Many people in Africa are trying to find hope in the midst of war and poverty, so they’re hungry for God’s Word. But their church leaders lack the education they need to accurately teach biblical truth.
“Spiritually, the people are God-fearing,” says Christopher, Biblica’s national coordinator in Uganda, “[but] sometimes with no depth in the Bible.” Many rural people are living on less than a dollar a day so, as Christopher explains, “Some don’t even own a Bible. They depend on the word of the leaders.”
Well-trained Christian leaders can help point these people to God’s truth—so they can stand firm in their faith and avoid confusion in the face of many false gospels, traditional African religions, ethnic conflicts, tribal wars, and the rise of Islam.
Thankfully, friends like you are helping Biblica teach the truth that’s desperately needed through our Equipping Leaders program. Together, we’re helping thousands of pastors and church leaders grow in their faith by giving them a study Bible and other biblical resources, and helping them learn to read, study, and teach God’s Word.
It’s so important we do this because the Bible says, “If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God” (1 Peter 4:11 NIV). And it’s making a dramatic difference for many like Pastor Orinde in Uganda, who says:
“Praise God for this [Equipping Leaders] meeting which has changed my thinking about how to handle Scriptures…. If we only discovered this secret as pastors, then we would be feeding God’s people on the truth and not leftovers we pick up from the TV and unbiblical books…. This week has made the Word of God come alive.”
One Equipping Leaders participant, after receiving his study Bible, shared, “For those of us without formal theological training, it is so helpful and practical. It’s like a faithful teacher that is always available—so wonderful!”
Pastor Zachariah from Gulu, a town that needs healing after experiencing violence at the hands of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), shared how his Equipping Leaders training has helped his church grow:
“Our church noticed that the way I now teach and preach the Word of God was different…. As a result, attendance at church has grown…. What we need in Gulu after the LRA war is more of God’s Word and handling it properly to change our communities.”
And another Equipping Leaders participant added:
“If all the pastors and church leaders in this region attended this training program, then they would be different in the way they preach and teach the Word of God, and this place would be different.”
Thank you for helping to equip leaders to bring God’s Word to life for many people in Africa through your support!
