Just a few years ago, in order to read God’s Word, you had to obtain a printed copy of the Bible – which in some parts of the world was impossible.
In 2007, that began to change. That’s the year YouVersion started making the Bible available in digital formats.
As of January 2016, there had been nearly 260 million downloads of the YouVersion Bible App. Today, the site has 1472 versions and 1067 languages that people can access on their phones, tablets, and computers.
Those are some big numbers. And they are about to get even bigger.
Biblica has been partnering with YouVersion since 2010, providing the New International Version and many other translations free of charge, so people can have Bibles in languages they can understand.
Since December, Biblica added five new translations to YouVersion.
The Central Kurdish (Sorani) will provide the full Bible to the Sorani Kurds for the first time in history. An estimated 35 million people, most of whom live in Kurdistan (the autonomous Kurdish homeland spread across Iraq, Iran, and Turkey), will finally have the story of God’s love and His invitation to salvation in their heart language!
Newly revised French, Japanese, and German will offer contemporary versions of God’s Word for the more than 450 million speakers of these languages.
The Arabic translation, while not technically new, will be entered into the Digital Bible Library (an online collection of quality, standardized, digital Scripture) for the first time. This will serve 230 million people in the Middle East, North Africa, and around the world.
Paul tells us in his second letter to Timothy, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Through Biblica’s partnership with YouVersion, more than 700 million people will soon have the opportunity to encounter God’s Word, be taught, corrected, and equipped to faithfully serve Him.
That’s something to celebrate!
