Solomon Asks for Wisdom
1Solomon son of David established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with him and made him exceedingly great.
2Then Solomon spoke to all Israel—to the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, to the judges and to all the leaders in Israel, the heads of families— 3and Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at Gibeon, for God’s tent of meeting was there, which Moses the Lord’s servant had made in the wilderness. 4Now David had brought up the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to the place he had prepared for it, because he had pitched a tent for it in Jerusalem. 5But the bronze altar that Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was in Gibeon in front of the tabernacle of the Lord; so Solomon and the assembly inquired of him there. 6Solomon went up to the bronze altar before the Lord in the tent of meeting and offered a thousand burnt offerings on it.
7That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”
8Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. 9Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
11God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”
13Then Solomon went to Jerusalem from the high place at Gibeon, from before the tent of meeting. And he reigned over Israel.
14Solomon accumulated chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses,1:14 Or charioteers which he kept in the chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem. 15The king made silver and gold as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills. 16Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from Kue1:16 Probably Cilicia—the royal merchants purchased them from Kue at the current price. 17They imported a chariot from Egypt for six hundred shekels1:17 That is, about 15 pounds or about 6.9 kilograms of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty.1:17 That is, about 3 3/4 pounds or about 1.7 kilograms They also exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and of the Arameans.
دعای سلیمان برای کسب حکمت
1سلیمان، پسر داوود پادشاه بر تمام قلمرو اسرائیل مسلط شد زیرا خداوند، خدایش با او بود و به او قدرت بسیار بخشیده بود. 2-3او تمام فرماندهان سپاه، مقامات مملکتی و سایر رهبران اسرائیل را احضار کرد تا همراه او به جبعون بروند. در آنجا ایشان را به خیمهٔ ملاقات قدیمی1:2و3 موسی حدود ۵۰۰ سال قبل از سلطنت سلیمان، خیمهٔ ملاقات را بر پا داشته بود. که بهوسیلۀ موسی خدمتگزار خداوند بر پا شده بود، برد. موسی این خیمه را هنگامی ساخت که بنیاسرائیل هنوز در بیابان سرگردان بودند. 4(بعد داوود پادشاه، خیمهای دیگر در اورشلیم بر پا نمود و صندوق عهد خداوند را از قریت یعاریم به آنجا انتقال داد.) 5-6مذبح مفرغین که بِصَلئیل (پسر اوری، نوهٔ حور) ساخته بود، هنوز جلوی خیمهٔ ملاقات قرار داشت. سلیمان و کسانی که دعوت شده بودند، جلوی مذبح جمع شده، خداوند را عبادت کردند و سلیمان برای خداوند هزار قربانی سوختنی تقدیم کرد.
7آن شب خدا به سلیمان ظاهر شد و به او فرمود: «هر چه میخواهی از من درخواست کن تا به تو بدهم.»
8سلیمان به خدا گفت: «تو به پدرم داوود بسیار محبت نشان دادی و حالا هم تاج و تخت او را به من بخشیدهای. 9ای یهوه خدا، به وعدهای که به پدرم داوود دادی وفا کن، زیرا مرا بر قومی پادشاه ساختهای که چون غبارِ زمین بیشمارند. 10به من حکمت و معرفت ببخش تا بتوانم این مردم را اداره کنم، زیرا کیست که بتواند این قوم عظیم تو را اداره کند؟»
11خداوند فرمود: «حال که بزرگترین آرزوی تو این است، و تو خواهان ثروت و افتخار و طول عمر نبودی و مرگ دشمنانت را از من نخواستی، بلکه خواستی به تو حکمت و معرفت ببخشم تا قوم مرا رهبری و اداره کنی، 12پس من هم، حکمت و معرفتی را که درخواست نمودی به تو میدهم. در ضمن چنان ثروت و افتخاری به تو میبخشم که هیچ پادشاهی تا به حال آن را نداشته و بعد از این نیز نخواهد داشت.» 13بنابراین سلیمان از خیمهٔ ملاقات بالای تپهٔ جبعون به زیر آمد و به اورشلیم بازگشت تا بر قوم اسرائیل فرمانروایی کند.
ثروت و شهرت سلیمان
14سلیمان هزار و چهارصد ارابه و دوازده هزار اسب داشت که برخی را در اورشلیم و بقیه را در شهرهای دیگر نگه میداشت. 15در روزگار سلیمان، نقره و طلا در اورشلیم مثل ریگ بیابان فراوان بود! و الوارهای گرانبهای سرو، مانند چوب معمولی مصرف میشد! 16اسبهای سلیمان را از مصر و قیلیقیه میآوردند و تاجران سلیمان آنها را به قیمت معین میخریدند. 17قیمت یک ارابهٔ مصری ششصد مثقال نقره و قیمت یک اسب، صد و پنجاه مثقال نقره بود. آنها همچنین اسبهای اضافی را به پادشاهان حیتی و سوری میفروختند.
