13¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.12.13 Let…: or, The end of the matter, even all that hath been heard, is 14For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
آفرينندهٔ خود را در روزهای جوانيت به ياد آور، قبل از اينكه روزهای سخت زندگی فرا رسد روزهايی كه ديگر نتوانی از آنها لذت ببری. 1-2آفرينندهٔ خود را به ياد آور قبل از اينكه ابرهای تيره آسمان زندگی تو را فرا گيرند، و ديگر خورشيد و ماه و ستارگان در آن ندرخشند؛ 3دستهای تو كه از تو محافظت می‌كنند، بلرزند و پاهای قوی تو ضعيف گردند؛ دندانهايت كم شوند و ديگر نتوانند غذا را بجوند و چشمانت كم سو گردند و نتوانند چيزی را ببينند؛ 4گوشهايت سنگين شوند و نتوانند سر و صدای كوچه و صدای آسياب و نغمهٔ موسيقی و آواز پرندگان را بشنوند؛ 5به سختی راه روی و از هر بلندی بترسی؛ موهايت سفيد شوند، قوت تو از بين برود و اشتهايت كور شود؛ به خانهٔ جاودانی بروی و مردم در كوچه‌ها برای تو سوگواری كنند.
6بلی، آفرينندهٔ خويش را به ياد آور، قبل از آنكه رشتهٔ نقره‌ای عمرت پاره شود و جام طلا بشكند، كوزه كنار چشمه خرد شود و چرخ بر سر چاه آب متلاشی گردد، 7بدن به خاک زمين كه از آن سرشته شده برگردد و روح به سوی خداوند كه آن را عطا كرده، پرواز كند.
8«حكيم»12:8 نگاه کنيد به 1:1. می‌گويد: «بيهودگی است! بيهودگی است! همه چيز بيهودگی است!»
خاتمه
9«حكيم» آنچه را كه می‌دانست به مردم تعليم می‌داد، زيرا مرد دانايی بود. او پس از تفكر و تحقيق، مثلهای بسياری تأليف كرد. 10«حكيم» كوشش كرد با سخنان دلنشين، حقايق را صادقانه بيان كند.
11سخنان مردان حكيم مانند چوبهای تيزی هستند كه شبانان با آنها گوسفندان را هدايت می‌كنند و مثل ميخهايی هستند كه محكم به زمين كوبيده شده باشند. اين سخنان جماعت را هدايت می‌كنند، زيرا همهٔ آنها توسط يک شبان يعنی خداوند داده می‌شوند. 12ولی پسرم، از همهٔ اينها گذشته، بدان كه نوشتن كتابها تمامی ندارد و مطالعهٔ آنها بدن را خسته می‌كند.
13در خاتمه، حاصل كلام را بشنويم: انسان بايد از خداوند بترسد و احكام او را نگاه دارد، زيرا تمام وظيفهٔ او همين است. 14خدا هر عمل خوب يا بد ما را، حتی اگر در خفا نيز انجام شود، داوری خواهد كرد.
