Los sellos
1Vi cuando el Cordero rompió el primero de los siete sellos y oí a uno de los cuatro seres vivientes que decía con voz de trueno: «¡Ven!». 2Miré y apareció un caballo blanco. El jinete llevaba un arco; se le dio una corona y salió como vencedor, para seguir venciendo.
3Cuando el Cordero rompió el segundo sello, oí al segundo ser viviente que decía: «¡Ven!». 4En eso salió otro caballo de color rojo como el fuego. Al jinete se le entregó una gran espada; se le permitió quitar la paz de la tierra y hacer que sus habitantes se mataran unos a otros.
5Cuando el Cordero rompió el tercer sello, oí al tercero de los seres vivientes que decía: «¡Ven!». Miré y apareció un caballo negro. El jinete tenía una balanza en la mano. 6Y oí como una voz en medio de los cuatro seres vivientes que decía: «Un kilogramo de trigo o tres kilogramos de cebada por el salario de un día;6:6 por el salario de un día. Lit. por un denario. pero no dañes el aceite ni el vino».
7Cuando el Cordero rompió el cuarto sello, oí la voz del cuarto ser viviente que gritaba: «¡Ven!». 8Miré y apareció un caballo amarillento. El jinete se llamaba Muerte y el Hades6:8 Hades. Es decir los dominios de la muerte. lo seguía de cerca. Y se les otorgó poder sobre la cuarta parte de la tierra, para matar por medio de la espada, el hambre, las epidemias y las fieras de la tierra.
9Cuando el Cordero rompió el quinto sello, vi debajo del altar las almas de los que habían sufrido el martirio por causa de la palabra de Dios y por mantenerse fieles en su testimonio. 10Gritaban a gran voz: «¿Hasta cuándo, soberano Señor, santo y veraz, seguirás sin juzgar a los habitantes de la tierra y sin vengar nuestra muerte?». 11Entonces cada uno de ellos recibió ropas blancas y se les dijo que esperaran un poco más, hasta que se completara el número de sus colaboradores y hermanos que iban a sufrir el martirio como ellos.
12Vi que el Cordero rompió el sexto sello, y entonces se produjo un gran terremoto. El sol se oscureció como si se hubiera vestido de luto,6:12 se oscureció … luto. Lit. se puso negro como un saco hecho de pelo (es decir, pelo de cabra). la luna entera se tornó roja como la sangre 13y las estrellas del firmamento cayeron sobre la tierra, como caen los higos verdes de la higuera sacudida por el vendaval. 14El firmamento desapareció como cuando se enrolla un pergamino y todas las montañas y las islas fueron removidas de su lugar.
15Los reyes de la tierra, los magnates, los jefes militares, los ricos, los poderosos y todos los demás, esclavos y libres, se escondieron en las cuevas y entre las peñas de las montañas. 16Todos gritaban a las montañas y a las peñas: «¡Caigan sobre nosotros y escóndannos de la mirada del que está sentado en el trono y de la ira del Cordero! 17¡Porque ha llegado el gran día de la ira! ¿Quién podrá mantenerse en pie?».
The Seals
1I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
3When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.
5When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds6:6 Or about 1 kilogram of wheat for a day’s wages,6:6 Greek a denarius and six pounds6:6 Or about 3 kilograms of barley for a day’s wages,6:6 Greek a denarius and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
7When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
9When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,6:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 12:10; 19:10. were killed just as they had been.
12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
15Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us6:16 See Hosea 10:8. from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17For the great day of their6:17 Some manuscripts his wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”
