The Healing at the Pool
1Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. 2Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda5:2 Some manuscripts Bethzatha; other manuscripts Bethsaida and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 3Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. 45:3,4 Some manuscripts include here, wholly or in part, paralyzed—and they waited for the moving of the waters. 4 From time to time an angel of the Lord would come down and stir up the waters. The first one into the pool after each such disturbance would be cured of whatever disease they had. 5One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
8Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 9At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a Sabbath, 10and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”
11But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ ”
12So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?”
13The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
14Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” 15The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well.
The Authority of the Son
16So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. 17In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” 18For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
19Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. 20For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. 21For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. 22Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.
24“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life. 25Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. 26For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. 27And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
28“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. 30By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
Testimonies About Jesus
31“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true. 32There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true.
33“You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. 34Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved. 35John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
36“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me. 37And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, 38nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. 39You study5:39 Or 39 Study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41“I do not accept glory from human beings, 42but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts. 43I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him. 44How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God5:44 Some early manuscripts the Only One?
45“But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set. 46If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. 47But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”
耶穌在畢士大池邊治病
1這事以後，猶太人的一個節期到了，耶穌便上了耶路撒冷。 2耶路撒冷靠近羊門的地方有一個水池，希伯來話叫畢士大，池邊有五條走廊， 3裡面躺著許多瞎眼的、瘸腿的、癱瘓的等病人。 4他們都在等候主的天使偶爾來攪動池水。水動時，第一個下去的，無論患了什麼病都會痊癒。5·4 有古卷無4節。
5那裡有一個人病了三十八年。 6耶穌看他躺著，知道他病了很久，就問他：「你想痊癒嗎？」
7那人回答說：「先生，水動的時候，沒有人把我放進池子裡，我要下去的時候，別人總是先我一步。」
8耶穌對他說：「起來，拿上你的墊子走吧！」
9那人立刻痊癒了，拿起墊子開始行走。那天是安息日， 10猶太人便對那人說：「今天是安息日，你不可拿著墊子走路。」
11他說：「那位醫治我的叫我拿起墊子走。」
12他們問他：「叫你拿起墊子走的人是誰？」
13那人不知道是誰，因為那裡人多，耶穌已經躲開了。
14後來，耶穌在聖殿裡遇見他，對他說：「你已經完全好了，不要再犯罪了，免得你遭遇更不幸的事。」
15那人便去告訴猶太人，醫治他的是耶穌。 16因為耶穌在安息日給人治病，猶太人便開始迫害祂。 17耶穌對他們說：「我父至今仍在做工，我也在做工。」
18猶太人聽了，更想殺祂，因祂不但干犯安息日，還稱上帝為父，把自己看作與上帝平等。
聖子的權柄
19耶穌說：「我實實在在地告訴你們，子憑自己什麼都不能做，唯有看見父做什麼，子才做什麼。無論父做什麼，子也照樣做。 20父因為愛子，便把自己的一切作為給祂看，而且還要把比這些更大的作為給祂看，叫你們驚奇。 21父如何使死人復活並賜生命給他們，子也照樣想賜生命給誰，就賜給誰。 22父不審判人，祂將審判的事全交給子， 23叫人尊敬子如同尊敬父。不尊敬子的，就是不尊敬差子來的父。
24「我實實在在地告訴你們，誰聽從我的話，又信差我來的那位，誰就有永生，不被定罪，已經出死入生了。 25我實實在在地告訴你們，時候快到了，現在就是，死人將聽見上帝兒子的聲音，聽見的將活過來。 26因為正如父自己是生命的源頭，祂也同樣讓子作生命的源頭， 27又把審判的權柄交給祂，因為祂是人子。 28你們不要驚奇，時候將到，一切在墳墓裡的死人都要聽見上帝兒子的聲音， 29他們都要從墳墓裡出來。行善的人復活後得永生，作惡的人復活後被定罪。
見證耶穌
30「我憑自己不能做什麼，我按從父聽到的指示審判，我的審判是公平的；因為我不是按自己的旨意行，而是按差我來者的旨意行。
31「如果我為自己作見證，我的見證是無效的。 32然而，另有一位給我作見證，我知道他為我做的見證是真實的。 33你們曾派人到約翰那裡，他為真理做過見證。 34其實我並不需要人的見證，我之所以提起這些事是為了使你們得救。 35約翰是一盞點亮的明燈，你們情願在他的光中歡樂一時。 36但是我有比約翰更大的見證，因為父交待我去完成的工作，就是我現在所做的工作，證明我是父差來的。 37差我來的父曾親自為我做過見證。你們從未聽過祂的聲音，從未見過祂， 38心裡也沒有祂的道，因為你們不信祂差來的那位。 39你們研讀聖經，以為從聖經中可以得到永生。其實為我作見證的正是這聖經， 40但你們卻不肯到我這裡來得生命。
41「我不接受人給的榮耀， 42我知道你們沒有愛上帝的心。 43我奉我父的名來，你們不接受我；若有人奉自己的名來，你們卻接受他。 44你們喜歡互相恭維，卻不追求從獨一上帝來的榮耀，怎能信我呢？ 45不要以為我會在父面前控告你們，控告你們的是你們所仰賴的摩西。 46你們若信摩西，就會信我，因為他的書裡也提到我。 47你們如果連他寫的都不信，又怎麼會信我的話呢？」
