Gilutos ni Saulo ang mga Tumutuo
Sukad niadto, nagsugod ang dakong paglutos ngadto sa mga magtutuo sa Jerusalem. Busa nagkatibulaag sila sa tibuok nga probinsya sa Judea ug Samaria. Ang mga apostoles lamang ang wala mamahawa sa Jerusalem. Si Saulo nga miuyon sa pagpatay kang Esteban 3nagtinguha gayod nga mawala ang mga magtutuo kang Cristo. Busa gibalay-balay niya sila ug adto ug gidala ngadto sa prisohan, lalaki man o babaye.
Gisangyaw ang Maayong Balita sa Samaria
4Nagkatibulaag ang mga magtutuo ug gisangyaw nila ang Maayong Balita. 5Usa sa mga magtutuo mao si Felipe. Miadto siya sa usa ka siyudad sa Samaria ug nagwali mahitungod kang Cristo. 6Sa pagkadungog sa mga tawo sa gisulti ni Felipe ug sa pagkakita nila sa mga milagro nga iyang gihimo, naminaw gayod sila. 7Daghang mga tawo nga gisudlan ug mga daotang espiritu ang giayo niya. Misinggit sa makusog nga tingog ang mga daotang espiritu samtang nanggawas sila sa mga tawo. Daghan usab ang mga paralitiko ug mga bakol nga nangaayo. 8Busa nalipay kaayo ang mga tawo niadto nga siyudad.
9May tawo usab didto nga ginganlag Simon. Dugay na siya nga gikatingad-an sa mga taga-Samaria tungod sa iyang abilidad sa madyik. Nanghinambog siya nga gamhanan siya. 10Ang tanang mga tawo sa siyudad, pobre man o dato, naminaw gayod kaniya. Miingon sila, “Kining tawhana mao ang gahom sa Dios nga gitawag, ‘Dakong Gahom.’ ” 11Dugay na niyang napatuo ang mga tawo sa iyang abilidad sa madyik. 12Apan sa dihang nagwali si Felipe kanila sa Maayong Balita mahitungod sa paghari sa Dios ug mahitungod kang Jesu-Cristo, mituo sila ug nagpabautismo, mga lalaki ug mga babaye. 13Bisan si Simon mituo usab, ug sa dihang nabautismohan na siya nagauban-uban siya kang Felipe. Nahibulong gayod siya sa mga kahibulongang butang ug mga milagro nga gihimo ni Felipe.
14Sa pagkadungog sa mga apostoles didto sa Jerusalem nga ang mga taga-Samaria mituo usab sa pulong sa Dios, gipadala nila didto si Pedro ug si Juan. 15Pag-abot nila sa Samaria nagaampo sila alang sa mga magtutuo didto nga unta madawat nila ang Espiritu Santo. 16Tungod kay bisan nabautismohan na sila sa ngalan ni Ginoong Jesus, wala pa gayod mokunsad diha kanila ang Espiritu Santo. 17Gipandong nila ni Pedro ug Juan ang ilang mga kamot kanila, ug diha-diha nadawat nila ang Espiritu Santo. 18Nakita ni Simon nga sa pagpatong sa mga apostoles sa ilang mga kamot sa mga magtutuo nadawat nila ang Espiritu Santo. Busa gitanyagan niya ug kuwarta si Pedro ug si Juan ug giingnan sila, 19“Hatagi usab ninyo ako nianang maong gahom, aron nga si bisan kinsa nga akong pandongan sa akong mga kamot makadawat usab sa Espiritu Santo.” 20Apan mitubag si Pedro kaniya, “Hinaut nga malaglag ka uban sa imong kuwarta! Tungod kay naghunahuna ka nga mapalit mog kuwarta ang gasa sa Dios! 21Wala kay labot o bahin sa mga gipahimo kanamo sa Dios tungod kay ang imong kasing-kasing dili matarong sa iyang atubangan. 22Busa hinulsoli ang imong daotang tinguha ug pag-ampo sa Ginoo nga pasayloon ka sa imong daotang hunahuna. 23Tungod kay nakita ko nga masinahon ka kaayo ug ginapos sa imong mga sala.” 24Miingon si Simon kang Pedro ug kang Juan, “Kon mahimo iampo usab ako ninyo sa Ginoo aron dili mahitabo kanako ang silot nga inyong gi-ingon.”
25Human sila nagpamatuod ug nagwali sa mensahe sa Ginoo, namalik sila sa Jerusalem. Ug nagwali usab sila sa Maayong Balita sa mga baryo nga ilang na-agian sa probinsya sa Samaria.
Si Felipe ug ang Opisyal nga Taga-Etiopia
26Unya may anghel sa Ginoo nga nakigsulti kang Felipe, “Karon dayon adto sa habagatang dapit, ug subaya lang ang dalan nga gikan sa Jerusalem padulong sa Gaza.” (Kining dalana talagsa na lang agian.) 27Busa milakaw si Felipe ug didto nakita niya ang tawo nga taga-Etiopia. Nagapauli na siya gikan sa Jerusalem diin siya misimba sa Dios. Taas ang iyang katungdanan tungod kay siya ang tinugyanan sa katigayonan sa Candace. (Ang Candace mao ang Titulo sa Rayna sa Etiopia.) 28Nagasakay siya sa iyang karwahe ug nagabasa sa libro ni Propeta Isaias. 29Miingon ang Espiritu Santo kang Felipe, “Apasa ug abayi ang iyang karwahe.” 30Busa midagan si Felipe ug naabtan niya ang karwahe, ug nadunggan niya nga nagabasa ang opisyal sa libro ni Propeta Isaias. Gipangutana siya ni Felipe kon nasabtan ba niya ang iyang gibasa. 31Mitubag ang opisyal, “Wala gayod! Ug unsaon ko man pagkasabot kon walay mopasabot kanako?” Ug gisultihan niya si Felipe nga mosakay sa iyang karwahe ug motapad kaniya. 32Mao kini ang bahin sa Kasulatan nga iyang gibasa:
“Wala gayod siya moreklamo.
