1ชนชาติทั้งปวงเอ๋ย จงฟังทางนี้
ทุกคนทั่วโลกจงฟัง
2ทั้งผู้ใหญ่และผู้น้อย
คนจนและคนรวย
3ปากของข้าพเจ้าจะกล่าวถ้อยคำแห่งสติปัญญา
เนื้อความจากใจของข้าพเจ้านี้จะให้ความเข้าใจ
4ข้าพเจ้าจะเอียงหูฟังภาษิต
ข้าพเจ้าจะใช้พิณขานไขปริศนา
5ทำไมข้าพเจ้าต้องกลัวยามตกที่นั่งลำบาก
เมื่อคนเจ้าเล่ห์ชั่วร้ายรุมล้อมข้าพเจ้า?
6คนพวกนั้นพึ่งพิงทรัพย์สมบัติ
และอวดอ้างความร่ำรวยเหลือล้นของตน
7ไม่มีสักคนไถ่ชีวิตให้ใครได้
หรือถวายค่าไถ่ชีวิตของเขาแด่พระเจ้า
8ค่าไถ่สำหรับชีวิตหนึ่งนั้นแพงนัก
ชดใช้แค่ไหนก็ไม่พอ
9เพื่อให้เขามีชีวิตอยู่ชั่วนิรันดร์
และไม่ต้องพบกับความเน่าเปื่อย
10เพราะทุกคนก็เห็นว่าคนมีปัญญาก็ตาย
คนโง่และคนสิ้นคิดก็ย่อยยับเหมือนกัน
และเขาทิ้งทรัพย์สมบัติของตนไว้ให้คนอื่น
11หลุมศพของเขาจะเป็นบ้านของเขา49:11 ภาษาฮีบรูว่าในความคิดของพวกเขา บ้านของพวกเขาจะคงอยู่ ตลอดกาล
เป็นที่อาศัยตลอดทุกชั่วอายุ
แม้พวกเขาได้ตั้งชื่อ49:11 หรือเพราะพวกเขาได้ตั้งชื่อดินแดนตามชื่อของตัว
12แต่มนุษย์ไม่ว่าจะร่ำรวยสักปานใดก็ไม่อาจมีชีวิตอยู่ได้ตลอดไป

14เขาเป็นเหมือนแกะที่ถูกกำหนดไว้สำหรับหลุมฝังศพ
และความตายจะมากัดกินเขา
ผู้เที่ยงธรรมจะปกครองเหนือพวกเขาในยามรุ่งอรุณ
ร่างของเขาจะเน่าเปื่อยในหลุมศพ
ห่างไกลจากคฤหาสน์อันโอ่อ่าของตน
15แต่พระเจ้าจะทรงไถ่ชีวิต49:15 หรือวิญญาณของข้าพเจ้าให้พ้นจากอำนาจของหลุมฝังศพ
พระองค์จะทรงรับข้าพเจ้าไว้แน่นอน

16ไม่ต้องหวั่นวิตกเมื่อใครคนหนึ่งร่ำรวยขึ้น
เมื่อบ้านของเขาโอ่อ่าตระการขึ้น
17เพราะเมื่อเขาตาย เขาเอาอะไรไปด้วยไม่ได้
ความเลิศหรูของเขาจะไม่ตามเขาลงไป
18แม้ขณะมีชีวิตอยู่เขาเรียกตัวเองว่าผู้เป็นสุข
และผู้คนยกย่องในยามที่เขารุ่งโรจน์
19เขาจะไปอยู่กับบรรพบุรุษของเขา
ผู้ซึ่งไม่เคยเห็นแสงแห่งชีวิต
20ผู้ที่มีทรัพย์สมบัติแต่ปราศจากความเข้าใจ
ก็เหมือนสัตว์เดียรัจฉานที่ต้องจบชีวิตลง

1Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:49.1 for: or, of
2Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
3My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
4I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
5Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
6They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
7None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
8(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
9That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
10For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.49.11 all…: Heb. generation and generation
12Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
