Les premiers fruits du pays promis
1Lorsque vous serez arrivés dans le pays que l’Eternel votre Dieu vous donne comme patrimoine, lorsque vous en aurez pris possession et que vous y serez installés, 2chacun de vous prélèvera une part de tous les premiers produits du sol qu’il aura récoltés dans le pays que l’Eternel votre Dieu vous donne, il les déposera dans une corbeille et se rendra au lieu que l’Eternel votre Dieu aura choisi pour y établir sa présence26.2 Voir Ex 23.19.. 3Il ira trouver le prêtre qui sera en fonction à ce moment-là et lui dira : « Je déclare aujourd’hui devant l’Eternel ton Dieu que je suis entré dans le pays que l’Eternel avait promis par serment à nos ancêtres de nous donner. » 4Le prêtre prendra la corbeille de sa main et la déposera devant l’autel de l’Eternel votre Dieu. 5Alors tu prendras la parole et tu diras devant l’Eternel ton Dieu : « Mon ancêtre était un Araméen errant26.5 Il s’agit de Jacob : voir Gn 25.20 ; 28.1-2. Cette confession était récitée par les Juifs lors de la Pâque et le jour suivant la présentation de la première gerbe.. Il s’est rendu en Egypte et y a émigré avec une poignée d’hommes, et ils y sont devenus un grand peuple puissant et nombreux. 6Mais les Egyptiens nous ont maltraités et opprimés en nous imposant des travaux pénibles. 7Alors nous avons crié à l’Eternel le Dieu de nos ancêtres, et il a entendu nos plaintes, il a vu notre misère, notre peine et notre détresse26.7 Voir Ex 2.23-25., 8et nous a fait sortir d’Egypte en déployant sa puissance ; il a plongé les Egyptiens dans la terreur en opérant des signes miraculeux et des prodiges. 9Puis il nous a conduits jusqu’ici et nous a fait cadeau de ce pays où ruissellent le lait et le miel. 10C’est pourquoi, ô Eternel, j’apporte maintenant les premiers produits de la terre que tu m’as donnée ! » Après cela, tu déposeras la corbeille devant l’Eternel ton Dieu, et tu te prosterneras devant lui pour l’adorer. 11Ensuite, avec le lévite et l’immigré qui réside au milieu de vous, tu te réjouiras de tous les biens que l’Eternel ton Dieu t’aura accordés, à toi et à ta famille26.11 Au cours du repas accompagnant le sacrifice et auquel étaient invités le lévite (12.12 ; 14.29) et l’étranger (16.11, 14). C’est la dîme annuelle (voir chap. 12) qui constituait ce repas, les prémices étant offertes au prêtre (18.4 ; Nb 18.12)..
La dîme des trois ans
12Tous les trois ans, ce sera l’année de la dîme. Quand tu auras achevé de prélever toute la dîme sur toutes tes récoltes et que tu l’auras distribuée aux lévites, aux immigrés, aux orphelins et aux veuves, pour qu’ils aient de quoi manger à satiété là où tu habiteras26.12 Voir Dt 14.28-29., 13tu feras cette déclaration devant l’Eternel ton Dieu : « J’ai fait disparaître de chez moi tout ce qui était consacré et je l’ai distribué aux lévites, aux immigrés, aux orphelins et aux veuves, conformément aux ordres que tu m’as donnés. Je n’ai transgressé ni négligé aucun de tes commandements. 14Je n’ai mangé aucune part de cette dîme pendant que j’étais en deuil, je n’en ai rien prélevé pour un usage impur, ni rien donné pour un mort. J’ai obéi à l’Eternel mon Dieu, j’ai fait tout ce que tu m’as ordonné. 15Regarde donc du haut de ta demeure sainte, du haut du ciel et bénis ton peuple, Israël, et le pays que tu nous as donné comme tu l’avais promis par serment à nos ancêtres, un pays où ruissellent le lait et le miel. »
Conclusion : obéir à l’Eternel de tout son cœur
16Aujourd’hui, l’Eternel votre Dieu vous ordonne d’appliquer ces ordonnances et ces lois. Vous y obéirez et vous les appliquerez de tout votre cœur, de tout votre être. 17Vous avez obtenu aujourd’hui cette déclaration de la part de l’Eternel qu’il serait votre Dieu si vous suivez le chemin qu’il vous a prescrit, en obéissant à ses ordonnances, ses commandements et ses lois, et en écoutant sa parole. 18A son tour, l’Eternel vous a fait déclarer aujourd’hui que vous serez pour lui, comme il vous l’a dit, un peuple précieux26.18 Voir Ex 19.5 ; Tt 2.14 ; 1 P 2.9. et qui obéit à tous ses commandements. 19L’Eternel votre Dieu veut vous élever en gloire, en renommée et en dignité au-dessus de tous les autres peuples qu’il a créés. Il veut faire de vous un peuple saint, comme il l’a déclaré.
1And it shall be, when thou art come in unto the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and possessest it, and dwellest therein; 2That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there. 3And thou shalt go unto the priest that shall be in those days, and say unto him, I profess this day unto the LORD thy God, that I am come unto the country which the LORD sware unto our fathers for to give us. 4And the priest shall take the basket out of thine hand, and set it down before the altar of the LORD thy God. 5And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous: 6And the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondage: 7And when we cried unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression: 8And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders: 9And he hath brought us into this place, and hath given us this land, even a land that floweth with milk and honey. 10And now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou, O LORD, hast given me. And thou shalt set it before the LORD thy God, and worship before the LORD thy God: 11And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house, thou, and the Levite, and the stranger that is among you.
12¶ When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled; 13Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of mine house, and also have given them unto the Levite, and unto the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them: 14I have not eaten thereof in my mourning, neither have I taken away ought thereof for any unclean use, nor given ought thereof for the dead: but I have hearkened to the voice of the LORD my God, and have done according to all that thou hast commanded me. 15Look down from thy holy habitation, from heaven, and bless thy people Israel, and the land which thou hast given us, as thou swarest unto our fathers, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
16¶ This day the LORD thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. 17Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: 18And the LORD hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; 19And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the LORD thy God, as he hath spoken.
