Ang Pagtuon ni Daniel ug sa Iyang mga Higala sa Babylon
1Sa ikatulo nga tuig sa paghari ni Jehoiakim sa Juda, gisulong ni Nebucadnezar nga hari sa Babylon ug sa iyang mga sundalo ang Jerusalem. 2Gibihag niya si Haring Jehoiakim sumala sa kabubut-on sa Ginoo. Gipanguha usab niya ang ubang mga butang sa templo sa Dios ug gidala sa Babylon.1:2 Babylon: sa Hebreo, Shinar. Mao kini ang usa pa ka ngalan sa Babylon. Unya gibutang niya kini sa butanganan sa mga bahandi didto sa templo sa iyang dios.
3Unya, gisugo ni Nebucadnezar si Ashpenaz nga pangulo sa iyang mga opisyal nga magpili ug pipila ka mga batan-on gikan sa mga bihag nga Israelinhon nga naggikan sa harianon ug dungganong mga pamilya. 4Kinahanglan gayod nga mga guwapo sila, himsog, maalam, may abilidad, hait ug salabotan, aron takos sila nga moalagad sa hari. Gisugo usab niya si Ashpenaz nga tudloan sila sa pinulongan ug balasahon sa mga taga-Babylon.1:4 Babylon: sa Hebreo, Kaldeanhon. Mao kini usahay ang itawag sa mga taga-Babylon. 5Nagsugo pa gayod ang hari nga hatagan sila matag adlaw sa samang pagkaon ug ilimnon nga ginakaon ug ginainom sa hari. Human sa tulo ka tuig nga pagbansay, mangalagad na sila kaniya.
6Uban sa mga napili mao sila si Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, ug Azaria nga pulos naggikan sa tribo ni Juda. 7Gihatagan sila ni Ashpenaz ug bag-ong mga ngalan. Si Daniel ginganlag Belteshazar, si Hananiah ginganlag Shadrach, si Mishael ginganlag Meshach, ug si Azaria ginganlag Abednego.
8Apan hugot nga nagdesisyon si Daniel nga dili niya hugawan1:8 hugawan: may mga pagkaon sa hari nga gidili sa mga Judio sumala sa ilang panulondon. ang iyang kaugalingon pinaagi sa pagkaon o ilimnon sa hari. 11Busa miingon si Daniel sa tinugyanan ni Ashpenaz nga tig-atiman kanila, 12“Sulayi nga utan ug tubig lang ang inyong ipakaon ug ipainom kanamo sulod sa napulo ka adlaw. 13Unya ikompara kami sa uban nga mga batan-on nga nagakaon sa pagkaon sa hari. Basi sa imo unyang makita nga resulta, ikaw na ang mahibalong modesisyon kon unsa ang imong gustong buhaton kanamo.” 14Misugot ang tinugyanan ug gisulayan sila sulod sa napulo ka adlaw.
15Human sa napulo ka adlaw, nakita nga mas maayo ug himsog ang ilang panglawas kon ikompara sa mga batan-on nga nangaon sa pagkaon sa hari. 16Busa wala na sila hatagi sa tinugyanan sa pagkaon ug ilimnon nga gipahatag sa hari kanila. Utan na lang ang gipakaon kanila.
17Gihatagan sa Dios kining upat ka mga batan-on ug kaalam ug pagsabot labi na gayod sa nagkalain-lain nga mga balasahon ug mga pagtulon-an. Ug dugang niini, gihatagan pa gayod niya si Daniel ug kaalam sa paghubad sa mga panan-awon ug mga damgo.
18Pagkahuman sa tulo ka tuig nga pagbansay kanila sumala sa giingon sa Haring Nebucadnezar, gidala sila ni Ashpenaz ngadto kaniya. 19Nakigsulti ang hari kanila, ug nakita sa hari nga sa tanang mga batan-on walay sama kang Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, ug Azaria. Busa sila ang gipili nga mag-alagad kaniya. 20Ug sa mga pangutana nga nagkinahanglan ug kaalam ug pagsabot, nakita sa hari nga mas maalamon sila ug napulo ka pilo kay sa mga madyikero o espiritista sa tibuok niya nga gingharian. 21Nagpadayon sa pag-alagad si Daniel kang Nebucadnezar hangtod sa unang tuig sa paghari ni Cyrus.1:21 Cyrus: hari sa Persia nga miilog sa Babylon.
1In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. 2And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
3¶ And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; 4Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans. 5And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.1.5 the wine…: Heb. the wine of his drink 6Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: 7Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abed-nego.
8¶ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. 9Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. 10And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.1.10 worse…: Heb. sadder1.10 sort: or, term, or, continuance? 11Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,1.11 Melzar: or, the steward 12Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.1.12 pulse: Heb. of pulse1.12 to eat…: Heb. that we may eat, etc 13Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. 14So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days. 15And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat. 16Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
17¶ As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.1.17 Daniel…: or, he made Daniel understand 18Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. 20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.1.20 wisdom…: Heb. wisdom of understanding 21And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