Sama siya sa karnero nga gidala sa ihawanan aron patyon,
O sama sa karnero nga wala gayod motingog samtang giguntingan.
33Gipakaulawan siya ug dili matarong ang pagsentensya kaniya.
Walay makasaysay mahitungod sa iyang kaliwatan tungod kay ang iyang kinabuhi dinhi sa yuta gikuha na man.”8:33 Tan-awa usab ang Isa. 53:7-8.
34Miingon ang opisyal kang Felipe, “Sultihi ako kon kinsa ang gipasabot sa propeta—ang iya bang kaugalingon o lain nga tawo?” 35Busa gikan niadtong bahina sa kasulatan, gisaysay kaniya ni Felipe ang Maayong Balita mahitungod kang Jesus. 36Samtang nagpadayon sila sa pagbiyahe miabot sila sa dapit nga may tubig. Miingon ang opisyal kang Felipe, “O, may tubig dinhi. May hinungdan pa ba nga dili ako mabautismohan?” [37Mitubag si Felipe kaniya, “Mahimo ka nang bautismohan kon kinasingkasing gayod ang imong pagtuo.” Miingon ang opisyal, “Oo, nagatuo ako nga si Jesu-Cristo mao ang anak sa Dios.”] 38Gipahunong sa opisyal ang karwahe ug milugsong silang duha sa tubig ug gibautismohan siya ni Felipe. 39Paghaw-as nila gikan sa tubig, ang Espiritu sa Ginoo kalit lang nga mikuha kang Felipe. Wala na siya makit-i sa opisyal, apan malipayon gayod ang opisyal samtang nagpadayon siya sa pagpauli. 40Sa dihang nakamatngon na si Felipe, didto na siya sa lugar sa Azotus. Nagwali siya sa Maayong Balita sa mga lungsod nga iyang giagian hangtod nakaabot siya sa Cesarea.
1And Saul had agreed with the Sanhedrin that Stephen should die.
The Church Is Treated Badly and Scattered
On that day the church in Jerusalem began to be attacked and treated badly. All except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. 2Godly Jews buried Stephen. They mourned deeply for him. 3But Saul began to destroy the church. He went from house to house. He dragged away men and women and put them in prison.
Philip Goes to Samaria
4The believers who had been scattered preached the word everywhere they went. 5Philip went down to a city in Samaria. There he preached about the Messiah. 6The crowds listened to Philip and saw the signs he did. All of them paid close attention to what he said. 7Evil spirits screamed and came out of many people. Many people who were disabled or who couldn’t walk were healed. 8So there was great joy in that city.
Simon the Evil Magician
9A man named Simon lived in the city. For quite a while he had practiced evil magic there. He amazed all the people of Samaria. He claimed to be someone great. 10And all the people listened to him, from the least important of them to the most important. They exclaimed, “It is right to call this man the Great Power of God!” 11He had amazed them for a long time with his evil magic. So they followed him. 12But Philip announced the good news of God’s kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ. So men and women believed and were baptized. 13Simon himself believed and was baptized. He followed Philip everywhere. He was amazed by the great signs and miracles he saw.
14The apostles in Jerusalem heard that people in Samaria had accepted God’s word. So they sent Peter and John to Samaria. 15When they arrived there, they prayed for the new believers. They prayed that they would receive the Holy Spirit. 16The Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them. And they received the Holy Spirit.
18Simon watched as the apostles placed their hands on them. He saw that the Spirit was given to them. So he offered money to Peter and John. 19He said, “Give me this power too. Then everyone I place my hands on will receive the Holy Spirit.”
20Peter answered, “May your money be destroyed with you! Do you think you can buy God’s gift with money? 21You have no part or share in this holy work. Your heart is not right with God. 22Turn away from this evil sin of yours. Pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23I see that you are very bitter. You are a prisoner of sin.”
24Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me. Pray that nothing you have said will happen to me.”
25Peter and John continued to preach the word of the Lord and tell people about Jesus. Then they returned to Jerusalem. On the way they preached the good news in many villages in Samaria.
Philip and the Man From Ethiopia
26An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip. “Go south to the desert road,” he said. “It’s the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27So Philip started out. On his way he met an Ethiopian official. The man had an important position in charge of all the wealth of the Kandake. Kandake means queen of Ethiopia. This official had gone to Jerusalem to worship. 28On his way home he was sitting in his chariot. He was reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29The Holy Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot. Stay near it.”
30So Philip ran up to the chariot. He heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you’re reading?” Philip asked.
31“How can I?” he said. “I need someone to explain it to me.” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32Here is the part of Scripture the official was reading. It says,
“He was led like a sheep to be killed.
Just as lambs are silent while their wool is being cut off,
he did not open his mouth.
33When he was treated badly, he was refused a fair trial.
Who can say anything about his children?
His life was cut off from the earth.” (Isaiah 53:7,8)
34The official said to Philip, “Tell me, please. Who is the prophet talking about? Himself, or someone else?” 35Then Philip began with that same part of Scripture. He told him the good news about Jesus.
36-37As they traveled along the road, they came to some water. The official said, “Look! Here is water! What can stop me from being baptized?” 38He gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the official went down into the water. Philip baptized him. 39When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away. The official did not see him again. He went on his way full of joy. 40Philip was seen next at Azotus. From there he traveled all around. He preached the good news in all the towns. Finally he arrived in Caesarea.
