1When all this had ended, the Israelites who were there went out to the towns of Judah, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. They destroyed the high places and the altars throughout Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh. After they had destroyed all of them, the Israelites returned to their own towns and to their own property.
Contributions for Worship
2Hezekiah assigned the priests and Levites to divisions—each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites—to offer burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, to minister, to give thanks and to sing praises at the gates of the Lord’s dwelling. 3The king contributed from his own possessions for the morning and evening burnt offerings and for the burnt offerings on the Sabbaths, at the New Moons and at the appointed festivals as written in the Law of the Lord. 4He ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the Lord. 5As soon as the order went out, the Israelites generously gave the firstfruits of their grain, new wine, olive oil and honey and all that the fields produced. They brought a great amount, a tithe of everything. 6The people of Israel and Judah who lived in the towns of Judah also brought a tithe of their herds and flocks and a tithe of the holy things dedicated to the Lord their God, and they piled them in heaps. 7They began doing this in the third month and finished in the seventh month. 8When Hezekiah and his officials came and saw the heaps, they praised the Lord and blessed his people Israel.
9Hezekiah asked the priests and Levites about the heaps; 10and Azariah the chief priest, from the family of Zadok, answered, “Since the people began to bring their contributions to the temple of the Lord, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare, because the Lord has blessed his people, and this great amount is left over.”
11Hezekiah gave orders to prepare storerooms in the temple of the Lord, and this was done. 12Then they faithfully brought in the contributions, tithes and dedicated gifts. Konaniah, a Levite, was the overseer in charge of these things, and his brother Shimei was next in rank. 13Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismakiah, Mahath and Benaiah were assistants of Konaniah and Shimei his brother. All these served by appointment of King Hezekiah and Azariah the official in charge of the temple of God.
14Kore son of Imnah the Levite, keeper of the East Gate, was in charge of the freewill offerings given to God, distributing the contributions made to the Lord and also the consecrated gifts. 15Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah and Shekaniah assisted him faithfully in the towns of the priests, distributing to their fellow priests according to their divisions, old and young alike.
16In addition, they distributed to the males three years old or more whose names were in the genealogical records—all who would enter the temple of the Lord to perform the daily duties of their various tasks, according to their responsibilities and their divisions. 17And they distributed to the priests enrolled by their families in the genealogical records and likewise to the Levites twenty years old or more, according to their responsibilities and their divisions. 18They included all the little ones, the wives, and the sons and daughters of the whole community listed in these genealogical records. For they were faithful in consecrating themselves.
19As for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who lived on the farm lands around their towns or in any other towns, men were designated by name to distribute portions to every male among them and to all who were recorded in the genealogies of the Levites.
20This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah, doing what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. 21In everything that he undertook in the service of God’s temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered.
1यह सब होने के बाद वहां उपस्थित इस्राएल के सारे वंशज यहूदिया के नगरों में जा पहुंचे और वहां उन्होंने पूजा की जगह हटा दीं, पूजा के खंभे तोड़ दिए और अशेराह के खंभे भी ध्वस्त कर दिए, जो यहूदिया, बिन्यामिन, एफ्राईम और मनश्शेह प्रदेश में बनाई गई थी. उन्होंने हर एक वेदी ढाह दी, एक भी बाकी न रही. यह करके सभी इस्राएल वंशज अपने-अपने नगर, अपनी स्वयं की भूमि पर लौट गए.
आराधना के लिए भेंट
2राजा हिज़किय्याह ने पुरोहितों और लेवियों के संगठन को व्यवस्थित किया. इनके अंतर्गत हर एक के लिए ज़िम्मेदारियां तय कर दी गईं. इन ज़िम्मेदारियों में शामिल था होमबलि चढ़ाना, मेल बलि चढ़ाना, सेवा करना, याहवेह के प्रति धन्यवाद करना, याहवेह की छावनी के द्वार में उनकी स्तुति करना. 3राजा ने यह भी तय किया कि उसकी संपत्ति में से होमबलि के लिए कितना भाग दिया जाएगा यानी सुबह और शाम की होमबलि और शब्बाथ के लिए, नए चांद के लिए और निश्चित उत्सवों के लिए, जैसा याहवेह की व्यवस्था में लिखा है. 4उसने येरूशलेम वासियों को आदेश दिया कि वे पुरोहितों और लेवियों के लिए निर्धारित अंश दिया करें कि पुरोहित और लेवी याहवेह की व्यवस्था पर अपना ध्यान लगा सकें. 5जैसे ही यह आदेश दिया गया, इस्राएल के वंशज भारी मात्रा में अन्न की पहली उपज, नया अंगूर का रस, तेल, शहद और खेतों की उपज लेकर आने लगे. इसके अलावा वे बड़ी मात्रा में इन सबका दसवां अंश भी लाने लगे. 6इस्राएल और यहूदाह के वे वंशज, जो यहूदिया के नगरों में रह रहे थे, उन्होंने तो बछड़ों और भेड़ों में से भी दसवां अंश भेंट किया और याहवेह उनके परमेश्वर के लिए अलग की गई भेंटे लेकर आए इन्हें एक ढेर के रूप में वहां इकट्ठा कर दिया. 7तीसरे महीने में इनका ढेर लगाना शुरू हुआ और इसका अंत सातवें महीने में ही हो सका. 8जब हिज़किय्याह और शासकों ने आकर इन ढेरों को देखा, उन्होंने याहवेह की स्तुति की और उनकी प्रजा इस्राएल की प्रशंसा की.
