Matthew 4:1-25

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted4:1 The Greek for tempted can also mean tested. by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

4Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’4:4 Deut. 8:3

5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“ ‘He will command his angels concerning you,

and they will lift you up in their hands,

so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’4:6 Psalm 91:11,12

7Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’4:7 Deut. 6:16

8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

10Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’4:10 Deut. 6:13

11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Jesus Begins to Preach

12When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. 13Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

15“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,

the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,

Galilee of the Gentiles—

16the people living in darkness

have seen a great light;

on those living in the land of the shadow of death

a light has dawned.”4:16 Isaiah 9:1,2

17From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Jesus Calls His First Disciples

18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20At once they left their nets and followed him.

21Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Jesus Heals the Sick

23Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. 24News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. 25Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis,4:25 That is, the Ten Cities Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

예수님이 시험받으심

1그러고서 예수님은 성령님의 인도로 마귀에게 시험을 받으러 광야로 나가 셨다.

2예수님은 40일 동안 금식하여 몹시 시장하셨다.

3이때 시험하는 마귀가 예수님께 와서 말하였다. “네가 하나님의 아들이라면 이 돌을 빵이 되게 하라.”

4그러나 예수님은 마귀에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “성경에는 4:4 신8:3‘사람이 빵으로만 살 것이 아니라 하나님의 모든 말씀으로 살아야 한다’ 라고 쓰여 있다.”

5그러자 마귀는 예수님을 거룩한 성으로 데려가 성전 꼭대기에 세우고 말하였다.

6“네가 하나님의 아들이라면 여기서 뛰어내려 보아라. 성경에는 4:6 시91:11, 12, 12‘하나님이 천사들에게 명령하여 손으로 너를 붙들어서 네 발이 돌에 부딪히지 않게 하실 것이다’ 라고 쓰여 있다.”

7그래서 예수님은 마귀에게 “성경에는 4:7 신6:16‘주 너의 하나님을 시험하지 말라’ 는 말씀도 기록되어 있다” 라고 대답하셨다.

8다시 마귀는 예수님을 데리고 아주 높은 산으로 올라가 세상의 모든 나라와 그 영광을 보여 주면서

9예수님께 “네가 만일 엎드려 나에게 절하면 내가 이 모든 것을 너에게 주겠다” 라고 하였다.

10그때 예수님이 말씀하셨다. “4:10 ‘대적하는 자’, ‘고소자’, ‘중상자’, ‘귀신의 왕’, ‘원수’ 등등의 여러 가지 뜻이 있다.사탄아, 썩 물러가거라. 성경에는 4:10 신6:13‘주 너의 하나님을 경배하고 그분만을 섬겨라’ 고 쓰여 있다.”

11그러자 마귀는 떠나가고 천사들이 와서 예수님께 시중들었다.

예수님의 전도 시작

12예수님은 요한이 잡혔다는 소식을 듣고 갈릴리로 돌아가셨다.

13그러나 그분은 나사렛에 계시지 않고 스불론과 납달리 지방의 바닷가에 있는 가버나움으로 가서 사셨다.

14이것은 예언자 이사야의 다음과 같은 예언을 이루기 위해서였다.

154:15 사9:1, 2, 2“스불론 땅과 납달리 땅아, 지중해 동쪽 요단강 서편의 이방 사람들이 사는 갈릴리야,

16흑암 가운데 사는 백성이 큰 빛을 보았고 죽음의 그늘진 땅에 사는 사람들에게 빛이 비치었다.”

17이때부터 예수님은 “회개하라! 하늘 나라가 가까웠다!” 하고 전도하기 시작하셨다.

네 제자를 부르심

18예수님은 갈릴리 바닷가를 거니시다가 바다에 그물을 던지고 있는 어부들을 보셨다. 그들은 베드로라는 시몬과 그의 형제 안드레였다.

19예수님이 그들에게 “나를 따라오너라. 너희를 사람 낚는 어부가 되게 하겠다” 하고 말씀하시자

20그들은 곧 그물을 버려 두고 예수님을 따랐다.

21예수님은 거기서 좀더 가시다가 다른 두 형제 야고보와 요한이 아버지 세베대와 함께 배에서 그물을 손질하는 것을 보시고 그들도 부르셨다.

22그러자 그들은 아버지를 배에 남겨 두고 즉시 예수님을 따랐다.

23예수님은 갈릴리 지방을 두루 다니시며 회당에서 가르치시고 하늘 나라의 기쁜 소식을 전하셨다. 그리고 병든 사람들과 허약한 사람들을 모두 고쳐 주셨다.

24예수님의 소문이 4:24 또는 ‘온 시리아에’시리아까지 퍼지자 사람들은 온갖 질병과 고통으로 고생하는 사람들, 귀신 들린 사람들, 간질병 환자들, 중풍병자들을 수없이 데리고 왔다. 예수님은 그들을 모두 고쳐 주셨다.

25갈릴리와 데가볼리와 예루살렘과 유대와 요단강 건너편에서 많은 사람들이 예수님을 따랐다.
