1ทิโมธี 1:1-20

1จดหมายฉบับนี้จากข้าพเจ้าเปาโลผู้เป็นอัครทูตของพระเยซูคริสต์ตามพระบัญชาของพระเจ้าพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของเรา และของพระเยซูคริสต์ผู้ทรงเป็นความหวังของเรา

2ถึงทิโมธีลูกแท้ของข้าพเจ้าในความเชื่อ

ขอพระคุณ พระเมตตา และสันติสุขจากพระเจ้าพระบิดาและพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเรามีแก่ท่าน

คำเตือนเกี่ยวกับผู้สอนผิด

3ตามที่ข้าพเจ้าได้กำชับท่านเมื่อข้าพเจ้าไปยังแคว้นมาซิโดเนียว่าให้ท่านอยู่ที่เอเฟซัส เพื่อท่านจะได้กำชับบางคนไม่ให้สอนหลักข้อเชื่อผิดๆ อีกต่อไป 4ทั้งไม่ให้หมกมุ่นกับนิยายปรัมปราและลำดับวงศ์ตระกูลอันไม่รู้จบ ซึ่งเป็นการคาดเดาแบบส่งเดชมากกว่าจะส่งเสริมพระราชกิจของพระเจ้าซึ่งเป็นไปโดยความเชื่อ 5เป้าหมายของการกำชับนี้คือความรักอันมาจากใจบริสุทธิ์ จากจิตสำนึกที่ดีและจากความเชื่ออย่างจริงใจ 6บางคนหลงเตลิดไปจากสิ่งเหล่านี้ หันไปพูดจาไร้สาระ 7พวกเขาอยากจะเป็นครูสอนบทบัญญัติทั้งๆ ที่ไม่รู้ว่าตนเองพูดอะไรหรือยืนยันอย่างหนักแน่นถึงเรื่องอะไร

8เรารู้อยู่ว่าบทบัญญัตินั้นดีหากใช้ในทางที่ถูก 9ซึ่งหมายความว่าบทบัญญัติไม่ได้มีขึ้นเพื่อผู้ชอบธรรม แต่มีขึ้นเพื่อคนชอบแหกกฎกับคนกบฏ คนอธรรมกับคนบาป คนไม่บริสุทธิ์กับคนไม่มีศาสนา คนฆ่าพ่อกับคนฆ่าแม่ ฆาตกร 10คนสำส่อนและคนรักร่วมเพศ เพื่อคนค้าทาสกับคนโกหก และคนให้การเท็จ และเพื่อสิ่งอื่นๆ อีกสารพัดที่ขัดกับคำสอนอันมีหลัก 11ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับข่าวประเสริฐอันรุ่งโรจน์ของพระเจ้าผู้ทรงเป็นที่สรรเสริญ คือข่าวประเสริฐที่ทรงมอบหมายให้ข้าพเจ้าประกาศนี้

พระคุณของพระเจ้าต่อเปาโล

12ข้าพเจ้าขอบพระคุณพระเยซูคริสต์องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราผู้ทรงประทานกำลังแก่ข้าพเจ้า เพราะพระองค์ทรงเห็นว่าข้าพเจ้าสัตย์ซื่อจึงทรงแต่งตั้งข้าพเจ้าให้รับใช้พระองค์ 13ถึงแม้ว่าครั้งหนึ่งข้าพเจ้าเคยหมิ่นประมาทพระองค์ ข่มเหงผู้เชื่อและก่อความรุนแรง แต่พระองค์ทรงกรุณาข้าพเจ้าเพราะข้าพเจ้าได้ทำไปด้วยความไม่รู้และไม่เชื่อ 14พระคุณขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าของเราได้หลั่งลงมาแก่ข้าพเจ้าอย่างเหลือล้น พร้อมด้วยความเชื่อและความรักซึ่งอยู่ในพระเยซูคริสต์

15ข้อความนี้เป็นความจริงซึ่งสมควรแก่การยอมรับโดยไม่มีข้อกังขา คือพระเยซูคริสต์เสด็จเข้ามาในโลกเพื่อช่วยคนบาปให้รอด และในบรรดาคนบาปข้าพเจ้าเป็นตัวร้ายที่สุด 16แต่เนื่องด้วยเหตุนี้เองจึงทรงกรุณาข้าพเจ้าผู้เป็นตัวร้ายที่สุดในบรรดาคนบาป เพื่อพระเยซูคริสต์จะได้ทรงสำแดงความอดกลั้นพระทัยอันไม่จำกัดให้เป็นตัวอย่างแก่คนทั้งปวงที่จะเชื่อในพระองค์และรับชีวิตนิรันดร์ 17บัดนี้ขอพระเกียรติและพระสิริมีแด่จอมราชันองค์นิรันดร์ผู้ทรงอมตะและเราไม่อาจมองเห็นได้ ผู้ทรงเป็นพระเจ้าแต่ผู้เดียวนั้นตลอดกาลสืบๆ ไปเป็นนิตย์ อาเมน

18ทิโมธีลูกชายของข้าพเจ้า ที่ข้าพเจ้ากำชับท่านเช่นนี้ก็สอดคล้องกับคำเผยพระวจนะที่เคยมีมาเกี่ยวกับท่าน เพื่อเมื่อท่านปฏิบัติตามท่านจะได้ต่อสู้อย่างเข้มแข็ง 19จงยึดมั่นในความเชื่อและจิตสำนึกอันดี บางคนละทิ้งข้อนี้ทำให้ความเชื่อของตนอับปาง 20ในหมู่คนเหล่านี้ได้แก่ฮีเมเนอัสกับอเล็กซานเดอร์ ซึ่งข้าพเจ้ามอบไว้แก่ซาตานเพื่อเขาจะได้เรียนรู้ที่จะไม่หมิ่นประมาทพระเจ้า

1 Timothy 1:1-20

1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope,

2To Timothy my true son in the faith:

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Timothy Charged to Oppose False Teachers

3As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer 4or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. 5The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. 7They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.

8We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. 9We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, 10for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine 11that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

The Lord’s Grace to Paul

12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

15Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 17Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The Charge to Timothy Renewed

18Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, 19holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith. 20Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
