Paul Accepted by the Apostles
1Then after fourteen years, I went up again to Jerusalem, this time with Barnabas. I took Titus along also. 2I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain. 3Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. 4This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. 5We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you.
6As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism—they added nothing to my message. 7On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised,2:7 That is, Gentiles just as Peter had been to the circumcised.2:7 That is, Jews; also in verses 8 and 9 8For God, who was at work in Peter as an apostle to the circumcised, was also at work in me as an apostle to the Gentiles. 9James, Cephas2:9 That is, Peter; also in verses 11 and 14 and John, those esteemed as pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcised. 10All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I had been eager to do all along.
Paul Opposes Cephas
11When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. 13The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.
14When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, “You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
15“We who are Jews by birth and not sinful Gentiles 16know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in2:16 Or but through the faithfulness of… justified on the basis of the faithfulness of Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.
17“But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn’t that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18If I rebuild what I destroyed, then I really would be a lawbreaker.
19“For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”2:21 Some interpreters end the quotation after verse 14.

1十四年後，我和巴拿巴又去耶路撒冷，並帶了提多同去。 2我是遵照上帝的啟示去的。我私下拜會了那些有名望的教會領袖，陳明我在外族人中間所傳的福音，免得我過去或是現在的努力都白費了。 3跟我同去的提多雖然是希臘人，也沒有人勉強他接受割禮。
4事情的緣由是因為有一些假信徒偷偷混了進來，要窺探我們在基督耶穌裡享有的自由，想叫我們做律法的奴隸。 5但為了叫福音的真理常在你們當中，我們絲毫沒有向他們妥協。
6至於那些德高望重的教會領袖，他們的地位對我來說無關緊要，因為上帝不以貌取人。他們對我所傳的並沒有增加什麼。 7相反，他們都已看到，上帝委託我向外族人傳福音，就像祂委託彼得向猶太人傳福音一樣。 8上帝感動了彼得，呼召他做猶太人的使徒，祂也同樣感動了我，呼召我做外族人的使徒。 9當時被譽為教會柱石的雅各、磯法和約翰明白了上帝賜給我的恩典之後，就與我和巴拿巴用右手行相交之禮，讓我們向外族人傳福音，他們向受割禮的人傳福音。 10他們只要求我們顧念那些貧困的人，這正是我一向熱衷的事。
保羅面責磯法
11後來，磯法到了安提阿，因他做錯了事，我就當面反對他。 12從雅各那裡來的人抵達之前，他和外族的信徒一起吃飯。但那些人抵達以後，他因為怕那些堅持行割禮的猶太人批評，就與外族的信徒分開了。 13其他猶太基督徒也跟著他裝假，甚至連巴拿巴也隨從了他們的虛偽。 14我看見他們不照福音的真理行，就當眾對磯法說：「你身為猶太人，如果行事為人像外族人，不像猶太人，又怎能強迫外族人按猶太人的規矩生活呢？」
15我們生來是猶太人，不是外族罪人， 16但我們知道人被稱為義人不是靠遵行律法，而是靠信耶穌基督。所以我們信了基督耶穌，以便因信基督被稱為義人，而不是靠遵行律法，因為無人能夠靠遵行律法被稱為義人。 17如果我們尋求在基督裡被稱為義人，結果卻仍是罪人，難道基督助長罪惡嗎？當然不是！
18倘若我重建我所拆毀的東西，就表明我是罪人。 19其實，我因無法滿足律法的要求而向律法死了，使我可以為上帝而活。 20我已經與基督一同被釘在十字架上，現在活著的不再是我，而是基督活在我裡面。我如今活在肉身中的生命是靠信上帝的兒子活著，祂愛我，為我捨命。 21我不廢棄上帝的恩典，倘若靠遵行律法可以得到義，基督的死便毫無意義了。
