กษัตริย์เยโฮชาฟัทแห่งยูดาห์
1เยโฮชาฟัทราชโอรสของอาสาขึ้นครองราชย์ และทรงทำให้พระองค์เองแข็งแกร่งขึ้นเพื่อรบกับอิสราเอล 2เยโฮชาฟัททรงวางกำลังพลไว้ในหัวเมืองป้อมปราการทุกแห่งของยูดาห์ ในที่ต่างๆ ทั่วยูดาห์ และในหัวเมืองต่างๆ ของเอฟราอิมที่อาสาราชบิดาทรงยึดมา
3องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าสถิตกับเยโฮชาฟัท เพราะในตอนต้นรัชกาล เยโฮชาฟัททรงเจริญรอยตามดาวิดผู้เป็นบรรพบุรุษ ไม่ได้นมัสการพระบาอัล 4แต่แสวงหาพระเจ้าของบรรพบุรุษและปฏิบัติตามพระบัญชาของพระองค์ ไม่ได้ทรงทำตามอย่างชาวอิสราเอล 5องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงสถาปนาอาณาจักรที่เยโฮชาฟัททรงปกครอง ชาวยูดาห์ทั้งปวงนำสิ่งของมาถวายแด่พระองค์ พระองค์จึงทรงร่ำรวยและมีเกียรติมาก 6เยโฮชาฟัททรงปักใจแน่วแน่ในทางขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ยิ่งกว่านั้นพระองค์ทรงกำจัดสถานบูชาบนที่สูงทั้งหลายและบรรดาเสาเจ้าแม่อาเชราห์ออกจากยูดาห์ด้วย
7ในปีที่สามแห่งรัชกาลของเยโฮชาฟัท พระองค์ได้ทรงส่งบรรดาเจ้าหน้าที่ได้แก่ เบนฮายิล โอบาดีห์ เศคาริยาห์ เนธันเอล และมีคายาห์ ไปสอนในเมืองต่างๆ ของยูดาห์ 8มีคนเลวีไปด้วยได้แก่ เชไมอาห์ เนธานิยาห์ เศบาดิยาห์ อาสาเฮล เชมิราโมท เยโฮนาธัน อาโดนียาห์ โทบียาห์ และโทบอาโดนิยาห์ พร้อมกับปุโรหิตคือเอลีชามาและเยโฮรัม 9คนเหล่านี้นำหนังสือบทบัญญัติขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าไปสอนประชาชนทั่วทุกหัวเมืองของยูดาห์
10ทุกอาณาจักรรอบๆ ยูดาห์ต่างก็เกรงกลัวองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า จึงไม่มีใครกล้ามาทำสงครามกับเยโฮชาฟัท 11ชาวฟีลิสเตียบางพวกนำของถวายและเงินมาเป็นเครื่องบรรณาการแก่เยโฮชาฟัท และชาวอาหรับถวายแกะผู้ 7,700 ตัว และแพะ 7,700 ตัว
12เยโฮชาฟัทยิ่งมีอำนาจมากขึ้น พระองค์ทรงสร้างป้อมกับเมืองคลังต่างๆ ในยูดาห์ 13ทรงมีขุมกำลังใหญ่ในเมืองต่างๆ ของยูดาห์ ทั้งมีนักรบเจนศึกประจำอยู่ในกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม 14จัดกำลังพลตามครอบครัวดังนี้
จากยูดาห์มีผู้บังคับบัญชากองพันต่างๆ ได้แก่
แม่ทัพอัดนาห์คุมกำลังพล 300,000 คน
15ถัดมาคือแม่ทัพเยโฮฮานันคุมกำลังพล 280,000 คน
16ต่อมาคืออามัสยาห์บุตรศิครีเป็นอาสาสมัครรับใช้องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าคุมกำลังพล 200,000 คน
17จากเบนยามินได้แก่ เอลียาดาซึ่งเป็นนักรบกล้าคุมกำลังพล 200,000 คน ถือธนูและโล่
18ถัดมาคือเยโฮซาบาดคุมกำลังพล 180,000 คน ถืออาวุธพร้อมทำสงคราม
19คนเหล่านี้คือผู้รับใช้กษัตริย์ นอกเหนือจากที่พระองค์ให้เข้าประจำการอยู่ในเมืองป้อมปราการต่างๆ ทั่วยูดาห์
1And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel. 2And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken. 3And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;17.3 of…: or, of his father, and of David 4But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel. 5Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.17.5 brought: Heb. gave 6And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.17.6 was…: that is, was encouraged
7¶ Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah. 8And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests. 9And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10¶ And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.17.10 fell: Heb. was 11Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
12¶ And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.17.12 castles: or, palaces 13And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem. 14And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand. 15And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.17.15 next…: Heb. at his hand 16And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour. 17And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand. 18And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war. 19These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
