1Dann sagte der Herr zu Noah: »Geh nun mit deiner ganzen Familie in die Arche! Denn ich habe mir die Menschen angesehen: Du bist der Einzige, der noch vor mir bestehen kann! 2Nimm von allen reinen Tieren je sieben Paare mit in das Schiff und von allen unreinen nur je ein Männchen und ein Weibchen! 3Bring auch je sieben Paare von allen Vogelarten mit! So können die verschiedenen Tierarten nach der Flut weiterbestehen und sich wieder auf der ganzen Erde vermehren. 4Noch eine Woche, dann werde ich es vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte regnen lassen, damit alles Leben auf der Erde vernichtet wird, das ich geschaffen habe!«
Die große Flut
5Noah befolgte alles genau so, wie der Herr es ihm befohlen hatte. 6Er war 600 Jahre alt, als die Sintflut7,6 Traditioneller Begriff für die große Flutkatastrophe, die Gott zu Noahs Zeiten hereinbrechen ließ. über die Erde hereinbrach.
7Noah und seine Frau, seine Söhne und Schwiegertöchter gingen in die Arche, um sich vor den Wassermassen in Sicherheit zu bringen. 8Sie nahmen die verschiedenen Tierarten mit – die reinen und unreinen –, von den Vögeln bis zu den Kriechtieren. 9Paarweise kamen sie in das Schiff, jeweils ein Männchen und ein Weibchen, so wie Gott es angeordnet hatte. 10Nach sieben Tagen brach die Flut herein.
11Es war im 600. Lebensjahr von Noah, am 17. Tag des 2. Monats. Niemand fehlte, alle waren an Bord, genau wie Gott es Noah befohlen hatte, und der Herr schloss hinter ihm zu.
17Vierzig Tage lang fiel das Wasser vom Himmel. Die Flut stieg ständig an und hob das Schiff vom Boden ab. 18Die Wassermassen nahmen immer mehr zu, bis das Schiff auf dem Wasser schwimmen konnte. 19Bald waren sogar sämtliche Berge bedeckt, 20das Wasser stand sieben Meter über ihren höchsten Gipfeln. 21-22Alle Lebewesen auf dem Land ertranken: das Vieh, die wilden Tiere, Vögel, Kriechtiere und auch die Menschen. 23Gott löschte das Leben auf der Erde völlig aus. Niemand konnte sich retten. Nur wer sich mit Noah an Bord der Arche befand, kam mit dem Leben davon.

5And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
6Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth. 7And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. 8Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, 9male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. 10And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.
11In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.
13On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. 14They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. 15Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. 16The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.
17For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. 20The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than fifteen cubits.7:20 That is, about 23 feet or about 6.8 meters7:20 Or rose more than fifteen cubits, and the mountains were covered 21Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. 22Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. 23Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; people and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds were wiped from the earth.
