โซโลมอนทูลขอสติปัญญา
(1พกษ.3:4-15; 10:26-29; 2พศด.9:25-28)
1โซโลมอนโอรสของดาวิดทรงสถาปนาราชบัลลังก์ให้มั่นคงเป็นปึกแผ่น เนื่องจากพระยาห์เวห์พระเจ้าของพระองค์สถิตกับพระองค์ และทำให้พระองค์ยิ่งใหญ่กว่าผู้ใด
2โซโลมอนตรัสแก่อิสราเอลทั้งปวง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นแม่ทัพนายกอง ตุลาการ ผู้นำในอิสราเอลหรือหัวหน้าตระกูลต่างๆ 3แล้วโซโลมอนกับชุมนุมประชากรทั้งหมดขึ้นไปยังสถานบูชาบนที่สูงในกิเบโอน เพราะเต็นท์นัดพบขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าซึ่งโมเสสผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ได้สร้างขึ้นในถิ่นกันดารนั้นอยู่ที่นั่น 4ดาวิดได้อัญเชิญหีบพันธสัญญาของพระเจ้าจากเมืองคีริยาทเยอาริมมายังสถานที่ซึ่งดาวิดเตรียมไว้ เพราะทรงตั้งเต็นท์สำหรับหีบนั้นในกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม 5ส่วนแท่นทองสัมฤทธิ์ซึ่งเบซาเลลบุตรอูรีผู้เป็นบุตรของเฮอร์ได้สร้างขึ้นอยู่ในกิเบโอนตรงหน้าพลับพลาขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า โซโลมอนและชุมนุมประชากรจึงมาทูลถามพระองค์ที่นั่น 6โซโลมอนขึ้นไปยังแท่นทองสัมฤทธิ์ต่อหน้าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าในเต็นท์นัดพบ และถวายสัตว์หนึ่งพันตัวเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชา
7คืนนั้นพระเจ้าทรงปรากฏแก่โซโลมอนและตรัสกับเขาว่า “จงขอสิ่งที่เจ้าต้องการเถิด แล้วเราจะให้เจ้า”
8โซโลมอนกราบทูลพระเจ้าว่า “พระองค์ได้ทรงสำแดงพระกรุณาอย่างยิ่งต่อดาวิดราชบิดาของข้าพระองค์ และทรงตั้งข้าพระองค์เป็นกษัตริย์แทน 9บัดนี้ข้าแต่พระเจ้าพระยาห์เวห์ ขอทรงยืนยันคำมั่นสัญญาที่ทรงให้ไว้กับดาวิดราชบิดาของข้าพระองค์ เพราะทรงตั้งข้าพระองค์ขึ้นเป็นกษัตริย์เหนือชนชาติซึ่งมีจำนวนมากมายเหมือนฝุ่นธุลี 10ขอโปรดประทานสติปัญญาและความรอบรู้เพื่อข้าพระองค์จะได้นำชนชาตินี้ เพราะใครเล่าจะสามารถปกครองชนชาติอันยิ่งใหญ่ของพระองค์นี้ได้?”
11พระเจ้าตรัสกับโซโลมอนว่า “ในเมื่อเจ้ามีใจปรารถนาเช่นนี้ และเจ้าไม่ได้ขอความมั่งคั่ง ทรัพย์สมบัติ หรือเกียรติ ไม่ได้ขอเอาชีวิตศัตรู และไม่ได้ขออายุยืนยาว แต่ขอสติปัญญาและความรอบรู้ เพื่อที่จะปกครองประชากรของเรา ซึ่งเราได้ตั้งเจ้าให้เป็นกษัตริย์เหนือพวกเขา 12ฉะนั้นเราจะให้สติปัญญาและความรอบรู้ที่เจ้าขอไว้ และเราจะให้ทรัพย์สมบัติ ความมั่งคั่ง และเกียรติแก่เจ้าอย่างที่ไม่เคยมีมาก่อน และจะไม่มีกษัตริย์องค์ใดเสมอเหมือนเจ้า”
13โซโลมอนจึงเสด็จจากสถานบูชาบนที่สูงในกิเบโอน จากหน้าเต็นท์นัดพบไปยังกรุงเยรูซาเล็ม และทรงปกครองเหนืออิสราเอล
14โซโลมอนทรงสะสมรถม้าศึกและม้า พระองค์ทรงมีรถม้าศึก 1,400 คัน และม้า 12,000 ตัว1:14 หรือพลรถรบ 12,000 คน ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงเก็บบางส่วนไว้ที่หัวเมืองซึ่งใช้เก็บรถม้าศึก และบางส่วนอยู่กับพระองค์ที่กรุงเยรูซาเล็ม 15พระองค์ทรงทำให้เงินและทองในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มมีมากมายเหมือนก้อนหิน และมีไม้สนซีดาร์ดาษดื่นเหมือนต้นมะเดื่อแถบเชิงเขา 16ม้าของโซโลมอนนั้นนำเข้าจากอียิปต์1:16 หรืออาจจะเป็นมูศูร์ซึ่งเป็นเขตหนึ่งในซิลิเซีย เช่นเดียวกับข้อ 17และจากคูเอ1:16 คงจะเป็นซิลิเซีย คือพ่อค้าหลวงซื้อมาจากคูเอ 17รถม้าศึกแต่ละคันที่นำเข้าจากอียิปต์มีราคาเท่ากับเงินหนัก 600 เชเขล1:17 1 เชเขล คือเงินหนักประมาณ 11.5 กรัม มีค่าเท่ากับค่าแรงสองเดือน (ทั้งสองแห่งในข้อนี้) ม้าราคาตัวละ 150 เชเขล พวกเขายังส่งออกไปขายต่อให้กษัตริย์ทั้งปวงของชาวฮิตไทต์และของชาวอารัมด้วย
1And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly. 2Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers. 3So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness. 4But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem. 5Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.1.5 he put: or, was there 6And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD, which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.
7¶ In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.1.9 like…: Heb. much as the dust of the earth 10Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.
13¶ Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel. 14And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.1.15 made: Heb. gave 16And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.1.16 Solomon…: Heb. the going forth of the horses which was Solomon’s 17And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.1.17 means: Heb. hand
