Nagbalik sa Ila Lugar ang mga Tribo sang Israel sa Sidlangan
1Karon, gintipon ni Josue ang mga katawhan sang tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad, kag sang katunga sang tribo ni Manase. 2Nagsiling si Josue sa ila, “Ginhimo ninyo ang tanan nga ginsugo sa inyo ni Moises nga alagad sang Ginoo kag gintuman man ninyo ang tanan ko nga ginsugo. 3Hasta subong wala ninyo pagpabay-i ang inyo kapareho nga mga Israelinhon. Kag gintuman ninyo sing maayo ang tanan nga ginsugo sa inyo sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios. 4Kag karon, nabaton na sang inyo kapareho nga mga Israelinhon ang kapahuwayan nga ginpromisa sa ila sang Ginoo nga inyo Dios. Gani magpauli na kamo sa inyo mga lugar sa pihak sang Suba sang Jordan, sa duta nga ginhatag sa inyo ni Moises nga alagad sang Ginoo. 5Pero indi gid ninyo pagkalimtan nga tumanon ang mga sugo kag mga pagpanudlo nga ginhatag sa inyo ni Moises nga alagad sang Ginoo. Higugmaa ninyo ang Ginoo nga inyo Dios, magkabuhi kamo sa iya mga pamaagi, tumana ang iya mga sugo, magmatutom sa iya, kag alagara siya sa bug-os ninyo nga tagipusuon kag kalag.” 6Ginbendisyunan dayon sila ni Josue kag ginpapauli. 7(Ang katunga sang tribo ni Manase ginhatagan ni Moises sang duta sa Bashan, kag ang katunga pa gid nga tribo ginhatagan ni Josue sang duta sa nakatundan Suba sang Jordan upod sang iban nga mga tribo.)
Sang manugpauli na sila, ginbendisyunan sila ni Josue 8nga nagasiling, “Magpauli kamo nga dala ang inyo madamo nga mga manggad—mga kasapatan, pilak, bulawan, saway, salsalon kag mga bayo. Partihi ninyo ang inyo mga paryente sa inyo lugar sang bisan ano nga inyo naagaw sa inyo mga kaaway.” 9Kag dayon nagpauli ang mga katawhan sang tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad, kag sang katunga sang tribo ni Manase. Ginbayaan nila ang ila kapareho nga mga Israelinhon sa Shilo, sa duta sang Canaan, kag nagbalik sa Gilead, ang duta nga nangin parte nila suno sa ginsugo sang Ginoo paagi kay Moises.
10Pag-abot nila sa Gelilot, malapit sa Suba sang Jordan, nagpatindog sila didto sang dako nga halaran. Ini nga lugar sakop gihapon sang Canaan. 11-12Karon, nabalitaan sang iban nga mga Israelinhon nga nagpatindog ang tribo ni Reuben, Gad, kag katunga sang tribo ni Manase sang halaran sa dulunan sang Canaan sa Gelilot, malapit sa Suba sang Jordan. Gani nagtipon sila sa Shilo sa pagpakig-away kontra sa ila. 13Ginsugo sang mga Israelinhon si Finehas nga anak ni Eleazar nga pari nga magkadto sa Gilead, sa tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad kag sang katunga sang tribo ni Manase. 14May upod siya nga napulo ka pangulo halin sa kada tribo sang Israel. Kada isa sa ila pangulo sang mga pamilya sang ila mga tribo. 15Pag-abot nila sa Gilead, nagsiling sila sa tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad, kag sa katunga sang tribo ni Manase, 16“Gusto mahibaluan sang bug-os nga katilingban sang Ginoo kon ngaa nagtraidor kamo sa Dios sang Israel. Nagrebelde kamo sa Ginoo sa inyo pagpatindog sang halaran para sa inyo kaugalingon. Wala na kamo nagasunod sa iya. 17Wala pa bala kita makatuon sa aton sala didto sa Peor? Tungod sadto ginpadal-an kita sang Ginoo sang kalalat-an, kag nagaantos pa gani kita hasta subong. 18Kag karon nangahas pa kamo nga magtalikod sa Ginoo. Kon magrebelde gani kamo sa iya subong nga adlaw, buwas maakig gid siya sa bug-os nga katilingban sang Israel. 19Gani, kon kinahanglan ninyo ang halaran tungod ang inyo duta ginakabig nga mahigko, tabok kamo didto sa amon, sa duta sang Ginoo nga sa diin ara ang Tolda nga ginasimbahan sa iya, kag didto na kamo mag-estar. Pero indi lang kamo magpatindog sang iban nga halaran luwas sa halaran sang Ginoo nga aton Dios, tungod kay ina isa ka pagrebelde sa iya kag sa amon. 20Nalimtan na bala ninyo si Acan nga anak ni Zera? Sang ginlapas niya ang sugo parte sa mga butang nga ginhalad sing bug-os sa Ginoo, ginsilutan siya kag ang bug-os nga katilingban sang Israel. Indi lang siya ang napatay tungod sa iya sala.”
