Tháp Ba-bên
1Lúc ấy, cả nhân loại đều nói một thứ tiếng. 2Khi đến phương đông,11:2 Nt đi từ phương Đông họ tìm thấy đồng bằng trong xứ Si-nê-a và định cư tại đó.
3Họ bảo nhau: “Chúng ta hãy làm gạch nung trong lửa, dùng nhựa11:3 Hắc in hoặc nhựa chai làm hồ, và khởi công xây cất.” 4Họ lại nói rằng: “Chúng ta hãy xây một thành phố vĩ đại, có cái tháp cao tận trời, danh tiếng chúng ta sẽ tồn tại muôn đời. Như thế, chúng ta sẽ sống đoàn tụ khỏi bị tản lạc khắp mặt đất.”
5Chúa Hằng Hữu xuống xem thành phố và ngọn tháp loài người đang xây. 6Ngài nói: “Vì chỉ là một dân tộc, nói cùng một thứ tiếng, nên họ đã bắt đầu công việc này, chẳng có gì ngăn cản được những việc họ định làm. 7Chúng Ta hãy xuống và làm xáo trộn ngôn ngữ, để họ không hiểu lời nói của nhau.”
8Chúa Hằng Hữu làm họ tản lạc khắp mặt đất, không tiếp tục xây thành phố được. 9Vì thế, thành phố đó gọi là Ba-bên (nghĩa là xáo trộn), vì Chúa Hằng Hữu đã làm xáo trộn tiếng nói cả thế giới và phân tán loài người khắp mặt đất.
Gia Phả của Sem đến Áp-ram
10Đây là dòng dõi Sem:
Hai năm sau nước lụt, Sem được 100 tuổi, sinh A-bác-sát. 11Sau khi sinh A-bác-sát, Sem còn sống thêm 500 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
12A-bác-sát được 35 tuổi, sinh Sê-lách. 13Sau khi sinh Sê-lách, A-bác-sát còn sống thêm 403 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
14Khi Sê-lách được 30 tuổi, ông sinh Hê-be. 15Sau khi sinh Hê-be, Sê-lách còn sống thêm 403 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
16Khi Hê-be được 34 tuổi, ông sinh Bê-léc. 17Sau khi sinh Bê-léc, Hê-be còn sống thêm 430 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
18Khi Bê-léc được 30 tuổi, ông sinh Rê-hu. 19Sau khi sinh Rê-hu, Bê-léc còn sống thêm 209 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
20Khi Rê-hu được 32 tuổi, ông sinh Sê-rúc. 21Sau khi sinh Sê-rúc, Rê-hu còn sống thêm 207 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
22Khi Sê-rúc được 30 tuổi, ông sinh Na-cô. 23Sau khi sinh Na-cô, Sê-rúc còn sống thêm 200 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
24Khi Na-cô được 29 tuổi, ông sinh Tha-rê. 25Sau khi sinh Tha-rê, Na-cô còn sống thêm 119 năm và sinh con trai con gái.
26Khi Tha-rê được 70 tuổi, ông sinh Áp-ram, Na-cô, và Ha-ran.
Dòng Dõi của Tha-rê
27Đây là dòng dõi Tha-rê: Tha-rê sinh Áp-ram, Na-cô, và Ha-ran. Ha-ran sinh Lót. 28Ha-ran mất sớm tại quê hương (xứ U-rơ của người Canh-đê), khi Tha-rê hãy còn sống. 29Áp-ram và Na-cô cưới vợ. Vợ Áp-ram là Sa-rai; vợ Na-cô là Minh-ca, con gái Ha-ran. Em Minh-ca là Ích-ca. 30Sa-rai son sẻ, không có con.
31Tha-rê đem con trai là Áp-ram, con dâu Sa-rai (vợ của Áp-ram), và cháu nội là Lót (con trai Ha-ran) ra khỏi U-rơ của người Canh-đê, để đến xứ Ca-na-an. Khi đến xứ Ha-ran, họ định cư. 32Tha-rê thọ 205 tuổi và qua đời tại Ha-ran.
The Tower of Babel
1The whole world had only one language, and everyone spoke it. 2They moved to the east and found a broad valley in Babylon. There they made their home.
3They said to one another, “Come on! Let’s make bricks and bake them well.” They used bricks instead of stones. They used tar to hold the bricks together. 4Then they said, “Come on! Let’s build a city for ourselves. Let’s build a tower that reaches to the sky. We’ll make a name for ourselves. Then we won’t be scattered over the whole earth.”
5But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6He said, “All these people are united and speak the same language. That is why they can do all this. Now they will be able to do anything they plan. 7Come on! Let us go down and mix up their language. Then they will not be able to understand one another.”
8So the Lord scattered them from there over the whole earth. And they stopped building the city. 9There the Lord mixed up the language of the whole world. That’s why the city was called Babel. From there the Lord scattered them over the whole earth.
The Family Line of Shem
10Here is the story of Shem’s family line.
It was two years after the flood. When Shem was 100 years old, he became the father of Arphaxad. 11After Arphaxad was born, Shem lived 500 years and had other sons and daughters.
12When Arphaxad had lived 35 years, he became the father of Shelah. 13After Shelah was born, Arphaxad lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
14When Shelah had lived 30 years, he became the father of Eber. 15After Eber was born, Shelah lived 403 years and had other sons and daughters.
16When Eber had lived 34 years, he became the father of Peleg. 17After Peleg was born, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters.
18When Peleg had lived 30 years, he became the father of Reu. 19After Reu was born, Peleg lived 209 years and had other sons and daughters.
20When Reu had lived 32 years, he became the father of Serug. 21After Serug was born, Reu lived 207 years and had other sons and daughters.
22When Serug had lived 30 years, he became the father of Nahor. 23After Nahor was born, Serug lived 200 years and had other sons and daughters.
24When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah. 25After Terah was born, Nahor lived 119 years and had other sons and daughters.
26After Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran.
The Family Line of Abram
27Here is the story of Terah’s family line.
Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. 28Haran died in the city of Ur in Babylonia, the land where he was born. Haran died while his father Terah was still alive. 29Abram and Nahor both got married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai. The name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah, the daughter of Haran. Haran was the father of Milkah and Iscah. 30But Sarai wasn’t able to have children.
31Terah left Ur in Babylon. He took with him his son Abram and his grandson Lot, the son of Haran. Terah also took his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram. All of them left together to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they made their home there.
32Terah lived for 205 years. And then he died in Harran.
