Exhortaciones finales
1Seguid amándoos unos a otros fraternalmente. 2No os olvidéis de practicar la hospitalidad, pues gracias a ella algunos, sin saberlo, hospedaron ángeles. 3Acordaos de los presos, como si vosotros fuerais sus compañeros de cárcel, y también de los que son maltratados, como si fuerais vosotros mismos los que sufrís.
4Tened todos en alta estima el matrimonio y la fidelidad conyugal, porque Dios juzgará a los adúlteros y a todos los que cometen inmoralidades sexuales. 5Manteneos libres del amor al dinero, y contentaos con lo que tenéis, porque Dios ha dicho:
«Nunca te dejaré;
jamás te abandonaré».13:5 Dt 31:6
6Así que podemos decir con toda confianza:
«El Señor es quien me ayuda; no temeré.
¿Qué me puede hacer un simple mortal?»13:6 Sal 118:6,7
7Acordaos de vuestros dirigentes, que os comunicaron la palabra de Dios. Considerad cuál fue el resultado de su estilo de vida, e imitad su fe. 8Jesucristo es el mismo ayer y hoy y por los siglos.
9No os dejéis llevar por ninguna clase de enseñanzas extrañas. Conviene que el corazón sea fortalecido por la gracia, y no por alimentos rituales que de nada aprovechan a quienes los comen.
10Nosotros tenemos un altar del cual no tienen derecho a comer los que ofician en el tabernáculo. 11Porque el sumo sacerdote introduce la sangre de los animales en el Lugar Santísimo como sacrificio por el pecado, pero los cuerpos de esos animales se queman fuera del campamento. 12Por eso también Jesús, para santificar al pueblo mediante su propia sangre, sufrió fuera de la puerta de la ciudad. 13Por lo tanto, salgamos a su encuentro fuera del campamento, llevando la deshonra que él llevó, 14pues aquí no tenemos una ciudad permanente, sino que buscamos la ciudad venidera.
15Así que ofrezcamos continuamente a Dios, por medio de Jesucristo, un sacrificio de alabanza, es decir, el fruto de los labios que confiesan su nombre. 16No os olvidéis de hacer el bien y de compartir con otros lo que tenéis, porque esos son los sacrificios que agradan a Dios.
17Obedeced a vuestros dirigentes y someteos a ellos, pues cuidan de vosotros como quienes tienen que rendir cuentas. Obedecedlos a fin de que ellos cumplan su tarea con alegría y sin quejarse, pues el quejarse no les trae ningún provecho.
18Orad por nosotros, porque estamos seguros de tener la conciencia tranquila y queremos portarnos honradamente en todo. 19Os ruego encarecidamente que oréis para que cuanto antes se me permita estar de nuevo con vosotros.
20El Dios que da la paz levantó de entre los muertos al gran Pastor de las ovejas, a nuestro Señor Jesús, por la sangre del pacto eterno. 21Que él los capacite en todo lo bueno para hacer su voluntad. Y que, por medio de Jesucristo, Dios cumpla en nosotros lo que le agrada. A él sea la gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
22Hermanos, os ruego que recibáis bien estas palabras de exhortación, ya que os he escrito brevemente.
23Quiero que sepáis que nuestro hermano Timoteo ha sido puesto en libertad. Si llega pronto, iré con él a veros.
24Saludad a todos vuestros dirigentes y a todos los santos. Los de Italia os mandan saludos.
25Que la gracia sea con todos vosotros.
Concluding exhortations
1Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. 3Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are ill-treated as if you yourselves were suffering.
4Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
‘Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.’13:5 Deut. 31:6
6So we say with confidence,
‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?’13:6 Psalm 118:6,7
7Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.
9Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so. 10We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.
11The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.
15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. 16And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
17Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
18Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honourably in every way. 19I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.
Benediction and final greetings
20Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
22Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.
23I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you.
24Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people.
