A Prophecy Against Egypt
Judgment on Pharaoh
1In the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day, the word of the Lord came to me: 2“Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt. 3Speak to him and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“ ‘I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt,
you great monster lying among your streams.
You say, “The Nile belongs to me;
I made it for myself.”
4But I will put hooks in your jaws
and make the fish of your streams stick to your scales.
I will pull you out from among your streams,
with all the fish sticking to your scales.
5I will leave you in the desert,
you and all the fish of your streams.
You will fall on the open field
and not be gathered or picked up.
I will give you as food
to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the sky.
6Then all who live in Egypt will know that I am the Lord.
“ ‘You have been a staff of reed for the people of Israel. 7When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered and you tore open their shoulders; when they leaned on you, you broke and their backs were wrenched.29:7 Syriac (see also Septuagint and Vulgate); Hebrew and you caused their backs to stand
8“ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will bring a sword against you and kill both man and beast. 9Egypt will become a desolate wasteland. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
“ ‘Because you said, “The Nile is mine; I made it,” 10therefore I am against you and against your streams, and I will make the land of Egypt a ruin and a desolate waste from Migdol to Aswan, as far as the border of Cush.29:10 That is, the upper Nile region 11The foot of neither man nor beast will pass through it; no one will live there for forty years. 12I will make the land of Egypt desolate among devastated lands, and her cities will lie desolate forty years among ruined cities. And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.
13“ ‘Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the nations where they were scattered. 14I will bring them back from captivity and return them to Upper Egypt, the land of their ancestry. There they will be a lowly kingdom. 15It will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself above the other nations. I will make it so weak that it will never again rule over the nations. 16Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence for the people of Israel but will be a reminder of their sin in turning to her for help. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.’ ”
Nebuchadnezzar’s Reward
17In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month on the first day, the word of the Lord came to me: 18“Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon drove his army in a hard campaign against Tyre; every head was rubbed bare and every shoulder made raw. Yet he and his army got no reward from the campaign he led against Tyre. 19Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth. He will loot and plunder the land as pay for his army. 20I have given him Egypt as a reward for his efforts because he and his army did it for me, declares the Sovereign Lord.
21“On that day I will make a horn29:21 Horn here symbolizes strength. grow for the Israelites, and I will open your mouth among them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

4Я продену крюк в твои челюсти,

Я тебя вытащу из твоих рек

5Я брошу тебя в пустыню —
тебя и рыбу из твоих рек.
Ты упадешь в открытом поле —
не подберут тебя, не поднимут.
Я отдам тебя в пищу
земному зверью и небесным птицам.
6Тогда все жители Египта узнают, что Я — Господь.
Ты был посохом из тростника для дома Израиля. 7Когда они брались за тебя, ты расщеплялся и ранил им плечи; когда они опирались на тебя, ты ломался, и их ноги теряли устойчивость29:7 Так в одном из древн. переводов; в евр. тексте: хранили устойчивость.».
8Поэтому так говорит Владыка Господь: «Я наведу на тебя меч и истреблю твоих жителей и их скот. 9Египет станет безлюдной пустыней. Тогда они узнают, что Я — Господь. За то, что ты сказал: „Нил — мой; это я его создал“, 10Я — твой враг и враг твоих рек. Я сделаю землю Египта мертвой пустыней от Мигдола до Сиены, до самой границы с Кушем29:10 Территория южнее Египта.. 11Не будет ступать по ней ни нога человека, ни нога животного; она будет необитаемой сорок лет. 12Я сделаю землю Египта пустыней среди опустошенных земель, и ее города будут безлюдными среди опустевших городов сорок лет. Я рассею египтян между другими народами и развею их по чужим землям».
13Ведь так говорит Владыка Господь: «По прошествии сорока лет Я соберу египтян из народов, среди которых они были рассеяны. 14Я восстановлю и возвращу их в Верхний Египет29:14 Евр. Патро́с; так же в 30:14., землю их рождения. Они будут там слабым царством, 15самым слабым из царств, и никогда впредь не возвысятся над другими народами. Я так ослаблю их, что они не смогут впредь править народами. 16Египет больше не будет опорой для дома Израиля; он будет напоминанием людям о грехе, который они совершили, обращаясь к нему за помощью. Тогда они узнают, что Я — Владыка Господь».
Завоевание Египта Вавилоном
17В двадцать седьмом году, в первый день первого месяца29:17 26 апреля 571 г. до н. э. было ко мне слово Господне:
18— Сын человеческий, Навуходоносор, царь Вавилона, заставил свое войско немало потрудиться под Тиром: все головы оплешивели, все плечи стерты; но ни он, ни его войско ничего не получили от Тира в уплату за труды. 19Поэтому так говорит Владыка Господь: Я отдам Навуходоносору, царю Вавилона, землю Египта, и он захватит ее богатства. Он оберет и разграбит ее, чтобы заплатить войску. 20Я отдаю ему Египет в награду за труды, потому что он и его войско трудились для Меня, — возвещает Владыка Господь.
21В тот день Я выращу рог29:21 В древн. ближневост. литературе рог символизировал могущество. дому Израиля и открою среди них твои уста. Тогда они узнают, что Я — Господь.
