1Царь Давуд состарился и достиг преклонных лет. Его покрывали одеждами, но он всё равно не мог согреться. 2Тогда слуги сказали ему:
– Пусть господину нашему царю подыщут молодую девушку, чтобы она прислуживала царю и заботилась о нём. Она будет ложиться рядом с тобой, и господину нашему царю будет тепло.
3Они стали искать красивую девушку по всему Исраилу, нашли шунемитянку Авишаг и привели её к царю. 4Девушка была очень красива, она заботилась о царе и ухаживала за ним, но царь не имел с ней близости.
Адония претендует на престол
5Адония, сын Давуда от Хаггиты, кичливо говорил:
– Я буду царём.
Он завёл у себя колесницы и коней1:5 Или: «колесничих»; или: «всадников»., и пятьдесят слуг, которые бежали перед ним. 6(А его отец никогда не задавал ему вопроса: «Почему ты так поступаешь?» Адония родился после Авессалома и был очень красив.)
7Адония сговорился с Иоавом, сыном Церуи, и со священнослужителем Авиатаром, и они поддержали его. 8Но священнослужитель Цадок, Беная, сын Иодая, пророк Нафан, Шимей, Рей и личная стража Давуда не встали на сторону Адонии.
9Адония принёс в жертву овец, волов и откормленных телят у камня Зохелет, что рядом с Ен-Рогелом, и пригласил всех своих братьев, сыновей царя, и всех царских приближённых из Иудеи, 10но не пригласил ни пророка Нафана, ни Бенаю, ни личную стражу Давуда, ни своего брата Сулеймана.
Давуд передаёт престол Сулейману
11Тогда пророк Нафан спросил у Вирсавии, матери Сулеймана:
– Разве ты не слышала, что Адония, сын Хаггиты, стал царём, а наш господин Давуд о том и не знает? 12Так вот, позволь мне посоветовать тебе, как спасти свою жизнь и жизнь твоего сына Сулеймана. 13Сейчас же пойди к царю Давуду и скажи ему: «Господин мой царь, разве ты не клялся мне, твоей рабыне, говоря: „Твой сын Сулейман непременно будет царём после меня и сядет на моём престоле“? Так почему же царём стал Адония?» 14Когда ты ещё будешь говорить с царём, я войду вслед за тобой и подтвержу твои слова.
15И Вирсавия пошла к престарелому царю в его комнату, где ему прислуживала шунемитянка Авишаг. 16Вирсавия склонилась и поклонилась царю.
– Чего ты хочешь? – спросил царь.
17Она сказала ему:
– Мой господин, ты сам клялся мне, твоей рабыне, Вечным1:17 Вечный – на языке оригинала: «Яхве». Под этим именем Всевышний открылся Мусе и народу Исраила (см. Исх. 3:13-15). См. пояснительный словарь., твоим Богом: «Сулейман, твой сын, будет царём после меня и сядет на моём престоле». 18Но вот царём стал Адония, а ты, господин мой царь, и не знаешь об этом. 19Он принёс в жертву множество волов, откормленных телят и овец, пригласил всех царских сыновей, священнослужителя Авиатара и военачальника Иоава, но не пригласил твоего раба Сулеймана. 20Господин мой царь, взоры всего Исраила устремлены на тебя, чтобы ты объявил им, кто сядет на престоле господина моего царя после тебя. 21Ведь иначе, как только господин мой царь упокоится со своими предками, меня и моего сына Сулеймана сочтут изменниками.
22Когда она ещё говорила с царём, вошёл пророк Нафан. 23Царю доложили:
– Пришёл пророк Нафан.
Тогда Нафан предстал перед царём и поклонился ему лицом до земли.
24Он сказал:
– Говорил ли ты, господин мой царь, что Адония будет царём после тебя и сядет на твоём престоле? 25Сегодня он пошёл и принёс в жертву множество волов, откормленных телят и овец. Он пригласил всех царских сыновей, военачальников и священнослужителя Авиатара. Сейчас они едят и пьют с ним и говорят: «Да здравствует царь Адония!» 26Но меня, твоего раба, священнослужителя Цадока, Бенаю, сына Иодая, и твоего раба Сулеймана он не пригласил. 27Было ли это сделано по воле господина моего царя, который не известил своих рабов о том, кто сядет на престоле моего господина царя после него?
28Тогда царь Давуд сказал:
– Позовите ко мне Вирсавию.
Она вошла к царю и предстала перед ним.
29И царь поклялся:
– Верно, как и то, что жив Вечный, Который избавил меня от всякой беды, – 30я непременно исполню сегодня то, о чём я клялся тебе Вечным, Богом Исраила: Сулейман, твой сын, станет царём после меня и сядет на моём престоле вместо меня.
31Вирсавия склонилась лицом до земли, поклонилась царю и сказала:
– Пусть господин мой царь Давуд живёт вечно!
