巻物を開く小羊

1また私は、王座に座っておられる方の右手に、巻物が握られているのを見ました。その巻物には表にも裏にも文字があり、七つの封印で閉じてありました。 2一人の力ある神の天使が、大きな声で、「この巻物の封印を破り、それを開く資格のある方はどなたですか」と尋ねていました。 3しかし、天にも地にも死者の中にも、だれ一人、その巻物を開いて読むことのできる者はいませんでした。 4どこを捜しても、巻物を開くのにふさわしい人が見あたらないので、私はがっかりして泣きました。 5すると、二十四人の長老の一人が、私を慰めてくれました。「泣くのはやめなさい。ごらんなさい。ユダ族から出たライオン、ダビデの家から出た方が勝利を得たので、あの巻物を開き、七つの封印を解くことができます。」 6それから私は、二十四人の長老と王座と四つの生き物との間に、小羊が立っているのを見ました。小羊には、かつてささげられた時の傷跡がありました。この方は、七つの角と七つの目を持っていました。その目は、全世界に遣わされる神の七つの霊です。 7小羊は前に進み出て、王座に座っておられる方の右手から巻物を受け取りました。 8その時、四つの生き物と二十四人の長老は、それぞれハープと香のたちこめる金の鉢とを手にして、小羊の前にひれ伏しました。この香は、神の民の祈りです。

9彼らは新しい歌を、高らかに歌っていました。「あなたこそ、巻物を受け取って封印を解き、それを開くのにふさわしい方。あなたは殺されましたが、その血によって、あらゆる民族の中から、神のために、人々を買い取ってくださいました。 10そして、その人々を神の国に集め、神の祭司、地上の支配者とされました。」 11それからまた、私は幻によって、王座と生き物と長老たちとの回りで歌う、数えきれない天使たちの声を聞きました。 12彼らは大声で、「小羊こそ、ささげられるためにふさわしい方。殺された小羊こそ、力と、富と、知恵と、強さと、誉れと、栄光と、祝福とを受けるにふさわしい方」と歌っていました。 13それからまた、私は、天地のすべての者、地下や海中に眠る死者全員の叫び声を聞きました。「祝福と誉れと栄光と力とが、王座に座っておられる方と小羊とに、永遠にありますように。」 14すると、四つの生き物は「アーメン」と言い、二十四人の長老はひれ伏して礼拝しました。

Revelation 5:1-14

The Scroll and the Lamb

1Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

6Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits5:6 That is, the sevenfold Spirit of God sent out into all the earth. 7He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll

and to open its seals,

because you were slain,

and with your blood you purchased for God

persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.

10You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,

and they will reign5:10 Some manuscripts they reign on the earth.”

11Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength

and honor and glory and praise!”

13Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and power,

for ever and ever!”

14The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
