Gifts for building the temple
1Then King David said to the whole assembly: ‘My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. 2With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God – gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise,29:2 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain. stones of various colours, and all kinds of fine stone and marble – all of these in large quantities. 3Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple: 4three thousand talents29:4 That is, about 100 metric tons of gold (gold of Ophir) and seven thousand talents29:4 That is, about 235 metric tons of refined silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?’
6Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly. 7They gave towards the work on the temple of God five thousand talents29:7 That is, about 170 metric tons and ten thousand darics29:7 That is, about 84 kilograms of gold, ten thousand talents29:7 That is, about 340 metric tons of silver, eighteen thousand talents29:7 That is, about 610 metric tons of bronze and a hundred thousand talents29:7 That is, about 3,400 metric tons of iron. 8Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite. 9The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.
David’s prayer
10David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
‘Praise be to you, Lord,
the God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
11Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendour,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.
12Wealth and honour come from you;
you are the ruler of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
13Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
14‘But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. 15We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope. 16Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 18Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people for ever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.’
20Then David said to the whole assembly, ‘Praise the Lord your God.’ So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.
Solomon acknowledged as king
21The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the Lord that day.
Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok to be priest. 23So Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 24All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons, pledged their submission to King Solomon.
25The Lord highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendour such as no king over Israel ever had before.
The death of David
26David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 27He ruled over Israel for forty years – seven in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem. 28He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honour. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.
29As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer, 30together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.
Daruri pentru construirea Casei Domnului
1Apoi regele David a zis întregii adunări:

Răspunsul poporului la mesajul regelui
6Căpeteniile familiilor, căpeteniile semințiilor lui Israel, căpeteniile peste mii și peste sute și căpeteniile responsabile cu lucrarea regelui și‑au adus contribuția. 7Ei au dat pentru lucrarea de la Casa lui Dumnezeu: cinci mii de talanți7 Aproximativ 150 t. de aur și zece mii de darici7 Aproximativ 84 kg. de aur, zece mii de talanți7 Aproximativ 300 t. de argint, optsprezece mii de talanți7 Aproximativ 550 t. de bronz și o sută de mii de talanți7 Aproximativ 3000 t. de fier. 8Cine a avut pietre prețioase le‑a dăruit pentru vistieria Casei Domnului, de care avea grijă gherșonitul Iehiel. 9Poporul s‑a bucurat de darurile pe care le‑a făcut, căci le‑a dăruit Domnului din toată inima; de asemenea, și regele David s‑a bucurat nespus de mult.
Rugăciunea lui David
10David a binecuvântat pe Domnul înaintea ochilor întregii adunări, zicând:
„Binecuvântat să fii Tu, Doamne,
Dumnezeul părintelui nostru Israel,
pentru veci de veci!
11Ale Tale sunt, Doamne, mărirea, puterea,
măreția, supremația și maiestatea,
căci tot ce este în ceruri și pe pământ este al Tău!
A Ta, Doamne, este stăpânirea
și Tu Te înalți ca suveran peste toate!
12Bogăția și slava vin dinaintea Ta.
Tu stăpânești peste toate.
În mâna Ta este puterea și tăria;
mâna Ta poate să înalțe și să întărească pe oricine.
13Acum, Dumnezeul nostru,
noi Îți aducem mulțumiri și lăudăm mărețul Tău Nume.
14Căci ce sunt eu și ce este poporul meu, ca să putem fi în stare să‑Ți oferim aceste daruri? De la Tine le avem pe toate și ceea ce Ți‑am oferit a fost primit din mâna Ta. 15Înaintea Ta noi suntem doar niște străini și peregrini, la fel ca toți părinții noștri. Zilele noastre pe pământ sunt ca o umbră, fără speranță. 16Doamne, Dumnezeul nostru, tot acest belșug pe care l‑am strâns ca să zidim o Casă Numelui Tău cel sfânt, vine din mâna Ta și totul Îți aparține Ție. 17Dumnezeul meu, știu că Tu cercetezi inima, iar curăția Îți este plăcută. Eu am dăruit toate acestea în curăție de inimă și am privit cu bucurie la poporul Tău, care se află aici, aducându‑Ți darurile lui. 18Doamne, Dumnezeul lui Avraam, Isaac și Israel, părinții noștri, păstrează pe vecie această înclinație a gândurilor inimii poporului Tău și îndreaptă‑le inima spre Tine! 19Iar fiului meu Solomon, dă‑i o inimă dedicată în întregime, ca să păzească poruncile Tale, mărturiile Tale și hotărârile Tale, să le împlinească pe toate și să zidească Templul pentru care am făcut pregătiri.“
20Apoi David a zis întregii adunări: „Binecuvântați‑L pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru!“ Și toată adunarea a binecuvântat pe Domnul, Dumnezeul părinților lor. Ei s‑au închinat cu toții, plecându‑se înaintea Domnului și a regelui.
Solomon recunoscut drept rege
21În ziua următoare au adus jertfe Domnului și au oferit ca arderi‑de‑tot Domnului o mie de tauri, o mie de berbeci și o mie de miei, împreună cu jertfe de băutură și o mulțime de alte jertfe aduse pentru tot Israelul. 22În ziua aceea au mâncat și au băut în prezența Domnului cu mare bucurie, l‑au făcut rege a doua oară pe Solomon, fiul lui David, și l‑au uns drept conducător al Domnului22 Cu sensul de: din partea. Sau și l‑au uns înaintea Domnului drept conducător., iar pe Țadok l‑au uns ca preot. 23Solomon s‑a așezat pe tronul Domnului, ca să domnească în locul lui David, tatăl său. El a prosperat și toți cei din Israel au ascultat de el. 24Toate căpeteniile, vitejii și toți fiii regelui David, s‑au supus regelui Solomon. 25Domnul l‑a înălțat pe Solomon înaintea ochilor întregului Israel și i‑a făcut parte de o domnie mai strălucită decât a oricărui alt rege al lui Israel care a fost înainte de el.
Necrologul lui David
(1 Regi 2:10-12)
26David, fiul lui Ișai, a domnit peste tot Israelul. 27El a domnit peste Israel timp de patruzeci de ani: la Hebron a domnit timp de șapte ani, iar la Ierusalim a domnit timp de treizeci și trei de ani. 28David a murit după o bătrânețe fericită, sătul de zile, de bogăție și de glorie. În locul lui a domnit fiul său Solomon.
29Faptele regelui David, cele dintâi și cele de pe urmă, sunt scrise în „Cronicile văzătorului Samuel“, în „Cronicile profetului Natan“ și în „Cronicile văzătorului Gad“, 30împreună cu toată domnia și puterea lui și cu evenimentele care au avut loc în viața lui, în Israel și în toate regatele celorlalte țări.
