1Валаам сказал Валаку:
– Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.
2Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и они вдвоём принесли на каждом жертвеннике по быку и барану. 3Валаам сказал Валаку:
– Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, а я отойду в сторону. Может быть, Вечный придёт, чтобы встретиться со мной. Всё, что Он мне откроет, я расскажу тебе.
И он ушёл на голую вершину.
4Всевышний явился к нему, и Валаам сказал:
– Я приготовил семь жертвенников и на каждом принёс быка и барана.
5Вечный научил Валаама, что сказать, и велел:
– Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.
6Он вернулся к нему и нашёл его стоящим возле своих всесожжений со всеми вождями Моава. 7И Валаам произнёс пророчество:
– Из Сирии привёл меня Валак,
царь Моава – от гор восточных:
«Приди, прокляни мне Якуба;
приди, обреки Исраил на погибель».
8Как мне проклясть тех,
кого Всевышний не проклял?
Как на гибель обречь тех,
кого Всевышний не обрёк?
9Я смотрю на них со скальных вершин,
я взираю на них с холмов.
Вижу народ, который живёт отдельно
и не считает себя одним из народов.
10Кто сможет сосчитать потомков Якуба
или хотя бы четвёртую часть Исраила?
Их столько, сколько пылинок на земле.
Пусть я умру смертью праведных,
и пусть будет кончина моя, как у них!
11Валак сказал Валааму:
– Что ты со мной сделал? Я привёл тебя проклясть моих врагов, а ты их благословляешь!
12Он ответил:
– Разве я не должен говорить то, что мне велит Вечный?
Второе пророчество Валаама
13Тогда Валак сказал ему:
– Пойдём со мной в то место, откуда ты сможешь их увидеть. Там ты увидишь только некоторых, не всех. Тогда прокляни их для меня оттуда.
14Он отвёл его на поле Цофим, на вершине Фасги, построил там семь жертвенников и принёс на каждом быка и барана. 15Валаам сказал Валаку:
– Стой здесь, у своих всесожжений, пока я там встречусь с Вечным.
16Вечный явился к Валааму, научил его, что сказать, и велел:
– Вернись к Валаку и передай ему это.
17Он пошёл к нему и нашёл его стоящим возле своих всесожжений с вождями Моава. Валак спросил его:
– Что сказал Вечный?
18Тогда Валаам произнёс пророчество:
– Валак, соберись и слушай;
внимай мне, сын Циппора.
19Всевышний – не человек, чтобы лгать,
и не смертный, чтобы передумывать.
Неужели скажет Он и не сделает,
пообещает и не исполнит?
20Я получил повеление благословлять;
благословляет Он – я не могу отменить.
21Не видно несчастья в Якубе,
не заметно беды в Исраиле.
С ними Вечный, их Бог,
Которого они провозгласили своим Царём.
22Из Египта их вывел Всевышний;
сила их – сила дикого быка.
23Нет колдовства на Якуба,
нет ворожбы на Исраила23:23 Или: «Нет колдовства в Якубе, нет ворожбы в Исраиле»..
Станут теперь говорить о Якубе
и об Исраиле: «Вот что Всевышний сотворил!»
24Как львица, встаёт народ,
как лев, он поднимается!
Не успокоится он, пока не пожрёт добычу
и кровью жертв не напьётся.
25Тогда Валак сказал Валааму:
– Не проклинай их и не благословляй!
26Валаам ответил:
– Разве я не говорил тебе, что должен делать всё, что скажет Вечный?
Третье пророчество Валаама
27Тогда Валак сказал Валааму:
– Пойдём, я отведу тебя в другое место. Может быть, Всевышнему будет угодно, чтобы ты проклял их оттуда.
28Валак отвёл Валаама на вершину Пеора, обращённую к пустыне23:28 Букв.: «Иешимону».. 29Валаам сказал Валаку:
– Построй мне здесь семь жертвенников и приготовь семь быков и семь баранов.
30Валак сделал, как сказал Валаам, и принёс на каждом жертвеннике быка и барана.

I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. 12And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?
13And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence.
14¶ And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.23.14 Pisgah: or, the hill 15And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the Lord yonder. 16And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. 17And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken? 18And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: 19God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 20Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. 21He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. 22God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. 23Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!23.23 against: or, in 24Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
25¶ And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. 26But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?
27¶ And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence. 28And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon. 29And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. 30And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