21Nagsabat ang mga tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad, kag sang katunga sang tribo ni Manase sa sadto nga mga pangulo: 22“Ang Ginoo amo ang Makagagahom nga Dios! Ang Ginoo amo ang Makagagahom nga Dios! Nakahibalo siya kon ngaa ginhimo namon ini, kag dapat man ninyo mahibaluan. Kon nagrebelde gid man kami ukon naglapas sa Ginoo, pamatya ninyo kami sa sini nga adlaw. 23Kon ginlapas namon ang Ginoo paagi sa pagpatindog sang amon kaugalingon nga halaran para sa mga halad nga ginasunog, mga halad nga regalo, ukon mga halad nga para sa maayo nga relasyon, kabay pa nga ang Ginoo mismo ang magsilot sa amon.
24“Ginhimo namon ini tungod nahadlok kami kay basi pa kon sa ulihi nga panahon ang inyo mga kaliwat magsiling sa amon mga kaliwat, ‘Ano ang labot ninyo sa Ginoo, ang Dios sang Israel? 25Ginhimo sang Ginoo nga dulunan ang Suba sang Jordan sa pagseparar sa inyo kag sa amon. Kamo nga mga tribo ni Reuben kag ni Gad, wala gid kamo sing labot sa Ginoo.’ Basi kon amo ina ang ila nga isiling kag mapauntat nila ang amon mga kaliwat sa pagsimba sa Ginoo. 26Gani ginpatindog namon ang halaran, indi para sa mga halad nga ginasunog kag sa iban pa nga mga halad, 27kundi bilang padumdom sa amon, sa inyo, kag para sa aton mga kaliwat nga ginasimba namon ang Ginoo paagi sa mga halad nga ginasunog, mga halad nga para sa maayo nga relasyon, kag iban pa nga mga halad didto sa iya Tolda.22:27 sa iya Tolda: sa literal, sa iya presensya. Gani sa ulihi indi makasiling ang inyo mga kaliwat sa amon mga kaliwat nga ini sila wala sing labot sa Ginoo. 28Kag kon matabo gid man nga hambalan nila ang amon mga kaliwat sang pareho sina, makasiling sila, ‘Tan-awa! Nagpatindog ang amon mga katigulangan sang halaran nga pareho sang halaran sang Ginoo, indi para sa mga halad nga ginasunog kag sa iban pa nga mga halad, kundi bilang padumdom sa amon kag sa inyo nga isa lang ka Dios ang aton ginasimba.’
29“Indi namon mahimo nga magrebelde ukon magtalikod sa Ginoo paagi sa pagpatindog sang amon kaugalingon nga halaran para sa mga halad nga ginasunog, mga halad nga regalo, kag sa iban pa nga mga halad. Indi namon pag-ibaylo ang halaran sang Ginoo nga aton Dios nga ara sa atubangan sang iya Tolda.”
30Nalipay si Finehas nga pari kag ang mga pangulo sang mga pamilya sang katilingban sang Israel sang nabatian nila ang ginsiling sang mga tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad, kag sang katunga sang tribo ni Manase. 31Gani nagsiling si Finehas nga anak ni Eleazar nga pari, “Nahibaluan naton karon nga kaupod naton ang Ginoo kay wala kamo nagrebelde sa iya. Ginluwas ninyo ang Israel sa silot sang Ginoo.”
32Dayon nagpauli sa Canaan si Finehas kag ang mga pangulo kag ginsugid nila sa mga Israelinhon ang ila pagsugilanon sa mga tribo ni Reuben kag ni Gad didto sa Gilead. 33Pagkabati nila sini, nalipay sila kag nagdayaw sa Dios. Kag wala na sila naghambal parte sa pagsalakay sa kadutaan nga ginaestaran sang mga tribo ni Reuben kag ni Gad.
