L’alliance reste établie : Revenez à moi
1Au huitième mois de la deuxième année du règne de Darius1.1 En octobre-novembre 520 av. J.-C., deux mois après qu’Aggée a commencé à prophétiser (voir Ag 1.1). Sur Darius, voir Ag 1.1 et note., l’Eternel adressa la parole à Zacharie, le prophète1.1 Sur Zacharie, voir Esd 5.1 ; 6.14 ; Né 12.4, 16., fils de Barachie et petit-fils d’Iddo, en ces termes :
2L’Eternel s’est violemment irrité contre vos pères. 3Dis à ce peuple : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes : Revenez à moi, dit le Seigneur des armées célestes, et je reviendrai à vous, a dit le Seigneur des armées célestes. 4Ne faites pas comme vos ancêtres, que les prophètes d’autrefois ont exhortés en leur disant : « Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes : Abandonnez votre mauvaise conduite et renoncez à vos mauvaises actions. » Mais vos ancêtres n’ont pas écouté, ils n’ont pas prêté attention à mes paroles, l’Eternel le déclare.
5Vos ancêtres où sont-ils à présent ? Et les prophètes, sont-ils toujours en vie ? 6Or mes paroles et mes lois que j’avais ordonné à mes serviteurs les prophètes de leur transmettre, n’ont-elles pas été suivies d’effet pour vos pères ? Alors ils ont changé d’attitude et ils ont reconnu : « Oui, le Seigneur des armées célestes nous a traités comme il avait résolu de le faire, comme le méritaient notre conduite et nos actes. »

7La deuxième année du règne de Darius, au vingt-quatrième jour du onzième mois, le mois de Shebath1.7 Le 15 février 519 av. J.-C. Shebath est un nom de mois babylonien., la parole de l’Eternel fut adressée à Zacharie le prophète, fils de Barachie et petit-fils d’Iddo.
8Cette nuit j’ai vu, dans une vision, un cavalier monté sur un cheval roux. Il se tenait parmi les myrtes1.8 Arbustes qui restent toujours verts, croissant dans les régions méditerranéennes surtout dans les fonds de vallées (voir Es 41.19 ; 55.13). dans les profondeurs, et derrière lui, il y avait d’autres chevaux : des roux, des gris-verts et des blancs1.8 Pour les v. 8-11, voir Ap 6.1-8.. 9Je demandai alors : Mon seigneur, que représentent-ils ?
L’ange qui me parlait répondit : Je vais te montrer ce qu’ils représentent.
10Et l’individu qui se tenait parmi les myrtes intervint en disant : Ce sont les coursiers que l’Eternel a envoyés pour parcourir la terre.
11Alors les cavaliers s’adressèrent à l’ange de l’Eternel qui se tenait parmi les myrtes, et lui firent ce rapport : Nous venons de parcourir la terre et nous avons constaté qu’elle est toute tranquille et calme.
12Là-dessus, l’ange de l’Eternel s’exclama : Seigneur des armées célestes, voilà soixante-dix ans1.12 Voir Jr 25.11 ; 29.10. que tu es irrité contre Jérusalem et contre les villes de Juda. Jusques à quand tarderas-tu à les prendre en pitié1.12 Réminiscence en Ap 6.10. ?
13Alors l’Eternel répondit à l’ange qui me parlait par des paroles bienveillantes et des paroles de consolation.
14L’ange qui me parlait me dit : Proclame ces paroles : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes : J’éprouve pour Jérusalem et pour Sion un amour passionné. 15Et je suis saisi d’une violente indignation contre les peuples ennemis qui vivent dans la tranquillité. Car je n’étais qu’un peu irrité contre mon peuple, mais eux, ils ont accru son malheur. 16C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit l’Eternel : Je me tourne vers Jérusalem avec compassion. Mon temple y sera rebâti – le Seigneur des armées célestes le déclare – et l’on étendra le cordeau d’arpenteur sur Jérusalem.
17Proclame encore ce message : Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes : Mes villes déborderont de nouveau de prospérité, l’Eternel consolera de nouveau Sion et choisira de nouveau Jérusalem.
The Lord Wants His People to Return to Him
1A message from the Lord came to Zechariah the prophet. Zechariah was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Iddo. It was the eighth month of the second year that Darius was king of Persia. Here is what Zechariah said.
2The Lord who rules over all was very angry with your people of long ago. 3And now he says to us, “Return to me. Then I will return to you,” announces the Lord. 4“Do not be like your people of long ago. The earlier prophets gave them my message. I said, ‘Stop doing what is evil. Turn away from your sinful practices.’ But they would not listen to me. They would not pay any attention,” announces the Lord. 5“Where are those people now? And what about my prophets? Do they live forever? 6I commanded my servants the prophets what to say. I told them what I planned to do. But your people refused to obey me. So I had to punish them.
“Then they had a change of heart. They said, ‘The Lord who rules over all has punished us because of how we have lived. He was fair and right to do that. He has done to us just what he decided to do.’ ”
A Vision of a Horseman Among Some Myrtle Trees
7A message from the Lord came to Zechariah the prophet. Zechariah was the son of Berekiah. Berekiah was the son of Iddo. The message came during the second year that Darius was king. It was the 24th day of the 11th month. That’s the month of Shebat.
8I had a vision at night. I saw a man sitting on a red horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in a valley. Behind him were red, brown and white horses.
9An angel was talking with me. I asked him, “Sir, what are these?”
He answered, “I will show you what they are.”
10Then the man standing among the myrtle trees spoke. He said, “They are the messengers the Lord has sent out. He told them to go all through the earth.”
11They brought a report to the angel of the Lord. He was standing among the myrtle trees. They said to him, “We have gone all through the earth. We’ve found the whole world enjoying peace and rest.”
12Then the angel of the Lord spoke up. He said, “Lord, you rule over all. How long will you keep from showing your tender love to Jerusalem? How long will you keep it from the towns of Judah? You have been angry with them for 70 years.” 13So the Lord replied with kind and comforting words. He spoke them to the angel who talked with me.
14Then the angel said, “Announce this message. Say, ‘The Lord who rules over all says, “I am very jealous for my people in Jerusalem and Zion. 15And I am very angry with the nations that feel secure. I was only a little angry with my people. But the nations went too far and tried to wipe them out.”
16“ ‘So the Lord says, “I will return to Jerusalem. I will show its people my tender love. My temple will be rebuilt there. Workers will use a measuring line when they rebuild Jerusalem,” announces the Lord.
17“ ‘He says, “My towns will be filled with good things once more. I will comfort Zion. And I will choose Jerusalem again.” ’ ”
A Vision of Four Horns and Four Skilled Workers
18Then I looked up and saw four animal horns. 19I spoke to the angel who was talking with me. “What are these horns?” I asked.
He said, “They are the powerful nations that scattered Judah, Israel and Jerusalem.”
20Then the Lord showed me four skilled workers. 21I asked, “What are they coming to do?”
He answered, “The horns are the powerful nations that scattered the people of Judah. That made Judah helpless. But these four skilled workers have come to terrify the horns. The workers will destroy the power of those nations. Those nations had used their power to scatter Judah’s people.”