9तब हिज़किय्याह ने पुरोहितों और लेवियों से इन ढेरों का कारण जानना चाहा; 10सादोक परिवार से प्रमुख पुरोहित अज़रियाह ने राजा को उत्तर दिया, “जब से याहवेह के भवन में भेंटें लाने लगे हैं, हमारे लिए भोजन की सामग्री बहुत हो गई है. यह सब बचा हुआ है क्योंकि याहवेह ने अपनी प्रजा को आशीष दी है; इतनी, कि बचे हुए भाग की यह बड़ी मात्रा रह गई है.”
11तब हिज़किय्याह ने आदेश दिया कि इसके लिए याहवेह के भवन परिसर में कुछ कमरे तैयार किए जाएं. तब कक्ष तैयार किए गए. 12प्रजा बड़ी विश्वासयोग्यता से दान, दसवां अंश और पवित्र वस्तुएं लेकर आती थी. इनका अधिकारी था लेवी केनानियाह और उसका सहायक था उसका भाई शिमेई. 13केनानियाह और उसके भाई को राजा ने चुना था. इनके अधिकार में ये अधिकारी थे येहिएल, अज़रियाह, नाहाथ, आसाहेल, येरीमोथ, योज़ाबाद, एलिएल, इसमाखियाह, माहाथ और बेनाइयाह. अज़रियाह परमेश्वर के भवन का प्रधान अधिकारी था.
14पूर्वी द्वार का द्वारपाल इमनाह का पुत्र लेवी कोरे परमेश्वर को चढ़ाई गई स्वेच्छा भेंटों का अधिकारी था, कि वह पवित्र वस्तुओं और याहवेह को दी गई भेंटों को बांटें. 15उसके सहायक थे एदेन, मिनियामिन, येशुआ, शेमायाह, अमरियाह और शेकानियाह. इन्हें काम करना होता था. पुरोहितों के नगरों में और इनका काम था अपने भाई-बंधुओं में पूरी विश्वासयोग्यता में सामान्य या विशेष में उनके दल के अनुसार उनके लिए ठहराया गया भाग बांट देना.
16इसके अलावा, वे उन पुरुषों को, जिनकी उम्र तीन साल या इससे अधिक थी, जिनके नाम वंशावली में लिखे थे, वे सभी, जो अपने विभिन्न दैनिक कार्य करने के लिए अपने दल के अंतर्गत अपनी-अपनी ज़िम्मेदारियों के अनुसार याहवेह के भवन में प्रवेश किया करते थे, उनका भाग बांट देते थे. 17पुरोहितों का नामांकन उनके कुलों के आधार पर और लेवियों का उनकी ज़िम्मेदारियों के आधार पर और उनके दलों के आधार पर उनका, जो बीस साल से अधिक उम्र के थे. 18वंशावली में सभी शामिल किए गए थे. सभी संतान, पत्नी, पुत्र एवं पुत्रियां. सारी सभा का नामांकन किया गया था क्योंकि हर एक ने अपने को पूरी सच्चाई से शुद्ध किया था.
19अहरोन के वंशज उन पुरोहितों के लिए भी, जो अपने-अपने नगरों में निवास कर रहे थे अथवा जो किसी भी नगर में निवास कर रहे थे, वे व्यक्ति नामित कर दिए गए थे, जो इन पुरोहितों को और वंशावली में शामिल लेवियों को उनके लिए निर्धारित अंश बांटा करेंगे.
20हिज़किय्याह ने संपूर्ण यहूदिया में यही प्रणाली लागू कर दी. उसने वही सब किया, जो याहवेह, उसके परमेश्वर की दृष्टि में भला, ठीक और सच्चा था. 21हर एक काम, जो उसने व्यवस्था और आदेशों के अनुसार परमेश्वर के भवन के हित में किया, जिसमें उसने परमेश्वर की इच्छा मालूम की, उसने सभी कुछ अपने पूरे मन से ही किया और हमेशा ही समृद्ध होता गया.