34Gin-ngalanan sang mga tribo ni Reuben kag ni Gad ang halaran nga “Padumdom,” kay siling nila, “Padumdom ini para sa aton tanan nga ang Ginoo Dios naton.”
Eastern Tribes Return Home
1Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh 2and said to them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded, and you have obeyed me in everything I commanded. 3For a long time now—to this very day—you have not deserted your fellow Israelites but have carried out the mission the Lord your God gave you. 4Now that the Lord your God has given them rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan. 5But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
6Then Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their homes. 7(To the half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given land in Bashan, and to the other half of the tribe Joshua gave land on the west side of the Jordan along with their fellow Israelites.) When Joshua sent them home, he blessed them, 8saying, “Return to your homes with your great wealth—with large herds of livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and a great quantity of clothing—and divide the plunder from your enemies with your fellow Israelites.”
9So the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the Israelites at Shiloh in Canaan to return to Gilead, their own land, which they had acquired in accordance with the command of the Lord through Moses.
10When they came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan, the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh built an imposing altar there by the Jordan. 11And when the Israelites heard that they had built the altar on the border of Canaan at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side, 12the whole assembly of Israel gathered at Shiloh to go to war against them.
13So the Israelites sent Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead—to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh. 14With him they sent ten of the chief men, one from each of the tribes of Israel, each the head of a family division among the Israelite clans.
15When they went to Gilead—to Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh—they said to them: 16“The whole assembly of the Lord says: ‘How could you break faith with the God of Israel like this? How could you turn away from the Lord and build yourselves an altar in rebellion against him now? 17Was not the sin of Peor enough for us? Up to this very day we have not cleansed ourselves from that sin, even though a plague fell on the community of the Lord! 18And are you now turning away from the Lord?
“ ‘If you rebel against the Lord today, tomorrow he will be angry with the whole community of Israel. 19If the land you possess is defiled, come over to the Lord’s land, where the Lord’s tabernacle stands, and share the land with us. But do not rebel against the Lord or against us by building an altar for yourselves, other than the altar of the Lord our God. 20When Achan son of Zerah was unfaithful in regard to the devoted things,22:20 The Hebrew term refers to the irrevocable giving over of things or persons to the Lord, often by totally destroying them. did not wrath come on the whole community of Israel? He was not the only one who died for his sin.’ ”
21Then Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the heads of the clans of Israel: 22“The Mighty One, God, the Lord! The Mighty One, God, the Lord! He knows! And let Israel know! If this has been in rebellion or disobedience to the Lord, do not spare us this day. 23If we have built our own altar to turn away from the Lord and to offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, or to sacrifice fellowship offerings on it, may the Lord himself call us to account.
24“No! We did it for fear that some day your descendants might say to ours, ‘What do you have to do with the Lord, the God of Israel? 25The Lord has made the Jordan a boundary between us and you—you Reubenites and Gadites! You have no share in the Lord.’ So your descendants might cause ours to stop fearing the Lord.
26“That is why we said, ‘Let us get ready and build an altar—but not for burnt offerings or sacrifices.’ 27On the contrary, it is to be a witness between us and you and the generations that follow, that we will worship the Lord at his sanctuary with our burnt offerings, sacrifices and fellowship offerings. Then in the future your descendants will not be able to say to ours, ‘You have no share in the Lord.’
28“And we said, ‘If they ever say this to us, or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the replica of the Lord’s altar, which our ancestors built, not for burnt offerings and sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’
29“Far be it from us to rebel against the Lord and turn away from him today by building an altar for burnt offerings, grain offerings and sacrifices, other than the altar of the Lord our God that stands before his tabernacle.”
30When Phinehas the priest and the leaders of the community—the heads of the clans of the Israelites—heard what Reuben, Gad and Manasseh had to say, they were pleased. 31And Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, said to Reuben, Gad and Manasseh, “Today we know that the Lord is with us, because you have not been unfaithful to the Lord in this matter. Now you have rescued the Israelites from the Lord’s hand.”
32Then Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, and the leaders returned to Canaan from their meeting with the Reubenites and Gadites in Gilead and reported to the Israelites. 33They were glad to hear the report and praised God. And they talked no more about going to war against them to devastate the country where the Reubenites and the Gadites lived.
34And the Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar this name: A Witness Between Us—that the Lord is God.