32Давуд сказал:
– Позовите ко мне священнослужителя Цадока, пророка Нафана и Бенаю, сына Иодая.
Когда они вошли к царю, 33он сказал им:
– Возьмите с собой моих слуг, посадите моего сына Сулеймана на моего мула и доставьте его к источнику Гихон. 34Там пусть священнослужитель Цадок и пророк Нафан помажут1:34 Посредством обряда помазания человек посвящался на определённое служение. Такого помазания удостаивались пророки, цари и священнослужители. его в цари над Исраилом. Трубите в рог и восклицайте: «Да здравствует царь Сулейман!» 35Потом проводите его назад, и пусть он сядет на мой престол и правит вместо меня. Я поставил его правителем над Исраилом и Иудеей.
36Беная, сын Иодая, ответил царю:
– Аминь!1:36 Аминь – еврейское слово, которое переводится как «да, верно, воистину так» или «да будет так». Да скажет так Вечный, Бог господина моего царя! 37Как Вечный был с господином моим царём, так пусть он будет и с Сулейманом, чтобы возвеличить его престол больше, чем престол господина моего царя Давуда!
38И священнослужитель Цадок, пророк Нафан, Беная, сын Иодая, керетиты и пелетиты1:38 Керетиты и пелетиты – чужеземные наёмники, которые, возможно, были царскими телохранителями. пошли, усадили Сулеймана на мула царя Давуда и сопроводили его в Гихон. 39Священнослужитель Цадок взял из священного шатра рог с маслом и помазал Сулеймана. После этого затрубили в рога, и весь народ закричал:
– Да здравствует царь Сулейман!
40И весь народ пошёл вслед за ним, играя на свирелях и радуясь, да так, что земля сотрясалась от шума.
Сулейман щадит Адонию
41Адония и все гости, которые были с ним, услышали это в конце пира. Услышав звук рога, Иоав спросил:
– Что это за шум в городе?
42Он ещё не договорил, как пришёл Ионафан, сын священнослужителя Авиатара. Адония сказал:
– Подойди. Ты достойный человек и, конечно, несёшь добрые вести.
43– Нет, – ответил Ионафан Адонии. – Наш господин, царь Давуд, сделал царём Сулеймана. 44Царь отправил его со священнослужителем Цадоком, пророком Нафаном, Бенаей, сыном Иодая, и керетитами и пелетитами, и они усадили его на царского мула, 45а священнослужитель Цадок и пророк Нафан помазали его в цари в Гихоне. Они ушли оттуда в радости, и город пришёл в движение. Этот-то шум ты и слышишь. 46Больше того, Сулейман сел на царский престол, 47а царские приближённые пришли поздравлять господина нашего царя Давуда, говоря: «Пусть твой Бог прославит имя Сулеймана ещё больше, чем твоё, и возвеличит его престол больше твоего престола!» А царь поклонился на постели 48и сказал так: «Хвала Вечному, Богу Исраила, Который дал мне сегодня увидеть на престоле моего преемника!»
49Тут все гости Адонии, задрожав от страха, поднялись и разбежались. 50А Адония, боясь Сулеймана, пошёл и схватился за рога жертвенника в священном шатре1:50 Человек, которому грозит смерть, мог просить о пощаде, взявшись за рога жертвенника, которые возвышались с каждого из его четырёх углов (см. 3 Цар. 1:50-53).. 51Сулейману доложили:
– Адония боится царя Сулеймана и не отпускает рогов жертвенника. Он говорит: «Пусть царь Сулейман даст мне сегодня клятву, что он не предаст своего раба мечу».
52Сулейман ответил:
– Если он покажет себя достойным человеком, то ни один волос с его головы не упадёт на землю, но если в нём обнаружится зло, он умрёт.
53Царь Сулейман послал людей за Адонией, и они привели его от жертвенника. Адония вошёл и поклонился царю Сулейману, и Сулейман сказал:
– Ступай домой.

11¶ Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not? 12Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon. 13Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign? 14Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.1.14 confirm: Heb. fill up
15¶ And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king. 16And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?1.16 What…: Heb. What to thee? 17And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne. 18And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not: 19And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called. 20And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. 21Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.1.21 offenders: Heb. sinners
22¶ And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in. 23And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. 24And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? 25For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king’s sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.1.25 God…: Heb. Let king Adonijah live 26But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called. 27Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
28¶ Then king David answered and said, Call me Bath-sheba. And she came into the king’s presence, and stood before the king.1.28 into…: Heb. before the king 29And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress, 30Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day. 31Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.
32¶ And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king. 33The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:1.33 mine…: Heb. which belongeth to me 34And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon. 35Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah. 36And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too. 37As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David. 38So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon. 39And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon. 40And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.1.40 pipes: or, flutes
41¶ And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar? 42And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings. 43And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king. 44And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king’s mule: 45And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard. 46And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom. 47And moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed. 48And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it. 49And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.
50¶ And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 51And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword. 52And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. 53So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
