A Prophecy Against Egypt and Cush
1In the year that the supreme commander, sent by Sargon king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and attacked and captured it— 2at that time the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot.
3Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,20:3 That is, the upper Nile region; also in verse 5 4so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame. 5Those who trusted in Cush and boasted in Egypt will be dismayed and put to shame. 6In that day the people who live on this coast will say, ‘See what has happened to those we relied on, those we fled to for help and deliverance from the king of Assyria! How then can we escape?’ ”
Profecía contra Egipto y Cus
1El año en que un alto oficial enviado por Sargón, rey de Asiria, fue a Asdod, atacó esa ciudad y la conquistó. 2En aquel tiempo el Señor habló por medio de Isaías, hijo de Amoz. Le dijo: «Anda, quítate la ropa de luto y las sandalias». Así lo hizo Isaías; anduvo desnudo y descalzo.
3Entonces el Señor dijo: «Así como durante tres años mi siervo Isaías ha andado desnudo y descalzo, como señal y presagio contra Egipto y Cus; 4así también, el rey de Asiria llevará desnudos y descalzos a los egipcios y a los desterrados de Cus, los llevará desnudos de la cintura hacia abajo, tanto a jóvenes como a viejos para vergüenza de Egipto. 5Y los que confían en Cus y se enorgullecen de Egipto quedarán desanimados y avergonzados. 6En aquel día los habitantes de esta costa dirán: “Fíjense, ahí tienen a los que eran nuestra esperanza, ¡aquellos a quienes acudíamos en busca de ayuda, para que nos libraran del rey de Asiria! Y ahora, ¿cómo podremos escapar?”».
