt werden, wie es im Gesetz vorgeschrieben ist.
36Die ersten Früchte unserer Felder und Bäume liefern wir jedes Jahr beim Tempel des Herrn ab.
37Wie es im Gesetz steht, bringen wir unseren erstgeborenen Sohn zum Tempel und weihen ihn Gott. Die ersten Jungen unserer Kühe, Schafe und Ziegen geben wir den Priestern. 38Bei ihnen liefern wir auch das erste gemahlene Korn ab sowie die besten Früchte unserer Bäume, den ersten Wein und das erste Olivenöl. Diese Gaben bringen wir in die Vorratskammern beim Tempel unseres Gottes.
In den Dörfern geben wir den Leviten den zehnten Teil vom Ertrag unserer Felder. 39Dabei soll ein Priester, ein Nachkomme von Aaron, anwesend sein. Den zehnten Teil dieser Abgaben sollen die Leviten in die Vorratskammern am Tempel unseres Gottes bringen. 40Das Volk und die Leviten werden dort das Getreide, den neuen Wein und das Olivenöl abliefern. In den Räumen werden auch alle Gegenstände für den Tempeldienst aufbewahrt; außerdem haben dort die Priester, Torwächter und Sänger ihre Kammern.
Wir wollen dafür sorgen, dass der Tempeldienst ausgeübt werden kann, so wie es vorgeschrieben ist.«

28“The rest of the people—priests, Levites, gatekeepers, musicians, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand— 29all these now join their fellow Israelites the nobles, and bind themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the Law of God given through Moses the servant of God and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations and decrees of the Lord our Lord.
30“We promise not to give our daughters in marriage to the peoples around us or take their daughters for our sons.
31“When the neighboring peoples bring merchandise or grain to sell on the Sabbath, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. Every seventh year we will forgo working the land and will cancel all debts.
32“We assume the responsibility for carrying out the commands to give a third of a shekel10:32 That is, about 1/8 ounce or about 4 grams each year for the service of the house of our God: 33for the bread set out on the table; for the regular grain offerings and burnt offerings; for the offerings on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals; for the holy offerings; for sin offerings10:33 Or purification offerings to make atonement for Israel; and for all the duties of the house of our God.
34“We—the priests, the Levites and the people—have cast lots to determine when each of our families is to bring to the house of our God at set times each year a contribution of wood to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the Law.
35“We also assume responsibility for bringing to the house of the Lord each year the firstfruits of our crops and of every fruit tree.
36“As it is also written in the Law, we will bring the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests ministering there.
37“Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and olive oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work. 38A priest descended from Aaron is to accompany the Levites when they receive the tithes, and the Levites are to bring a tenth of the tithes up to the house of our God, to the storerooms of the treasury. 39The people of Israel, including the Levites, are to bring their contributions of grain, new wine and olive oil to the storerooms, where the articles for the sanctuary and for the ministering priests, the gatekeepers and the musicians are also kept.
